Yesterday I asked for Austrian wine, today I get Austrian wine. Great!

On my Blaufränkisch yesterday (which is related – thanks for the info), I also had a sort of ‘fake fruit’ experience. I described it as powder sugar, but fake/artificial fruit flavour is actually more accurate. Also that wine was like a strange twist on Pinot Noir.

Interesting, but not really something I’ll be buying by the case load, the Austrians…

2005 Bv Beauzeaux is so horrible!! It was a nice way for BV to use all the bulk crap on the market and try to make some money…It is so foul. $7.99 is $7.98 to much for this wine! You got jock strap right for that wine, but i wouldnt say mint grasshopper.. Its like a jock strap dunked in a spit bucket from a winery tasting room!

QOTD: I think you should wear a tweed jacket w/tie and speak in a fake affected Cambridge accent about peat and minerality.

GV- Nice mix of wines. You almost had me buying a case of the BV until you threw in the Sike. QOTD: Free shipping obviously. Honestly, love the show, I like best episodes about wines not from the US since I’m a bit burnt out on the US Cab/Chard thing.

Can’t believe you haven’t done a show on Fairview’s “Goat” wines—they’re fun and cheap and very popular. Just begging for the GV treatment! I agree that SA has a lot of potential, so why not give them a little air time?

QOTD: maybe glassware – Riedel glasses; small vs large glasses – does the shape really affect the taste? Why do restaurants charge an arm and a leg for their wines? Corkage fees – is $35.00 really fair? Otherwise – keep up the good work.

One more thing—Hungary is another wine-growing area with a lot of potential (and a lot of tradition, too) but I’m surprised at how expensive the wines are. There must be a good local market, because they’re not giving the stuff away, and it’s just not that good.

QOTD: i really liked the few episodes i caught where you had the winemaker on the show. or i would like to see one where you interview and taste the wine with the winemaker, then taste it by yourself so you can really critique it and so people don’t assume you’re being nice cause the winemaker is there with you. oh, and never button up the top button. please.

Don’t change a damn thing. You’ve produced a great mix of shows. I’m sure you scan the forum on what we are drinking so occasionally that could be a nice basis of what to review on the show. And speaking of the forum, were you also scared when the ’05 two-buck chuck (not chuck) won the double gold!

Great work as always. Its good to promote experimentation of these different varietals from Austria, Greece, Hungary, Turkey, Georgia.. Maybe you could do another episode that focuses on these off-the-beaten-path wines we are all used to drinking. That would be cool.
