  • QOTD: I remember trying it at a tasting a couple of years ago, and it was pretty much uneventful for me then. I would like to try a few more since I think that I may appreciate it more now.

    Good ep. GV.

QOTD: I’ve had Barolo and Barbaresco, even Barbera, but noooo Dolcetto. However…today’s show convinced me – to try some – now! THX!

  • KimG

Great tip to go for Dolcettos. I will hunt one down as soon as I get the chance! Misleading name, though…

Gary, I have never tried a Dolcetto, but very soon, I will seek them out. I really enjoy Italian reds, and I am looking forward to finding some of this. Thanks!

  • Hey Gary, great show as usual.

QOTD: The only Dolcetto I’ve drunk on a regular basis is the Australian Dolcetto/Syrah blend made by the King Valley producer Brown Brothers. A very light style that is often served slightly chilled. I reckon it’s about perfect for breakfast on a hot Australian day, though it’s a huge hit with my girlfriend anytime.

Buying a dolcetto next trip to the store. I still like V. Testaverde, how can you not root for a 67 year old man still playing football.

Great ep, Gary – thanks – and please, sniffy-sniff the wine, what is this smell stuff?? How about tasting a few Barbera D’Alba’s? Would like to hear your take on those …

QOTD: Bruno Giacosa Dolcetto D’Alba Falletto!

  • Headed to the store TODAY for a some action with the little sweet one.

In Italy Piedmonte is my favorite area so I’m happy to try something I’ve overlooked that’s tasty, affordable, and tasty (not an error). Thank u once a again Gary ‘Always Brings the Thunder’ Vaynerchuk.

Thunder Show, indeed. Thanks for the schooling. Business dinner tomorrow, looking forward to putting some of what you’ve taught to practical use on the co.’s dime (but I’ll be going at a higher price point than the Dolcetto)

    Secret revealed!

    I’ve got it!

    Chief,

    TOT SER?

    Would you believe, anagram?

    (Cone of silence lowers)

Would you believe we’re all getting $723.61 worth of TORTES from WL’s gourmet dept., YESSSSS!

    Am I warm? No, huh?

Would you believe you’ve scraped up some OTTERS from Rte 78 and you’ll be distributing roadkill to expand the collective Vayniac palate?

What did I win, chief? (please let it be a weekend with 99)

QOTD: Not yet, but I will.

…and before anyone pooh poohs my theory I did rewatch 212 and Gary did reference roadkill as a good pairing with the 2004 Villard Gallets Blanc Cote Rotie.

This was a nice episode, very informative. Looking at the earlier posts, I can see why you have to ‘play’ to the under 30 crowd.

This was a SUPERB episode — destined to become a WLTV classic.

QOTD: no, I have never even heard of Dolcetto before today. And given my meager budget (thanks to the alinomy), it is smack damn-dabbledydoo in my price range. I will be buying some tomorrow, right after I get off work.

    Caw! Caw! (sept 16)

Great episode – it’s always appreciated when you highlight some of the lesser known grapes. Dolcetto is now on my must buy and try list.

  • Grape Expectations

Here’s my two cents for today. (Running total for the week, four cents.)

QOTD: I don’t believe I’ve ever had a dolcetto. However, I’m going to Italy in a couple of weeks and while I won’t exactly be in Piemonte, I’ll be close. So I think I will save my initial dolcetto experience for the native soil from which it springs.

  • Nice ending…. feeling a bit like a memorial show ending, but hey – enjoyed it! Definately made me want to check out a couple shows that I missed!!!

QOTD: I like Dolcetto, I like Sicilian wines best, but have only had a handful of Dolcettos. So… No names in front of me at the moment.

Ps- Amarone rocks …. some ripasso do, bring the Thunder!

i-phone idea: Maybe you could have a contest where people create an intro for you to your Thunder-Show, then whichever one you pick gets the i-phone as a quasi-payment. At least then the winner totally earns it.

Drinking: Michael & David Phillips, Incgnito 05 – Holy High Acohol Content!

So Gary, the big announcement (after you referenced ep.212) is that all wines will be 2 bucks on Thursday. Am I even close?!?

QOTD: No Dolcetto, but I am a fan of its bigger brother Barolo. So I will be checking it out soon.

    Great episode as always GV!

Well I thought i would kill a few birds with one stone here.

First, a LURKER here with the Dolcetto episode being my tenth…plus a few of your past favorite episodes. I love your philosophy on wine, and consider it crucial in educating new consumers of wine. New winedrinkers have been recently bombarded by mass marketing campaigns of unworthy juice drinks with some alcohol, dare I say one…Ye*****ail. (bleeped because it’s considered a bad word in my apartment). Unfortunately this advertising blitz is not only being listened to, but being followed. It’s nice to see a genuine interest in wine, and more importantly a genuine interest in delivering a accurate and unbiased (sorta ;-p) knowledge to all consumers.

Second, I just wanted to say thank you for what you are doing. Having just recently passed my first Sommelier course with the SSA in NYC, I find your blog a great transition until I start my courses with the ASA in January. Not only are you refreshing my memory….but inspiring and educating me on many new elements, concepts, and themes of the wine world. I give the blog site not only to my employees and friends, but to as many patrons of the restaurant to which I manage in midtown.

Third, the QOTD! I have tasted Dolcetto in the past at tastings but never have really consumed a bottle with a meal and for my own enjoyment. Watching the blog and smelling the preperation of Camanelle with meatsauce by roomates gave me a great idea! I strolled around the corner of my apartment in queens and purchased Docetto D’Alba by Perincance, a 2005 with 13.5%. I opened and decanted in my oversized platic Mets cup, then enjoyed the first glass with the pasta. Sad to say the way too overly spiced pasta destroyed the wine, but at first thought it reminded me of a young beaujolais. The second glass to which I am enjoying now really gives the wine justice. Your right on with the Walla Walla refernece. This wine remeinds me of some northern climate California pinot’s as well as most definitely many of Oregon’s boutique pinot’s to which people pay up to $70.00 for. Thanks to your blog I am going to keep my eye on Dolcettto for my guests as a great transition wine at my next meal. An excellent price point…this bottle was only $13.95!!!
