    I’m so dirty man!
Hard to find serious wine-food-combinations with da bombs.

  • Serge Laporte

    Hiya Garry 🙂

OOps, I looked up Wine Spectator and the Villacreces 2003 only got 84 pts.
I respect your taste and passion totally, but where did this large point discrepancy come about?
Ok, I see it was a jay Miller rating …
Anyway, always fun to csatch ya 🙂 Cheers

Loved how the Eagle’s Blood was dripping down the bottle.

Dirty bomb. The bombs are great when there isn’t too much competition from the food, but if I’m taking my time, enjoying a nice meal, the dirt starts out slow, then just builds and builds until… well, you get the point.

QOTD: I’m an non discriminational DIRTY drinker. I’ll try everything, but won’t be able to have more than a glass when tasting a bomb. My teeth hurt with those Aussie Syrazes! Seriously, I used to buy both but during the last year I’ve found that we drink only old-world home, because we drink with food. The new-world bottles we still have I take to parties and friendly gatherings where people will appreciate them more than we do. And that way we just have a taste and move on.

I agree with PhilB and eatapc about the scores for Spanish wines in Wine Spectator. I feel that they are not scored on the same basis as wines from other countries. It’s like the guy doesn’t really have a passion or even enjoy the region. Like he’s saying “OK, I’d rather be tasting France or Cali, but I’ll give you an average review on this Spanish wine to meet my deadline”. As a Spaniard this bothers me, especially after the quality leap forward in the country during the last 10 years, but I’ve come to accept it. And like eatapc said, maybe that will keep the prices low. But I don’t think so, as the word is spreading and the wines are just too good and affordable.

  • QOTD: I am a dirty bomb drinker. Several years ago, I didn’t know even know I was a old world wine drinker because I knew nothing of old vs. new world styles. I just knew I loved that earthy, “dirty sock” taste. One of the reason I keep returning to French and Italian wines. Another great show Gary!

  • QOTD: Dirty Bomb digidee all the way. Like it all, funky, fruity, jammy, earthy, shrooms. I like it all for the complexity and newness that I seek out in each wine I taste.

    QOTD – dirty bomb
“Sometimes you feel like a nut sometimes you don’t!!”
That’s the way it is w/ me. I love a CoteRotie syrah or stinky CdP and of course Pomerol/StE/or Medoc.
But man, I also love a huge fruit bomb once in a while, eg Garretson Bulladoir! Have not tried that Upslope syrah yet, but I know I’ll like it. It all depends on the situation…

Great string of show here, Gary! Way to burn the midnight oil before Vaca.

  • Even the 11th was still great. Kudos!
@fatdoi: think them great too? Mmh, have had every vintage yet. None, I repeat: NONE of them disappoints. Sheer greatness, and still reasonably priced.
QOTD: I am definitely a dirt(y) bomb. No prejudices and depending of the food I’m in for.

Gary it’s very hard to find any Australian wines for a modest price that aren’t OTT with candy fruit and oak. Perhaps they are confusing oak for tannin. One I would love you to try is the Penfolds RWT (red wine trial) Sourced from several small west Barossa vinyards it sounds promising. Parker 92-96. Please let us know if it is real wine or not before we shell out 90 bones for Aussie kool- aid. Unfortunately, you can’t trust Parker when it comes to Australian reds.
If you’re between Greece and Turkey check out Patmos it’s non touristy there’s a monastary there for the lunatic who wrote revelations. Kos is also a great island if you like smokin hot lusty Swedish babes.
    Good times.
