Gary, Gary, Gary…YOU ARE RIDONCULOUS!!!!!! What an amazingly, super show!! Thank you for your marathon. AND ESPECIALLY the comments about saying ‘I love you’ to those important to you…AND…breaking the wine rules!!! So, in answering the QOD, I’m breaking a rule as well! My summertime wines are not whites, but reds. I love reds and drink them year round.

Sounds like pinks may be more fun than blondes, they are just so pretty and different. I love my brother (Jon B) he got me watching this show and I love the energy and fun Gary V – you rock. My brother brings a different bottle of wine every Sunday to our family dinner for us all to try – it is so fun to come up with our own descriptions.
QOTD-I am a fan of chilled Reislings in the sumer but I will have to try the Bon Bon and the Fort Ross.

Cattails. We used to beat each other with them when we were kids. Great fun.

Cat o nine tails…. used by the old Royal Navy to discipline naughty memebrs of the crew. It was a whip with typically nine strands to thoroughly flog someone.

    Nice display of public drinking.

QOTD: Sauvignon blanc, but willing to break my own rules once in a while.

Hey Gary – I’ve been wondering this for awhile now. Why do you rinse out the old glass with the new wine? Why not just use water? Or even just a tiny bit of the new wine?

After watching you dump probably $10 or $20 worth of the final Chardonnay, I just had to ask.

Summertime…F the rules is right. I LOVE a big bold zin when I am firing up the BBQ on a 95+ deg day. On the other hand a NZ SB is right up there.

    Any Greek wines coming up?

    64 = 2^8 and sweet mother of vinegar, it’s a HEAT EPISODE!

Love summer whites, especially if they’re Italian.

Next time you really gotta do a rose show in the spring though, so everyone’s got time to stock up before it gets too hot. Not a good selection of fresh ones out here in the stix … Banfi Centine ’05? That’s about it.

QOD: Mosel riesling! Boring maybe, but always good and always cheap. Although that fiano-greco blend gave it a run … redwise, Logis de la Giraudiere – a cheap Anjou Cab Franc from Baumard. Great stuff, except I’ve run out.

Too many duds on this show… who cares how RP scores wines, he’s a stupid f–k. Can anyone in CA make a Chard w/o over-oaking? Yes, try Grgich Hills.

What an effort! Thanks for busting your a** in the heat. QOTD – I don’t really segregate wine to a season. It just depends on my mood. Really enjoy **slightly** chilled NZ Sauvignon Blanc when it’s hot though. Oh, you never know if the time you just said goodbye to a loved one is the last time you will ever see them. Sorry to be morbid, but don’t live with the regret of not having expressed your love the last time (unbeknownst to you) that you saw that person.

Good show.. It was stupid hot out there today too! Riesling is quickly becoming my fave summer thirst quencher.

  • CindyW

Am I just not seeing it? Where’s the link to the search for that last special wine?

  • This is exactly why I am rapidly becoming a huge fan…”don’t listen to Wine Spectator, or Robert Parker, or Wine Enthusiast!” Exactly – that’s why I started our Tasting Group and my blog! These guys just don’t always get it right. Furthermore, I find they are pushing the oak-laden, high alcohol, mass marketed, or over-hyped wines for reasons other than their pure love of the grape. Thanks Gary for making the point so well!!

I loved the show. However, it’s pronounced “troh-ken” not “trah-ken.” QOTD: Dry (trocken) Riesling or un-oaked Chardonnay.

  • Daniel Rymer

Wow, got an email on this one. I’ve gotta watch it.

Dude you had the A game going today..

qotd: Rieslings, Finger Lakes Seyval Blanc’s, and lately Long Island Sauvignon Blanc’s. And light (that’s what the wineries say anyway, I call ’em inexpensive) LI Merlot.

Gary, You brought the THUNDER today !!!!! As far as trying new things, ever since I have been watching WLTV I have been trying new wine. I have been branching out every trip to the store, I buy something I will probably like and something else that I don’t know anything about, it has been fun.
QOTD chilled 2005 La Vieille Ferme grenache blanc , I found it in the organic section.

  • QOD: Banfi’s Rosa Regale. I can drink a whole bottle it is so refreshing. Only 7% alcohol and its like drinking roses and raspberries and an ocean breeze.

Great ep. I was waiting for the cops to come on the scene and give you another ticket for open containers! 🙂

    Great Marathon Gary,

My favorite summertime wine is a good sekt. I love sparkling rieslings because they are fun to drink and very refreshing. They cleanse my palate and make it feel refreshed. Relief from the heat with sekt.
