QOTD: Prager Sweet Claire. 100% Late Harvest Riesling…medium-bodied…rich flavors…well balanced sweetness…pairs well with spicy food. Delish.

  • Best episode ever? At least in a long time… IMO

I totally agree on the kissing/loving thing. My wife and I just got back from Spain and out of habit I wanted to do the double kiss thing to my neighbor today when I say her…

Fun to watch how busy the store is 🙂 Looks like we need a sweatband for the head now Gary!

QOTD: I still prefer the reds but my wife and I have been drinking more Rieslings as the summer kicks in and when the summer kicks in it REALLY kicks in down here in the south. 🙂

  • WOW, just WOW. What a show, definitely the best I have seen. Thanks so much for the insight into some Varietals I have not heard of/Tried. It looked hot but I am really not sure how hot because Fahrenheit means nothing to me (big ups to Metric).

QOTD: I loves me some Pinot Gris or Sauv Blanc nicely chilled and on my deck.

Gary, thank you for your take on wine. It is is clear that you love it and it is clear that you treat it as it is supposed to be treated – enjoyable. too many of my customers take it too seriously. I want to shake them and tell them wine is supposed to be a break from the hectic parts of life. It has been exciting to follow this site and learn about wines I cannot find in my market (gives me reasons to travel). In answer to your question, my favorite summer wine is beer. I tend to have great summer memories with a tasty riesling but most often with a lovely pinot gris.

QOTD: My favorite summertime wine is the crisp, dry Heitz Grignolino Rosé. It’s superb for washing down a pan-full of homemade tacos, out on the deck. Cheers!

Gary, Up here in Maine we call them Cat-a-9 tails….not really sure if that’s right….but that’s what we call them.

QOTD: What am I digging on this summer??? White Rhones…..maybe a Condreu.

I think Tony and I are fighting for the “once a daily commenter, now a lurker” award… but I’m going old school and asking is it coincidence that he pops up in the comments after a “heat” episode?

Seriously, a tremendous effort, loving the effective use of the Vayniac wristbands (alternately known as sweatbands) and the Xavier McDaniel closing shot.

QOTD: In the summer, I love to drink Cold Heaven Viognier (still got some ’05 from last summer) with my love, and I love the love that GV gives out via WLTV!

My QOTD – What’s everyone drinking right now?

    Great one!
Can’t say that I have a single fave summer wine although last year I kind of got into Lambrusco with a little soda and lemon wedge on ice.

MASSIVE show Gary! Great looking store, by the way. Thanks for all the reviews and the encouragement. I, too have a few people in my life that I truly love, and I tell them whenever I can. Thanks, too for the shizzy on scoring wine. I think it’s sad that so many wines live or die by their scores, but what can you say? Their is a wine for everyone, right?

QOTD: Favorite summer wines: You must try (if you haven’t) Egon Mueller Sharzoff Riesling, and I also like Grahams 20 Yr. Aged Tawney Port for a little treat.

QOTD: I recently discovered “Tinto de Verano”, which means “Red Wine of Summer” in Spanish. It’s made with 1 part red wine to 1 part 7-Up. Sounds strange, but it’s really refreshing on a hot Summer day. Kind of like a lazy person’s sangria, but sparkeling.

.. I think the “brown things” that you light on fire are “cat tails”

QOTD : Top 3 : Sokol-Blosser Evolution, Kim Crawford Sauv. Blanc & Ch. St. Michelle Eroica Reisling.

    Gary,

    Great episode! 2 things:

    1) Contrary to your statement about the 2006 vintage in Germany, it was not a good year for trocken wines as the sugar levels were off the charts. It was also a poor vintage for Qba and Kabinett level wines for the same reason. Qba + trocken = very difficult to get right in 2006.

    2) Chris is totally right about those swamp plants. I grew up in Jersey and we called them punks too. You can light them on fire and use them to keep the bugs away.

QOTD: I’ve been all about the Italian Roses this summer.
