It’s the cursing I could do without. You are far to intelligent and articulate to use foul language.

Gary, YOU ARE MY HERO!!! Thanks for the Walla Walla praise…I’m going in September and having been to Napa twice now, I can’t wait to make the comparison (but I’m secretely biased toward Walla Walla as I LOVE MY HOME STATE!)

Good rant, too. Don’t let the a-holes get you down, keep on keepin’ on!

    Gary –

Lurker coming out into the light here. ADORE your show – do not even think about changing and good for you for “sticking it to the man”.

I too am glad you gave some props to Washington State wines. I “developed” a true appreciation for wine while living in Yakima. Hell, nothing else to do in Yakima than partake in some good Yakima Valley wines –

Interesting idea about the muscat as G.Marnier – one of my favorite drinks is a “Blueberry Tea” – 1 black tea bag steeped in 1oz GM, 1oz scalding water – all of it “resting” on top of another glass of hot water. I’ll try replacing the GM with the muscat – might work?

    Keep it up.

Great show! Nice to include a little lightening with the THUNDER! QOTD: Thick rib eye, some sassy, garlicy, cheesy pasta, and chocolate lava cake, with a bottle of 2002 Quilcita Creek Cab…with my wonderful wife who is very good company, but doesn’t like red wine. (I get to drink the whole bottle!!)

  • Gary i have the first technological advance idea from the “Changing the wine world labs”.

Go out to office depot and get yourself a crosscut paper shredder. Print out a big sticker that says “WLTV Hater Grater” and slap it on the front. Now every time you get one of those lame hater mail letters slam it into the hater grater on the show. It will make you feel better and show these critics of the new style just “a little bit” of what we are about :D.

  • Dear Gary,

Your approach to wine and community remains an inspiration. You are the Obama of the wine world, while Parker and Spectator are its Hillary Clinton. In other words, you’re changing the world, and motivating others to take part in the change. Those who love the status quo will inevitably balk whenever you make any headway, but that only proves that they see you as a genuine threat. I’m confident that what you are doing is good for America. You’re not defiling something sacred; you’re sharing something wonderful with the masses. And I will continue to be your advocate wherever I go.

  • heh, I like the “hater grater” idea. Maybe you could even save all the shavings and have some kind of celebration when the pile reaches a certain height.

  • Great to have you back Erik. Hope things are going well with the family.

This is the first episode that Sarah and I have watched together and I couldn’t have asked for a better one. Not for the wines that were tasted or the theme of the episode (although it was a good one). You’ve had a ton of comments about your intro ‘rant’ and all we could do was nod our heads. It’s good to know that there are more people out there like us. People that just want to enjoy ourselves, but at the same time enjoy some excellent wine (and maybe learn a little something). Which brings me to the question of the day…

QOTD: Sit me down at the Chef’s Table at a 5 star restaurant. Alone. Feed me beluga caviar, perfectly seared foie gras, black truffles, and any of the most expensive foods that can be prepared. That’s….that’s…garbage…

I feel that it doesn’t matter WHAT you’re eating, but WHO you’re eating with. You can feed me grilled cheese heated on a radiator, and so long as I’m with someone that is near and dear to me, THAT will be my ultimate meal.

I’ve have hundreds of my greatest meals ever. Each one is unique, spent with someone who is special to me, and I look forward to the next.

    Gary.

Forget about the guys bad mouthing you. Chances are they are form competitors trying to downgrade WLTV.

I see the same thing in apartment reviews around Houston. Amazing how all the negative comments seem to sound very much alike.

I wouldn’t even give them the time of day!!!

    Ignore them.

    You are leading the pack!!

  • Gary,

I think you are exactly what the wine world needs and I am so appreciative that you are including all of us in it! Keep rocking on Gary! It’s a new time and I think you hit it right on the nose with people trying to impress their friends with their wine knowledge. I’ve been having so much more fun since I’ve been watching your blogs and I can’t imagine having a day or two without your fun attitude to look forward to while drinking a good bottle.

    Gary, you are the best!
Screw off the snobs or pseudo snobs or whatever they are. You brought the real thunder. Sure, i follow also Wine Spectator and Parker, but you are something different and that’s what we need at this point in this rusty Wine industry. You are honest, fresh and fun. You brought some personal “touch” in this great vayniac community. I feel proud of you.
Keep up the great work. You/We are changing the wine world.
