Loving Daily Grape, GV. This is the first WLTV episode I’ve watched since it came out. Wanted to go OLD school.

QOTD: Imaginary story: yesterday, I walked into Wally’s to say hello to Manuel, their Italian buyer. Lo and behold, there was Gary, doing his own zoomie zooms with the wine bottles. I got to taste some Palo Lato Chard with him and shoot the s*** with him about all the great wine stores in the world and how I’m loving his new show. I bought him a bottle of Chinon to taste and then hit the road.

QOTD: While I am from the great state of Wisconsin (aka the Tundra), I have no cool stories about meeting random Vayniacs while walking through the woods… Sounds like a poem by Robert Frost to me…

In any case, I’ve been mentioning your efforts to work associates, and also friends who enjoy wine.

What I’ve learned is that there are lots of wine enthusiasts out there, and new enthusiasts at that (myself included), so it’s a wonderful thing to be able to refer fellow wine fans to a great resource such as this.

The show is much appreciated, and glad to know that my fellow Badgers are not just drinkin’ Miller Lite.

  • QOTD: During the Vayniac t-shirt contest I had put up a paper at work (a wine and cheese shop) asking people to go watch and vote for me so that I could win a trip to Napa…. ๐Ÿ™‚ One of my customers looked at it and said “Hey, yeah, I watch that too.” and I got ridiculously excited, started trying to talk with him frantically… but, it turned out, he was not a Vayniac per-se, more of a casual viewer. So, it may not have been a match, but it was nice to finally find a random person who watched WLTV.

  • Still here….still watching….but it can’t just be the Ron Dayne Show (Thunder). We need a little Tiki Barber (Lightening) as well. Mix it up.

plum wrapped in bacon & cooked in the microwave.
I put it in a tupperware dish to contain the explosion.
That will be the closest I get to tasting a Pichon Lalande
    interesting taste, indeed

    Hi Gary,

great choice of wines for the show but……….. 26 plus minutes is getting too long. Whatever happened to those 15 minute Thunder shows????

What would be a cool theme is to compare a similar rated wine from different towns of Bordeaux to compare and contrast the predominant flavor characteristics of each, say a Margaux, St Estephe, Pauillac and St Julien (maybe even a Pessac-Leognan).

    Karl B.

    Gary, heyo!
Can you contact a restaurant in advance, order the wine, and have them decant it? Say 3 for 4 hours in advance? The decanting episode is key, and I’ve been tasting wine un-decanted, and decanted and have noticed the drastic changes. I hate going to restaurants and have the wine experience suffer, do to lack of time in the decanter, even if the wine is only 40$. Have you ever done this? Ever heard of anyone doing this? Will restaurants refuse? Umm.. what else, good show, enjoyed it much. And my girlfriend nailed the eggplant comment right before you said it.Loyal, ex- lurkers indiana and ces

QOTD: Well, I’ve got two WLTV T-shirts, both wristbands, and wear them all proudly. I also have been getting asked by everyone what my wristbands are for, and I just say “it’s the best show you’ll ever find if you want to learn a little something about wine. TV.Winelibrary.com. Check it out.” Only being in LA for a couple of days, I’m waiting to hear about how those new viewers like BIG G. and being part of changing the wine world. Cheers, my friend.

Gary, just started watching, and you are reinvigorating my passion. I am one of three wine geeks at the restaurant I work at and do a lot of staff ed. I think I am going to show the staff some clips to reteach us how to taste.

I was cleaning out the lobby at work and decided to bring home some of the old magazines to read. Read the article about your show in Time magazine. As someone who was a bartender and server for a decade and someone who loves wine, I figured your show would be good for me to watch, and it sounded like it could be entertaining as well. IT WAS AWESOME! My Husband loved it too! We’re flat broke right now, but I can’t wait until we can purchase some of your recommendations. We’ll be watching daily, but we download the podcast – it’s easier for us that way, but that also means it’s a lot more work for us to come comment on EVERY show. So we’ll be some of those dreadfull lurkers, but don’t worry, if we ever stop loving the show we’ll let you know.

sincere and authentic Pauillac! time for Free Shipping so i can mix a case of Baron and Lalande! who cares about an Iphone – we want FS!!!

QotD: totally fun run up Howell Mtn with Justin, you were invited. great day made so much better by your show.

  • WineChuck

Liked the pencil comment on the nose – Port Orford Cedar. Very special stuff. Check it out. I lurk no more, sorry. Once had a cat by the name of Lurk.

Contest? Quiz from facts combed from past episodes. Maybe “Quiz of the day”. Keep score. Top score wins after “x” episodes. Still tied, sudden death. Put top 20 +/- on a list on the website.

Keep up the winning and wineing!

About freaking time!!! Fruit BomB lovers, LEAVE THE ROOM! I love F-B-L-L-T-R wines! Bordeaux shows here why it is king. History, tradition, and quality. Would love to see you do a St-Julien episode. My favourite Left-Bank appellation. Hella consistency. How about Gloria, Beychevelle, Branaire-Ducru, and Ducru-Beaucaillou. THAT would be a killer episode.

I witheld my comment on #300 as punishment for the: “you seriously like this guy?” glare I got from each of my unitiated friends when you broke into song!

Oh well! Next time you can include another bottle in the pack for loosening up the crowd before the show. Sort of the “fluffer” wine, if you will ๐Ÿ˜›

    Keep Changing the Wine World.

These “horizontal” tasting episodes are the way to go !!! They keep FOCUS on a region and/or year, really ideal !

On a recent 04 Bdx BLIND tasting I attended, Pichon Baron 04 was “2nd place”, behind Le Gay 04 only. Cheval Blanc 04 was 3rd (too young, but will surpass both in 10 years).

    Pls do more HORIZONTALS !!!

Simply awesome show! There is nothing – I mean, NOTHING – that can compare with great Bordeaux for my palate. I loved this show!! I got jazzed watching GV get excited about the wines – it’s a beautiful thing. ๐Ÿ™‚

QOTD: My personal favorite WLTV story actually happened a couple of weeks ago. I was playing softball in a Sunday church league and wearing my WLTV wrist band. After the game, one of the guys on the other team stopped me and said, “I LOVE that show!”. We’re making friends in the wine world, too! (Important factoid: Yes, my team won the game 23-15.)

    Gary,
Keep up the amazing work. Iรข??m learning a lot. We have about 1000 wines in our cellar. My husband is great at describing wines (he keep note books of all wines we drink and refers back to them a year later when we try the same one) but I struggle to find the words to describe. You are a great teacher for wines now I can go down to the cellar and pick out a wine I use to just pick it out by the label.

    Peace,
    Brook

    Hey Gary,

Picho Baron rules. As Estournel. I’m not a great Contesse Lanande fan, but it is also a very decent bottle.

Congrats on the episode. You have no idea how much those things cost down here in Brazil. At least 5 times more than in the US…. It’s depressing..

    Cheers,

First off, GV, good to see you injecting a touch of realism into your Jets mania. Great to be a fanatic but being blinded by fanaticism gets old, and boring, fast. The wines were interesting and as always, the show is better when you truly are into the wines (funnier when you hate them, but…).

QOTD: Dinner at some friends house on Saturday. I brought the wine and this started a conversation that worked its way towards WLTV. One of my friends had a friend who interviewed “the owner of Wine Library”. I asked if it was Sasha Vaynerchuk. They said that the name sounded familiar and that he was a “total media whore”. “OK. That was GARY Vaynerchuk. He’s the guy that does WLTV, the video blog that I always watch”. No way your dad comes off like that!

2004 and 2001 are the vintages the discerning buyer will pursue rather than the 2005.
QOTD: I emailed a friend to watch the last Amarone episode, went to his home for dinner that weekend. He opened an Allegrini because he disagreed with your low score and wanted to re-taste it together…yes

First time to see the show. Great show on Pauillac #301. You should offer the shows on DVD (1-100, 101-200, etc.) for review or for sale for newbies. Also you need a button where I can printout the wines for that show with ratings, pricing, and some comments. Great work.
