You are the man. I saw the Rolf Binders in your New Arrival section a week or two ago and I coveted some. I waited to pull the trigger and now I’m glad I did. I’ll stick with my Shotfire Ridge, Prima Toro and Clio. Thanks for pointing me to the value!

How about a taste off 2003 vs 2004 La Fleur de Boüard?

  • Dominus

Ahhhhhhh, now you’re talking. Peyton threw the monkey off his back and now, the G-Man throws the ’03 Dominus onto center stage.

My wine geek friends have asked if I’ve had the ’03 at 95 pts I told them I would need to wait for Gary to review, so alas, my day is complete.

QOTD: It all depends on where and with whom I’m drinking wine. Quaffing on the deck, da bombs; with great food and friends, I’m a dirty old man and I’m proud of it.

Thank you Gary for reviewing the Dom. Time to order some and hoping you have fun in the Greek isles. Trying their wines?

    Cheers!!!!

dirty bomb, but more on the dirty side, but when the bomb is armed correctly, I love it. ususally the bombs are over extracted,,., but hey i love “The Dead Arm” .. is that considered a bomb?
I love the fruit but when the sweet oak gets too high , then I pass.
However all being said and done, I guess more of an old worlder. Prefeer acid and finesse.
    heck,, I love vino.

    Hope your vacation was swell.

Dirty Bomb sounds too ominous and threatening.

    How about Bomby dirt?

I am just upset that Mangini won’t be on any more Soprano episodes.

Dirty Bomb here. Most of the wines in this episode are out of my price range, but I will seek out the Villacreces.

  • JustinL

Gary, you’ve really got to re-think this whole New World/Old World dichotomy. There are plenty of wines that are neither super-ripe and heavily oaked and manipulated nor fithy, bretty wines made in foudres that haven’t been cleaned in 3 generations. Here’s what I like: clean, fruit-driven wines with good acidity and structure.

  • I love the fruit bombs of the new world vintners. But I agree that many have such a similar taste and structure that it is often times hard to tell the $20 dollar ones from the 70 dolllar ones. Don’t care for the oak monster or too much heat.

Also love the some of the old world offerings, but really prefer “big Fruity Bombs.”

“Oak Monster Riding My litle pony through a skittles rainbow….that is shit that you don’t normally hear and why I love the show…I almost pissed my pants literally. You need to get a syndicated TV show!
QOTD – Dirty….I like it dirty. I have had way too many experience like you spoke of…way to manipulated and overpriced. I hate to admit it but my mid is pretty closed…If I want serious wine and not just a big Gulp, I’m going to Bordeaux, Italy and to producers like Dominus or Phelps or whichever prodeucer that recognizes that balance is KEY!!!!!!
It’ll be good to have you back!

    60% bomb
    40% dirty

Just a theory (and the theory is all mine)…. Don’t we tend to find more bombs than dirt in the price range that us mere peasants can afford?

    More Dirty than Bomb!
I actually like bombs on the 2nd day after they had a chance to diffuse some.
Example – I got some of the twenty rows grappler which you recommended. Opened one up and it was just too much sour fruit for me after being opened for only two hours. But the next day it was great. Lots of dark fruit and dark chocolate flavors and the sour cherry taste was well balanced. Now that’s what I like…I guess I am going to have to open the other 5 bottles a day early.

You are so killing me right now. You drop the top 500 website bomb and it isn’t up. What up with that? Dude? Serious, serious violation. I’ll allow a little room here because you bust ass and are on a well deserved vacation, but still, duuuuuuuuuuuuuude. QOTD: Give it to me dirty……but add some polished fruit and I’m your best friend.

    Dirty Bomb!!!!!

And if Dirty Bomb does not become a T-Shirt, I will be really disappointed!!

Sensei, you are amazing and again thank you for slogging your way through all the episodes that day to keep us entertained while you were gone. Also nice touch on the twitter today…hope your having a great time!!

Curious of the dollar amount of wine you went through this taping day and how many opened bottles you created. I sure do hope somebody gets to enjoy them! Still hurts a little to see you swish cleaning those glasses with Dominus….

Highly impressed, Gary, that you were dragging only slightly on the show, but still managed to produced quality metaphors and similes, Vaynerchuk style! Love it.

Reminds me of that little girl in the original Willy Wonka film who ate the four course gum; your descriptions match her monologue as she relayed the soup / starter course, followed by the entree and then dessert (have not seen you balloon out like a purple grape yet, but would almost not be surprised if it happened….)

Anyway, before the naughty young girl was rolled of stage by the Oompa Loompas, I think she said something about fruity bombs, with hints of dirt.
