QOTD: I’ve only had one CA Zinfandel, which was the Mauritson Dry Creek Valley. It’s not that I don’t like Zindandel, I just got sidetracked by other wines. Although, I did go through a Primitivo Phase for a while, and at least according to the “Wine Bible,” Zinfandel and Primitivo are genetically the same.

  • Dear Gary!
Great episode – just love Cali Zin (although its a shame we don’t get much of it over here in New Zealand) but should be able to find the Ravenswood wine. Got some Thundercats in my old toybox at home so next time I visit my folks they will be bringing the thunder all the way to you!

Nice move spitting out the crackers! Ever try to see who can eat the most saltines in a minute?

QOTD: I’ve had a few common Zins, nothing over 15 bones. I like the Ravenswood. I like the spicy/peppery component they bring.

RED ZINFANDEL???? Never saw the word Red on anything I have drunk.

Seriously, the 1997 Ravenswood VC was the aha wine for me.

Thanks for the heads up on 2003 Ridge Independence School (diff. show), drinking great right now. Rafanelli is a perennial favorite as well.

G-Man-God bless and good health, you really don’t want to know your cholesterol after the foie. And thanks alot for turning on all us foodies. Now I have to get some pate this week, its stuck in my head like an 80’s pop song.

    QOTD: in no particular order
Robert Biale Black Chicken Zin (when I like the abuse)
Howell Mountain Vineyards Howell Mtn. Zin
    Elyse Korte Ranch Zin
And just about anything from Ridge, I’m not a sucker for too many producers but I have a lot of puppy love for Ridge.

Great episode, hard to spit crackers. I have had 10-15 Zins. Drinking Gnarly Head Zin at the moment. Picked up a few bottles for a party where I knew a Gnarly Headed friend of mine would be. It was fun and wine was good too. For under 10 bones Gnarly Head is not a bad QPR.

My favorite – Brochelle Zinfandel 2004.

Favourite Zins —- Z-52 Clockspring Vineyard Old Vine Zinfandel, Amador County. Also enjoyed Michael David Winery Zins, Duckhorn Paraduxx.

Love foie gras —- especially pan-seared.

    Great Episode, love ZINS.
QOTD: TURLEY Old Vines, almost every vintage is great and its one of the cheaper
    Turley’s.

  • That was surely an interesting food pairing! I usually drink my wine with dinner. I’ll give myself a small sample while I’m preparing the meal (to get an idea of the wine pre-decanting) and then pour myself a full glass for my meal. Sometimes I’ll have another or I’ll just put a stopper in the decanter and put it into the fridge for the next day.

QOTD:I haven’t had that many really. Maybe about 5 or so but my favourite is the Clos du Val 2003 Zinfandel.

Like the Patriots, I destroy foie gras. Wonderful stuff and there’s no better place to get it than D’Artagnan.

QOTD: My fav Zin has to be a tie between Haywood and Turley though if someone was twisting my arm I would say Turley.

Pan seared foie gras atop some risotto . . . to die for.

    Cheers

QOTD: The A Mano 2001 Primitivo was my favorite Zinfandel. I found it when I was first getting into wine. It was totally undrinkable straight out of the bottle, but after breathing in the glass for about twenty minutes it was awesome, super tannic. Unfortunately I haven’t liked their more recent vintages nearly as much.

We drink Zin pretty regularly, about twice a month I’d say.

QOTD: Not a big Zin fan but will try some at the Super Tasting..can’t wait!

Speaking of the Super Tasting ..how about giving us a little scavenger hunt..give us a few wines to seek out and we can comment on them after the Super Tasting..for those of us who are lucky enough to be able to go.

Love the Zins and probably have tried at least 50- I was out in Sonoma, Napa, Mendocino in June and we can back with more Zins than anything else. I loved the Ridge Zins and the Rosenblum Zins but then again everyone loves these. For less known wines I loved Everett Ridge, Lolomis, and Graziano Zins, but the Esterlina is probably my favorite.

Gary – interesting show – Thanks for making good on your promise to do food pairings this week.

QOTD: Not that many really, I usually find CA Zinfandel’s to be New World fruit bombs and not that good. Also, the typically high alcohol makes my wife crazy. Probably 15-20 total.

QOTD: 2001 Rombauer El Dorado Zin followed by anything Seghesio makes. For a lower end Zin, I like Gnarly Head.

I like Zins but am in an Italian phase right now. Have drunk the Ravenswood several time before and always thought is was worth the money. Also enjoy the Bogel Zin.

I saw the Foie Gras in the title today and i passed out.
Just came to and watched the show.
VERY interesting pairing idea…can’t wait to try it.
    Never heard of that before.

Used to be very into Zins about 5-ish years ago.
Really been wanting to try them again.
Seghesio was probably my fav…don’t remember the vintage.
Definitely had Rancho and Ravens for sure.

    Great show!

  • QotD : I cant remember but I kinda remember what it tasted like. We have one of the Cline Zinfandels at work and its the most usefull red. I guess I´ve had 10 different.

  • I’ve tried hundreds of Zins and my all time favorite is the 2003 Rosenblum “Rock Pile Road” Zinfandel. Close behind is the 2003 Buehler Vineyards Zinfandel and the 2004 Norman “Mephestopoles” Zinfandel.
