    QOTD:

Current format is good. Need to find out about the good wines as well as the bad wines. Also might get a little political if you start only tasting wines you line/enjoy have had recently.

    my two cents!

  • QOTD: Dude, does it have to be one or the other? Why not do both? Current approach totally works, but people wanna know what the Vary Gaynerchuk unit has quaffed. Yeah, do ’em both; mix it up. Hope you’re diggin’ the land of the Piazza; it’s raining and nasty here in VT, and as a soon to be married guy, I’m bummin’ about the two bottles of Sarah’s blend I have sitting in the cellar! Meh. Because Yo! is a little bit of Oy! spelled backwards. . . !

  • Neil

QOTD: If it ain’t broke why fix it? The current format works just fine otherwise it might become an ifomercial. If the show’s authenticity comes into question people will start to tune out the message.

Once in an email you sent over a show featuring a Hartwig special deal or the gift baskets. That’s okay and who doesn’t like a good pitch, but WLTV should be spontaneous and fun. If you aren’t having fun who else is going to?

That said, who picks the wines in the first place? Viewers?? Staff??? Dad???? Lizzy?????

Gary, love the way the show is now but wouldn’t be opposed to seeing you bring some pre-tasted wines in.

About today’s ep, I’m still having a little trouble with rating the sugarfied over-the-top bombs as low as you do. You say they’re delicious so are you just rating them based on your feelings towards this trend in wine or are you actually rating them based on the overall experience they give you? It’s like a guilty pleasure to drink these ‘fake’ wines. On one hand, they’re really yummy, on the other hand, you feel guilty for liking them because on some level you ‘know’ that wine isn’t ‘supposed’ to taste like these do. That guilty feeling about the fakeness is what makes me rate them low in my personal journal. I feel these wines put me between a rock and a hard place, do you suppose Parker has just decided to throw conventional thinking away and rate them high solely because they’re yummy? I’m not sure where I’m going with this, I just wanted to see if we’re on the same page.

  • Great format the way it is, but I agree with Mr. Altman; a blind tasting every now and again would be interesting. I try to blind as much as I can, as it’s really helped me to exercise my palate. My business partner and I brown bag wines and have the other try to pick out the varietal(s), country, region, etc. In your case, it would be nice if there was a way for us to interact with your blind tastings. Ah, it’s getting too complicated; you’ve got a great show the way it is. Enjoy Italy, Greece, etc.

  • Pastore

Alright, already!! I’m a lurker. Not because I don’t love the show, because it is fan-frakin-tastic, but because I work two jobs, and don’t have a ton of time. Wanted to say I’ve been watching off and on for about a year now, and this is by far the best thing that has happened to wine, ever! I bartend part-time at a country club, so I have the added bonus of being able to try a lot of different types of really quality wine.

I like the current format because your reactions are, at times, priceless! Don’t think it would be the same on wines you already have a good feel for. Keep up the good work!

I think a mix of the current style with your recommendations would work out well. Perhaps one or two shows a week, or just mix them in with wines that you haven’t tried before? (current format)

  • Good show, three of those fours I will make an attempt to try. The wife likes the sweeter stuff so I mostly marked them down for her. QOTD: No man! Keep it the way it has been. I agree with Tom and Lurker and Kevin and those guys, what you have going is good, but if you want to share some of the wines recently tested, then like that one guy said, maybe once a week, or once every two weeks. But right now, your show is good stuff.

    Greeting Mr V!

Q of the D: PLEASE, don’t change the format of your show. Let us, your loyal and attentive audience, experience the tasting with you. My personal fear is that the show would change from a wonderful educational tool and my most happily anticipated entertainment of my week to a shameless sales show. Keep the integrity, honesty, and excitement we’ve come to love!… We’ll be drinking and enjoying wines without a “hard sell”

QOTD: KEEP THE FORMAT!!!…..BUT…add some blind tastings. Also, how about a “taste along with Gary” once per month. You send out a list of wines at the beginning of the month. We go buy them and taste them while watching the episode at the end of the month. It would be a great way to compare palates.

  • mbannon

I enjoy the current format because I love it when you hit on a “surprise” whether good or bad. But, I have to admit, when you occasionally do episodes highlighting recent favorites, I tune in just as enthusiastically. I guess what I’m saying is that you’re Da Bomb no matter what you do!! Just don’t go changin. 🙂

I like the show as it is. There are plenty of recommendation sources. The surprise element best exhibited by the GV face while tasting makes the show.

QOTD: Gotta agree with a previous poster…..do both!!

  • Michael Goldfine

    Hi Gary,

I am answering the question whether I prefer you tasting wines for the first time or not. My answer is mix up and I don’t care because . . . What I want is for you to educate me and you can do that best either way. It certainly would be good to taste wines you have tasted recently or know real well in order to promote a theme whether it be an odd ball grape or a new country or malolaction. Keep up the good work.

I love the shows on value.

    Cheers,
    Michael

I agree with the comments above which suggested that it’s the spontaneity of your reactions that makes wltv interesting to watch. Good episode!

I like spontaneous reactions with the wines you haven’t had in a while and appreciate the ocassional show where you feel you have to share a particularly special wine with us…like you’re been doing all along. Enjoy yourself. We’re here to keep you happy. Really.

I love it when you get surprised, and when you review a wine that you’ve had before, unless it’s something really special that you want to share with us, I would prefer if you go with wines that you haven’t had.

I like the current format where it feels like we are discovering wines together. That being said, since I am new to wine I feel that there are many good ones out there that I am missing out on because they are too common for you to review. If I have to pick a side to the fence though, I’d say you should keep doing what you’re doing.

    GV,
Hope you are having fun on the trip. No real knockouts today, huh?
QOTD: I would prefer mostly untasted wines, but when you get some that you really like, you should share them with us, because sharing is nice!!!

Glad to see Silverado doing it right again.
QOTD= Out of the four wines, do two in the current fashion, one that you have tasted and liked, and the fourth one from the Vayniacs’ request. That will cover all angles. I like the way you are doing it right now, but sometimes, they are all sucky, and you feel like you got nothing out of the show. By doing one that you previously tasted, we will have something for sure. Doing one from the requests you get, will add that user satisfaction and will make us feel like we have a direct input into the show.

QOTD: I love the current format, but maybe you could mix it up a bit for people who’d rather have recommendations. Either do two regular, spontaneous tastings and two recommendations, or do some shows with one or the other format.

QOTD: I like the way it’s done now. However………..one show every so often where you throw out those that you REALLY, REALLY like.

Nice show Gary. QOTD: For me, I like the show the way it is. I watch the show to learn about wines, regions, styles, etc. And yes, occasionally when you go off on how incredible a wine is I’ll track it down, usually thru WL :). The show would not be as interesting to me if it was just about wines you liked and are recommending. Just my two pennies!!!
