    Gary,

Good call on the Mount Veeder. I had it a tasting a while back and the sales guy was hyping the heck out of it. I ended up dumping my glass and wondering what the hell he was thinking.

BTW- Congrats on the Time article.

  • My prayers go out to you Don!

QOTD: Jesus. I think he would be a great wine drinking partner. He could just refill the bottle with some water and you would be at it again. Come on you think about it right?

Don – Hope you feel better soon!!!

QOTD – My Grandfather “Bumpa” – he has been gone for 15 years and I miss him!!!

Great episode Sensei, I was in north woods of Minnesota last week on family vacation and felt so out of touch. I need to know how to watch the episodes on my Treo!

Could tell you were little worries about some Mount Veeder backlash..but nice job staying true and giving us your honest opinion. Everyone needs to know you do get grief from wineries, distributors and importers for calling them out.

Also have to give you a shout out for recommneding the 2004 Turnbull Cab. The Mrs. and I opened one of ours the other night with some nice NY Strips on the grill and loved it!!!

    Gary-
Once againAmazing time last night. And congrats on being Time Magazine’s 2007 man of the year.

I havent finished watching this episode but I wanted to see your thought on the chappellet. Seems like they are pretty similar to mine. Here is my note from about a month ago: “had the 2004 of this with grilled cheeseburgers, fried onions, mushrooms, and bacon. Awesome pairing. the wine was quite rich and complex overflowing with fruit (raspberries, sourcherry) and new spicy oak and vanilla. It was pretty tannic. The only troubling note was the alcohol finish (14.9%) which blew off in the decanter. “

“63 Days until Garyâ??s wife gives birth. I am calling it.”

“63 days until what? MY BIRTHDAY of course!”

“63 days untilâ?¦ the combined CellarTracker/Corkd site is launched?
63 days untilâ?¦ the Jetâ??s first pre-season game? (easy enough to check I guess)
63 days untilâ?¦ I crash at your place for the next Wine 2.0 event?”

Anyone that has been paying attention knows the REAL magic number is 7, I’m counting the hours.

  • I have had the Mt. Veeder a few times in the past, and I completely agree. It was not pleasant, at all.

    Best wishes to you, Don!

QOTD: Grandpa Pastore. Great fun, and always put a smile on my face.

  • QPR – Quality/Price Ratio…that’s what I’m all about. I’m so weary of all the hype in the industry. Yes, wine is a passion. Yes, wine is a way of life. But, from the suppliers that deliver them to us, it nothing more than a commodity. Why should I pay more for a bottle than its value dictates. So, thanks Gary – you bring “Caveat emptor” to a new level!

QOTD: My great Grandfather, Simone Massarella, who produced the best wine in South Philly, right out of his basement, in the 1930’s. Legend has it that his wine was so good that people lined up out of the house and down the street when his wine was released for sale. Sadly, I never got to try it.
