  • QOTD: None. I’m a GSK (Grad School Kid, yes, we are kids), so 20 bones for entry level ain’t my thing.

And you came sooooo close to a knock on Hova that we almost came to blows. You about lost one right there.

QOD – Lots. I love sticking my nose in the horse’s ass. Burgundy is great food wine.

  • BruceP

QOTD. Hard to say. Not enough. Maybe 100(plus or minus 10). I love Burgundy, so I seek it out whenever possible. The number is definitely skewed from a single tasting event in France a couple of years back where I had at least 4o different red burgs.

Okay I’m starting to get an inferiority complex. Try as I might I can’t ever recall in my limited experience sticking my nose up a horse’s ass NOR standing with the horses at Belmont sticking celery up my nose, I believe I’ve led a sheltered life.

I’m gonna take the $45 wine education, I’ll put aside the loud clothes, the cape, the hoopla, the noisemakers, all that jazz and the loads of load of candy and swap it for a pipe and a dictionary for a weekend only because I’m feeling more and more the illiterate when it comes to wine. Besides how can I resist Jason’s endorsement that “good burgundy tastes like shit?”

However, I reserve the right to send you an email saying this jerkoff thought it sucked. (More importantly, do I have some leeway with what a stuff the pipe with?)

QOTD: Zilch, I’m pathetic but they say recognition and acknowledgement is the first step.

JoeinLA, I think you’re not drinking enough, otherwise you’d not be having these problems. 🙂

GV, Awesome show and I am enjoying the progression as you wine through the days of the week “AKA” all in one day. Definately having fun with the poop and vomit “nose.” I can relate.

QOTD: A few. Most recently, like Neil, the Gevrey Chambertin. It was definately underage last fall when I had it. I have a few more to try in a few years when they mature.

    Hope you’re enjoying Hungary.
    Cheers

I’ve tasted lots of Pinot’s from france but the high prices limit my buying them. Calif. pinot’s unfortunately are pricey now also. I’ve tried sev. from chile that were quite tasty and less than $20

QOTD: ONE, that I know of… in the airport at Dulles… I’m sorry, but I just CAN’T venture into that territory YET…. but I WILL!

    🙂
I have had over a dozen, and I have 6 more in the cellar. Interesting that when I first got them a couple years ago and tried them they tasted like CRAP!

But after some reading and education, I found that is suppose to be a good thing,,,, so here I am still drinking wines that taste like CRAP, and thinking it’s ok,,,, is that ok??

Did open a 2001 Brunello two weeks ago that without a doubt smelled like poop,, I wouldn’t have known how to discribe it, or dared discribe it that way, but for having watched WLTV. Thanks GARY!

QOTD —- Way too many burgundys to keep track of. Spent almost a week in Burgundy just roaming around and tasting from all the little areas. Amazing wines. Thanks for the ep GV. Bourgognes are usually good deals, I especially have liked the Rion and Arnoux eforts over the years. Good “go to” producers.

Great Episode. I’ve suspected for a while, though based on limited experience, that the Bourgogne Rouge wines frequently don’t get the credit they deserve.

QOTD: I’ve had three: a bourgogne rouge, a Cote De Nuits-Villages, and I’m going to count the Irancy because its 90% pinot and 10% Cesar. I have a fourth, another Cote De Nuits-Villages, sitting on my rack waiting for the right evening, whatever that means.

Pipe and dictionary, reminds me of my Opa’s cellar in Grotzingen with the pork sausage and homemade schnapps along with some cider and cheese aroma’s. Take me back to the old world. Haven’t tried any French Pinot’s yet, but Brandon Warnke has some picks I may try. Stay cool in Hungary.

QOD: I’ve only been keeping track of my consumption over the last year and a half, thanks to cellartracker (sorry Cork’d). From that count it’s been only 9, but I know it’s actually a bit more. I love Burgundy, but it is just too damn expensive. In it’s place, I buy Oregon and Central Otago Pinot and occaisonally some Cru level Beaujolais. It’s not quite the same, but its close enough and a lot easier on the wallet. Having said that one of the best wines I’ve ever had in my life was a Mongeard-Mugneret Grands-Echezeaux. Orgasm in a bottle. And at restaurant prices, it was a splurge, but it was a special occaison and it paid off bit time. My two other dining companions were shocked by the beauty of that wine and how well it complemented everything on the table. The preceding bottle was a 1998 Domaine du Vieux Télégraphe Châteauneuf-du-Pape La Crau, which was no slouch, but the Burgundy just made the La Crau seem like child’s play.

I don’t know how many Pinots from France I’ve had. More than I can count. But I’m noticing the same thing Gary has–Burgundy is now competitive with California, and who’d a thunk it.

  • Run PMC

Did I hear some slurring around the 6 minute mark? 😉

When are you going to do the Spring or Howell Mtn Cab tasteoff, while wearing overalls, a beard and something else country-esque….

I’m def buying some of those vomit wines…mmmmm.mmmmmmmmm.mmmmmmmmmmm
