I happened upon a Sea Smoke botella 2005. Bought it! Wow!
No band-aid though. Lovely, lovely. Thanks. I like your enthusiasm.

Great episode. GV, you finally shamed me out of lurking.

QOTD – Finish off a bottle of Chinook Cab Franc, probably pop bottles of a Spanish verdejo I’ve been meaning to try (name escapes me) and the Andrew Rich Tabula Rasa Red (love this winemaker).

Tonight I’m drinking a 2005 Novy Barbieri Zin. Sunday (my 29th birthday) I’m opening a 2003 Elderton Command.

Oh, I do lurk here, but I’m active in the forum. I repay you by buying a lot of wine from your store. πŸ™‚

Oh, and I have 9 bottles of the 2005 Seasmokes left! I tried one of the Southing’s so far (my first SeaSmoke ever). I think these wines need a lot of time, 2-3 years minimum!

Great Friday show!! We hosted a wine tasting a few months ago and it was awsome and a lot of fun. About once a month we get together with some other couples for a dinner. The idea is that someone brings main course, appetizer and desert. We pick a region or country and bring a dish and wine from that area, it is random and fun.
QOTD- Ercavio 2005 just arrive from Wine Library

This was the episode I’ve been waiting for! I really appreciate that you tapped your own Sea Smoke stash to deliver the thunder to the WLTV viewers. I tried the ’05 Southing for the first time at a restaurant and was really blown away by the heavenly nose, and the taste and finish did not disappoint. I was really curious to hear your thoughts. I’m glad you liked them, too. You made my day!

Ugh, when you said it tasted like bandaids, I actually had a flashback and could remember the taste! The things we tasted as kids… Did you ever play the “taste” game when you were young?? Wait, you do that now, dont you?? We would close our eyes and someone made you taste something..it was usually something very hot or very gross….my twin brother was cruel….

QOTD: Not sure, going to a BBQ where some wine lovers bring a surprise

Sea Smoke is a new one for me like the Kota Brown episode. I learn a lot watching this show week in and week out. Thanks Gary…I must say the punt issue you were having brought way to many comments to mind… it almost caused my head to hurt.

QOTD: 2003 Christian Moueix Bordeaux…trying to drink more old world wines

Gary, I have a confession – I’ll be the first admittedly “serious” lurker to post today – your poking has finally gotten to me! I havent been watching for seven days…. or seven weeks … but closer to seven months and have never posted. I have to say, I’m a (relative) newbie to this wine thing… BUT – here I am. Your guilt trip worked. Hopefully a little flattery will go a long way : Gary, you didnt get me interested in wine – you didnt motivate me to buy any 50 dollar bottles of wine – But youre right, youve given me bigger gifts than that : your hip – your heart and most importantly, the ability to Trust My Own Palette. Maybe the TN in magazines and online arent quite right on for me – Does that make my opinion any less valid? NO! Thats empowerment, baby!

QOTD: warres otima tawny port – always have that stuff on hand

Pinot Noir, the mystery wine. I’ve not tried many of these. They are down on my “list” of wines to get to know. I’ll get there eventually.

QOTD: Pinot Noir. Just kidding. I’m going to finish up a Pouilley-Fuisse and try a Moreau Chablis 2004 Chablis (my first!) I’ll also be drinking a red wine, but I’m not sure what’s for supper on Sunday, so I’ll have to wait and see.

great episode. would love to see next time you open one of these special bottles, to see you actually taste a great pinot like the botella with a great duck dish either in some restaurant that you dig in the “dirty jers” or some culinary vayniac whip up a couple dishes and see how some of these wines go with the wines – maybe something for the next food episode? keep up the grat work.

Nice show. I wish I could actually *find* most of the wines you review! Up here in Canada, we have a limited selection, and in my Province of BC, we also have MASSIVE sin taxes on Wine, so a wine that is $10/bottle to you, is about $18+ a bottle here. Anyways….

QOTD: Going to a wine tasting bar this weekend, so a lot of different wines I hope!

    WOW TOP 70 AGAIN!!!!
    Sea Smoke Pinot’s Rock.
Travel shock does happen, you should buy a wine while in San Francisco that you carry in the store in NJ. Drive around with it in the trunk then take it on the flight back to NJ. Open this bottle the 1st day you get back and compare it to the same wine thats been sitting in your store for at least a few weeks.
QOTD: 2002 Chateau Valrose (From a previous WLTV episode)

    Yo Gary,

We just found the show about two weeks ago and are loving every split freakin’ second. We’re just a few youngsters tryin’ to teach our palettes what the worlds about. We actually have started going back and watching the first episodes. Great show keep it up. OH YEAH, we plan to watch every one! Anyway, would love to take you out for a drink if your in the Portland, OR area πŸ™‚ Let us know. Cheers!

    With love,
    Rob & Kate

What an ending to the show today! Fantastic. You painted a picture.

I am still interested in Greek Reds. Had another one this week. The wines show some unique characteristics that seem very different from other areas. I have a feeling that you can find some good ones!

You also mentioned a Sherry episode also. That would be fun.

GV~ Damn man, I am so happy you say what you do. Like yourself I do the wine gig for a living and it’s refreshing to hear from someone else who is out to change the way people look, talk, and act about wine. BRAVO!

  • John

I need to find me some sea smoke. QOTD: I don’t know what I’m drinking this weekend. Maybe I’ll crack open a bottle of Cote Du Rhone. Nice rant at the end. One of the best pieces of advice anyone ever gave me about sitting on good bottles of wine was “crack that s__t open!” So now when I get a good bottle of wine and we’ve got company, I crack that s__t open! :o)

  • E

QOD: burger wine! Could be an older Barnett cab, could be Palazzo della Torre, could be my other Cuvee Romaine CdR (if it ain’t corked), could be Clos Fremur, could be Thackrey Pleiades, could be Irouleguy!

I dunno. I’m open to suggestions.
