Congrats Tim! Go Twinkies!

I have not had an agliaglioxenfree. “Il” is said like “eel” in Italian btw. Not that I expect everyone to pronounce foreign words correctly, but if I can spread some knowledge then I'm going for it.

QOTD: I had a St. Croix from Winehaven. It was pretty good. Not too acidic and not too inky. It was a little thin but I think they did a great job with a difficult grape.

QOTD: July 4th is one of those days I literally take a rare holiday from wine. Beer with Bar BQ at lunch, and a dry gin martini to begin the evening.

Aglianico is a fairly recent discovery for me in the last couple of years. It has become one of my favorite Italian wines below the Tuscan border. I will have to try to find the Coviv.

Thanks for another fabulous show. QOTD; We’ll be serving Mojave Red beer (from the east side of the Sierras) and the Turnbull you mentioned a couple of weeks ago. Happy Independence Day…

Dang! Another wine to buy. My wife will eviscerate me if I buy any more wine right now. I’ll have to keep this in mind for later. QOTD – haven’t made up my mind yet – maybe Pillar Box Red – something fun and not too sophisticated.

QOTD: 4th of July is just another day over here, so I’m having just another wine :). Lehrner ‘Ried Gfanger’ Blaufränkisch (that’s the grape) 2005, from Austria. Not terrible, but has this very strange powder sugar thing going on, both on the nose and palate. No wood involved in making this, so it’s not your typical vanilla sweetness either.

How about a show on Austrian reds, actually?

Also think that Aglianico is superinterresting and only had it once, still searching for that superstar. But, It’s a pity you didn’t show also a Taurasi from neighbouring Campania. I’d appreciate it.
    Still, a great episode.

Must add, all the dryish wines are so completely massacrated (except amarones) by winecritics over here in Sweden (Europe) that those wines are more rare than the dry ones.

    Gary,
thanks for doing a show on aglianico, I think it’s very interesting. It is really considered a BIG italian wine also because it has a great ageing potential and complexity. Why not in the future do a show on other big south italian reds, such as Primitivo, Salice Salentino, Taurasi?
QOTD: sadly I’m not drinking anything today… gotta save money 🙁

Italy remains the home for many “native” grapes that don’t seem to grow well anywhere else. That is why there are so many interesting areas to explore.

QOTD: trying some of these Mollydooker wines. There is enough alcohol in these things to remove paint, so we will see…

Gary, I think it’s great that you introduce people to unfamiliar grape varieties. And Italy has plenty of them! Aglianico is great stuff. In addition to Basilicata, it’s also grown in Campania. Taurasi tends to be expensive stuff, but there are also Aglianico d’Irpinia and Aglianico Beneventano at more approachable prices. BTW, regarding the Macarico, the problem with it seeming unlike aglianico might have to do with 2003 being such a hot year. I had a similar problem with the 2003 Feudi di San Gregorio “Rubrato” (their entry-level aglianico). The 2002 tasted more the way I expect aglianico to taste, even though that was a difficult year for different reasons.

QOTD: I was thinking of an Old/New World comparison for Syrah (to go with braised lamb). I was going to put up a 2004 Crozes-Hermitage from Emmanuel Darnaud against the leftovers of last night’s 2001 d’Arenberg “Footbolt,” but now you have me thinking about aglianico, so I might change my mind.

Gary – if you are true you will publish the people that do not kiss your butt. You take the class out of wine. Your video runs slow, not because of trafic from Time, but because your sponser’s datacenter stinks. And in the tri-state area, any Giants fan would not look at your face or listen to your annoying voice for a second, YUCK TO YOU. Keep your t-shirts, and retard-iacks. You are a fake. You love yourself, not your wines, and Time has been written to by higher authorities to let them know the mistake they made.

Howard Stern does not sell your family wines, and you are not even a comparison, you embarrass, alll from Sonoma and every vineyard out there, I wish I could just spit on you, you lost our business slowly but surely because of your nonsense. When are you going to grow up? iiick. I have maybe a glass 4x week, and you make me want to attend an AA meeting, you fake. Tell you Fake-iacks that you do not even drink, c’mon be honest as you claim to be, tell them, you taste and spit like a cheap wh*re. Video is old, vlog? Might as well be known as moron, and your old crap .mov’s stink and never load.

Your new sponsor, clearly cannot handle the lack of bandwidth you do not receive, I mean it should at least load for one person. I used to like your company, but you make me sick. I will buy my classy wines, from a classier firm. Never will I buy my celebration bottles when they are compared to a wiffle ball bat that were filthy, and gross, even with ome lime, you overusing adjective idiot.

Stop embarrassing yourself. Bookmark removed, as for my business, found another local shop near you that is classy and not the shock-jock wanna-be of expensive wines. Go pretend you have important friends. Cuz your football player told me he has no idea who you are. Loser.

Post this if you have an ounce of respect for opposite opinions. Otherwise you CENSOR to your advantage for your responses, and I WILL EXPOSE YOU LIKE YOU HAVE NEVER DREAMED OF BEING EXPOSED. I will expose you in person, with live cameras, so this BETTER BE on your site. And I ask you to defend yourself.

Sell Kool-aid and everclear, that I might buy from you in a wiffle ball bat, you nothing.

  • What was that Erica thing?
Still love the show and the mark was way off with her comments.
Haven’t had a lot of Angliacos as I got turned off by a few not so great bottles. Might try again.
This 4th we are drinking a 2003 Elyse Courbier that is there inexpensive table red and Rumball sparkling Shiraz.

Hey Erica! Take your bad attitude and shove it up your A $ $. I understand if you want to be a snob about wine, and not have fun with it, but to go on a rant such as this shows just how low-class you really are. Did you have all four of your glasses for this week before you posted your comments? I find your arguments disjointed and lacking in any foundation. Sounds to me more like a case of vino envy.

As for those of us who want to explore new wines (such as this episode about Aglianico) and have a little fun while doing so, Gary is providing a great service (and no, I don’t buy wine from him because I live in a state that doesn’t allow shipping). However, if that were possible, I definitely would.

Oh, and by the way, I have NEVER had a problem loading his videos. Sounds to me like your 6 year old computer with it’s 56K modem needs an upgrade. Try DSL or Cable. One more thing… where did you plan on ‘exposing’ Gary? Do YOU have your own web tv show or something? How come I have never heard of you? You nothing.

    Sorry Gary. Some people.

QOTD: Went on a booze cruise and watched fireworks with the city of Chicago as a backdrop! Freakin’ amazing! The wines they had were not so … how you say… good, so I drank vodka most of the night! Cheers!
