I tried the Bon Bon a few weeks ago. Liked it quite a bit. I’d go 88 on that one.

QOTD: German Riesling or a nice, crisp Gruner Veltliner

Thanks for really BRINGING IT today. The passion is appreciated.

QOTD: I really like a great Pinot Noir, from California. For whites I prefer a Sauv. Blanc.

“Pussy willows” and “long things with brown on the end”(cat-tails)??? You were all over the place today. Dropped another G.D. as well.

Gary, I never said I love you to anyone up to about age 17. Then I noticed one of my best friends doing it every time he spoke with his parents. It really made an impact on me and I started doing it too. My parents noticed something different and immediately took me off for drug counseling!! No, just kidding. They thought it was great. Now I must tell my girls I love them 10 times a day. You’re right, very powerful for anyone to try. Plus it makes you feel good when someone returns the favor.

Still like my whites chilled. That “rule” I like.

  • You’ve got the College Kid Crews – now you have the Dale Cruse. (No? Not funny? Oh well.)

    QOTD: Krug Sauvignon Blanc!

Gary: You’re a madman! But we love you for it!

feeling the love on this one Gary. right back at you!

my new favorite summer red : Cab Franc.
my new favorite summer white : Kerner

i remember starting to tell my friends that i loved them back in college. and when my guy friends and i would hug people thought it was weird. well i think it’s weird not to show your love for your friends so i continue 20 years later to do the same. 3 simple and powerful words. worth the price of a admission to get up every morning and have a new day i think.

    cheers!

  • jaye

QOTD: Dry Michigan Rieslings. Check out Hickory Creek Winery in the Lake Michigan Shore AVA. They’re a bit pricy (esp for a grad student like me), but their estate riesling rocks my socks off!

Great attitude, and spunk. You’ve broken all the rules of wine tasting now. Hit the showers, kid.

My hero. The G-Man does it again! Amazing. You are da man. One of my fav shows since I’m in the market for some nice summer whites.

QOTD: Fav summer wine? It has to be a good German Riesling Kabinett, hands down.

P.S. Off to order some whites (Ross & Sbragia) for my grillin’ on Saturday with friends. Oh yes, love the rant. I have a 6’6″ son who towers over me and I tell him I love him EVERY time I talk to him in person, IM or email. You are right, life is too short. Make every pitch as though it were your last.

Pussy willow? Cat-tails is what you’re talking about.

  • Great job, Gary! Are you sure the gasoline fumes of the traffic passing by didn’t affect your tastebuds?! Favorite summer wine: a crisp and yes, chilled Sauvignon Blanc from Lake County (Northern California) any brand will do, paired with a few great friends.

    Great show. QOTD: Riesling Kabinett.

Since you’re breaking the rules: do you recommend shipping wine in this heat (e.g., from NJ to VA)?

    Thanks,

When it comes to summer, I live for Riesling. Also, I tried the Bon-Bon last week, and I loved it. I found it at least as good as some top French Roses I’ve had, but I just love Rose. 91 points, baby.

No earth-shattering revelation from me, G. My summertime quaffer is Kim Crawford sauvignon blanc. The 2006 is tremendous…

  • great love rant; couldn’t agree more. people think that showing emotion is a sign of weakness in this culture–weird. it’s a sign of emotional intelligence and depth. (or of someone who is hopelessly needy and suffocates those around him. — take your pick!) 😉 cheers, bro.

  • Keep plugging the Riesling. It needs an advocate. My favorite summertime wine, of course.

  • Fun episode good job.

QOTD: COLUMBIA GORGE THE PINES SATIN 2006 $11 A BOTTLE BEST NOSE YOU WILL EVER HAVE………….NO QUESTION!!!

  • Nice complement to Episode 182â??good stuff today (as usual)!

Back where I’m from (southern Illinois/western Kentucky) we called ’em cattails, tooâ?¦ in agreement with many folks above. On the ‘sharing the love’ thread: I have a very small family (Mom, me, that’s it) — so that sort of cuts through the standoffish stuff. Carpe diem. Never miss an opportunity to let ’em know.

Thanks for giving us another great episode from the heart, Gary.

QOTD: Chards have been the default in the past. *yawn* I’m still looking for a great wine for Summer ’07â?¦ and thanks to all the feedback above, I have some new contenders! Can’t wait to try ’em all.

  • QOTD: Yes, agree with brian swanson–Kim Crawford rawks. Fills the room with citrus and grass; big, clean finish. Diggin’ Marlborough releases this summer, in spades.

  • Speaking of trying something new, the wife and I shared a 2004 Pascual Toso Malbec with our leftover spaghetti bolognese.

    Yum.

  • California Sauv Blanc is my favorite in the summer. Saracina (from Mendocino) especially rocks.
