QotD: Well if I could sit down with Jesus, Confusions, Siddhartha Gautama, and my good friend Ryan Vatan over a glass of wine, that would be simply amazing.

    Shout out to Don!

  • Yay! SF glass!

mmmm, nose flavor. (with a Homer Simpson voice)

Don Hess – I wish I knew what was wrong so my words could be more specific, but just know that the Vayniacs in Northeastern Nevada are wishing you the best, and you will be in our thoughts and [agnostic equivalents of] prayers.

QOTD: I’d really like to have a glass with my grandfather on my mother’s side. My mom tells me that I met him during my first year of life, but that was also the last year of his. So I’d just like to talk to the guy. Of course, I’d have to learn Spanish first. After him, Gary Vaynerchuk and Oscar Wilde are currently tied. (And they both come in WAY ahead of the Oak Monster!)

Don – Everyone here in Ireland is pulling for you, bro!

QOTD: I’d love to have at my table the following at the same time:
Gary Vaynerchuk, Didier Dagueneau, Maynard James Keenan, Jancis Robinson, my good friend, Darshan, and my lovely wife, Lauren. Michael Broadnent could come along as well if he brings some late 1800’s Lafite with him. If we’re counting dead people, then Thomas Jefferson as well.

I guess I need to cut down on the drink….my hearing seems to have faded towards the end.

Good episode. I was wondering about the Coup De Foudre and had passed on buying it thinking it was going to be another over the top extraction experiment gone oaked. On my way to Chappallet in Napa in 3 days!

QOTD: Thomas Jefferson and his Haut Brion collection and living I would love to share a bottle with Emma Peel from the old “Avengers” series…or Maybe Catwoman.

Don- in your road to recovery do not forget the flavanoids in red wine and dark chocolate. God bless and good luck.

QOTD: I have to say my grandparents Hank, Doris, Ruth, and Jack, and Cousin Dave. Although in truth it probably wouldn’t be about the wine.

Love that you had the Chappellet on this one. QOTD: My wife, she’s been pregnant and off the vino for nine months now so I am looking forward to enjoying a bottle with her after the baby arrives.

Gary you mentioned that in the States a wine has to be 75% the varietal that is on the label. I was at a wine tasting last night and the rep said that in the last few days/weeks that had been backed down to 70%. Both percentages bother me. I don’t care if you blend but please let me know! You think you are drinking a Cabernet Sauvignon but it is potentially 25-30% something else. This Pinot Noir sure is BIG, yeah it is 25% Cab Sauvignon (we just did not put it on the label) and those big ole Cab grapes got in that bottle and took over the neighborhood. But I wanted a Pinot…Surprise!!!

63 days until… the Jet’s first pre-season game? (easy enough to check I guess)

Interesting that you said that Chappellet has turned their program around. There was a fascinating piece in the NY Times about a wine analysis outfit in Napa that consults to help wineries get a better score from Parker, and Chappellet is prominently featured. The title of the article is “The Chemistry of a 90+ Wine”. I have to say, I like their wines. It is also one of the nicest spots for a picnic in Napa.

    Gary,

Good call on the Mount Veeder. I had it a tasting a while back and the sales guy was hyping the heck out of it. I ended up dumping my glass and wondering what the hell he was thinking.

BTW- Congrats on the Time article.
