FRAT BOY? Freaks that know nothing? Wine was never invented to be a separator of the classes, just the opposite. France doesn’t want people like this guy. Get used to it, jerk, ordinary people are getting educated about wine, thanks to Gary V. and I guess you’re going to have to find some other hobby to raise your self up above other people. He sounds like the kind of guy who buys a Ferrari and never drives it, just keeps polishing it in the garage. France doesn’t want a guy like you, maybe North Korea, yeah, you and Buddy Holly sipping some Hennesy watching porn. That sounds more up your alley….

Keep it going Gary!!!! Your Vayniacs are with you. Lobster tail, Sancerre, cheesecake shared with my wife.

  • Cheers! What a tour-de-force episode, I don’t think the Conan crowd appreciates just how funny you are, the bit with the Grand Marnier rant, the family here was cracking up. I want to be the spinoff of winelibrary like Maude and Jeffersons back in the old days. Give me syndication rights! This is a gem!

    Gary,

I recently read, “Timequake,” by Kurt Vonnegut who made the following observation that instantly made me think of your naysayers, “She was acculturated! Acculturated persons are those who find that they are no longer treated as the sort of people they thought they were, because the outside world has changed…’Nothing wrecks any kind of love more effectively than the discovery that your previously acceptable behavior has become ridiculous.'”

    I feel sorry for them.

    Anyway.
QOTD: Something Piedmonte-ese with truffles, a barolo or barbaresco, and the special person I hope to someday meet.

    In defense of Gary-

To all the nay sayers that believe Gary’s fan are “freaks” and don’t know anything about wine: keep in mind that some of us actually work in the wine business, selling, buying, importing, and auctioning these wines. Some of us have been featured in articles, and in the vast pages of “serious” wine media.

If one finds no fun in wine, there is absolutley no point. Wine should hopefully be a joyful experience, and no matter how one chooses to express that joy it is their own choice entirely. Is there intimidation that
Gary is more bombastic than your average eonophile? Perhaps if James Laube actually showed emotion we should fear him. If Gary so chooses to share his personal opinion one can take it or leave it, but one can never fault a man for speaking up.

To all the nay sayers please look somewhere else to focus your negativity, as is most of us “freaks” are having a really good time.

QOTD: Otto: Atleast two cheese courses, pizza, Caponata, Franciacorta, Brancaia Illitraia, gelato, vin santo, espresso. With the old crew Kenny, Robby, Andy and Rose.

Great episode. You could destroy Dennis Miller in a rant-off any day.

Just had my first attempt at the old Alsace-Gewurtraminer-with-a-spicy-dish. Didn’t work out too well. When cooking with Buffalo Wild Wings Blazin’ sauce, BE CAREFUL!

QOTD: I think I’m too young and immature for that question to apply to me. But I’ll tweak it. Best thing like that I’ve had is a couple months ago going to my girlfriend’s condo (You’d like her GV, she’s Belarussian) with my 2002 Pieve Del Vescovo Lucciaio (I’m a dryhead), eating some delicious pasta/chicken breast dish she made, and watching the NBA Draft the whole time. To me, that is (was) an amazing night.

Weird? Freak? I resemble those remarks.

Way to call out the neighsayers, doubtful any will have the cajones to go knocking on your door anytime soon lest you take them to school.

Cordials…. oh lord, I could tell you stories about adolescents, blackberry brandy, cognac, annisette and tuna fish sandwiches w/tomato (to this day I can not look at a tf&t without gagging).

Just how does one know something tastes like Grand Mariner if they’ve never had it? Are you psycho…. er, psychic?

Thundercats were a little after my time but I’m working on it.

QOTD: French Onion Soup, Steak House Salad, Baked Potato, Onion Rings, Organic Vegetable Tasting, Special Chateaubriand and Macadamia Nut Ice Cream in the dessert room. Wine? Oh the wine, where to start? The company? TampaSteve, Ftboomer and just the biggest thing to hit the ‘net since since Al Gore invented it…. oh wait that’s just conjecture, now isn’t it? ;’)

QOTD to you: Why do I get the feeling that WL is out of stock on Stonecreek Reserve Cabernet because it’s all stockpiled in a spare bedroom somewhere on the Upper East Side?

Wow, you know its going to be a great episode when it STARTS with a crazy rant. Yes you’re obnoxious and over-the-top, but so are we and we love it!

Wine is fun! Gary, you make it fun, and that’s awesome! I drink wine because its fun. And yummy.

QOTD: Seafood, maybe cedar-grilled cajun salmon and a nice pinot grigio, soft and buttery but with enough strength to take the cajun.

From Top 10 to . . . well, my office connection was a disaster.

Great, great show, rant and all. I was surprised you did not mention that Owen Roe makes world class Pinots from Oregon with a great QPR. I love the label so I will try some of his Walla Walla but please, better than Napa? Good luck this weekend.

QOTD: My trifecta will take place at Chateau Boyer (Les Crayeres) in Reims, France

    Appetizer: Stuffed zucchini blossoms
Entre: Grilled Lamb Chops with Blueberry Sauce
    Dessert: Creme Brulee

    Wine: ’86 Chateau Petrus

Guest: Living: Jennifer Love Hewitt Dead: Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart

    Cheers!

  • The show rocked…

Glad to see you taking up for us, I would like to know how someone could generalize about the wine knowledge of all the Vayniacs. I know I didn’t take a test, did I do it in my sleep or something.

I think blending is becoming more popular, I know here in Virginia the wineries that really produce outstanding wines, have the skill of blending down to the art and science of it.

At Woodland Vineyard this year we are starting to do some blending based of input from Megan and I. I think that we came up with some stellar blends.

QOTD: That is a tough one, The person, My Wife Megan; The wine, Dry Creek Zin; The food, homemade veggie deluxe pizza with feta on top.

    Explanation:

THis wouldn’t be my number one meal and wine combo of all time but Team MJ (MeganJohn) makes a delicious veggie pie and with a great, not too over the top Zin, it is a great date night here at the Witherspoon house.

Rocked it…Loved the episode today way to lay it down..Love cheeses and I’m super pumped to see what the rest of the week brings.QOTD Non specific Italian (preferably red sauced with some Parmigiano Regiano).Got to go Barolo and would love nothing more than to share it with my wife, who is currently pregnant with our third, which leaves me drinking alone.Great show today thanks GV and WLTV crew.

Great rant GV, you tell ’em. Note to ’em: don’t watch!

QOTD- A seat outside near the Atlantic, a sack of steamers with ice cold beer, a plate of softshell crabs sauteed in garlic with a side of corn on the cob, some Langwerth Spatlese, with the whole family.

QOTD: At the beach, my girl, my homies, my close family for a BBQ. It’s 110 degrees, we’ve had some Asahi Super Dry to make us smile and are laughing at whoever brought the 7 dollar Chianti in the wicker basket, chilled it to almost freezing and then served it up with the burgers and hot dogs. But, that’s a perfect match of good food, good wine (hey cold chianti and grilled burgers at the beach when it’s 110 is perfect), and good peeps.
That’s what life is all about. Besides, the chianti (purchased by the case for the bbq) can be used as sun screen lotion, too.

Been watching the show since the early days (an Amarone episode somewhere in the 30’s) and have watched you become more animated and use stock phrases and cliches. “That being said . . . ” I still enjoy the show as you “bring the thunder” and it is always “intriguing” and I’m “super excited” to see what you’re going to “give a whirl” after a “sniffy sniff” . You do get to act “over the top” but you bring the heart and come across as sincere, bring energy and excitement and make wine tasting fun – something that is missing in many other wine tasting circles. So, thank you.
    That being said. . . QOTD . . .
dinner includes a warm King crab salad on belgian endive with a 2004 Kistler Sonoma Coast Chardonnay, a mushroom risotto with parmagiano reggiano cheese and shaved white truffles paired with a 2004 Williams Selyem Russian River Pinot. Secondo Piatti is a grilled veal chop with a 1999 Tignanello or 1997 Frescobaldi Castelgiocondo Brunello. Dessert is chocolate mousse with a Fonseca 1994 vintage port.
Dinner is with my family and friends, and Gary V. as I expect him to bring the wine (along with the thunder).

If that’s not the dinner . . . then a slice of pizza from Stromboli’s on University Place with a bottle of 1989 Lynch Bages.

[sigh] I LOVE YOU. Thanks for sticking up for your peeps. 🙂
LOL– that third button popped; niiiice!
Seriously, this may be my favorite episode to date! There’s something fantastic about your attitude. I am loving it. Thanks for giving it.
QOTD: Oh lord… ok: Filet Mignon with a blue cheese topping and cabernet reduction sauce, with baked sweet potatoes – brown sugar and butter- and grilled asparagus. If I had to choose a wine I’ve already tasted and liked, it would be ’04 Eric Kent Kalen’s Big Boy Blend Shiraz. And the person: Sara L., my homey in Chicago, because she really knows how to enjoy a meal, and she’s my BFF.
