  • Last comment I ragged on picky people, but boom boom fruit bombs from downunder are a group of wines I need to try more of.

Only thing is the high scores rock the house but those money bomb prices aren’t gonna cut it for this POH bastard.

  • Enjoyed the show. When I hear “shiraz”, I think $8 wine served at the Chamber of Commerce monthly mixer. It’s great to see and hear about the high end stuff from Oz.

I guess Penfold’s Grange is the standard. I’ve never tasted any of the wines you blinded tonight. I’m amazed at the high score vs. price by Parker for these obviously high end wines. Since Australia is foreign wine territory to me it gives me more confidence to look these up and give them a try. I have heard that Australia is food challenged but their wine is charging hard. I spend more time in the Cotes du Rhone which still makes more syrah then the Aussies. I also am of the opinion that blends make a wine rounder, more complex and balanced and that takes experience and time. Some Vin de Pays are blending Cabernet/Syrah like the Aussies in a berry meets pepper blend.

One thing that I always forget to ask is do you get taste fatigue after tasting so many wines like you did in Idaho? I was shocked to read a quote by Robert Parker that said he has tasted 300,000 wines. You would think that would pickle his tongue and leave it blue like likamaid used to. Your nose readings are so sensitive compared to mine that I want to grab the glass from the monitor and say I’ll have what he’s having!

I am not a lurker!! LOVE the show. Every day can’t wait to see what silly things you will do to ‘bring the THUNDER’ to us. What happened to the ‘sniffy sniff’? You have me saying that all the time now. That was SO unique, bring back the SNIFFY SNIFF !

I know, I know forget the scores trust your own… But why would I look at these Australian Shiraz rather than the 2004 and 2001 Bordeaux from earlier this week? I guess ther is more to wine than just a Q/P ratio.

is it my computer or your system, but i had it downloaded then it stopped 3/4 of the way through… wuz up?
anyhow, not much experience with aussi fruit bombs, but you said that the one wine was from the chapoutier people, like michele and he rocks my world. so curious. my guess is that the wine showing charcoal, “paris smoking a pipe” which we have seen before, is chapoutiers wine. he is no lollypop licker.
QOTD: by the looks of comments, you might have put the question in our hands for you? if so, why not have a wine or two with a real wine dinner. first course scallops with cream and butter paired with X and a leg of lamb with Y. maybe a little desert action aka sauterne

Gary just wanted to tell you that I got my latest copy of Business 2.0 in the mail the other day and finally read the article on Fred Franzia. Before I even read the article I was wondering what you thought about Fred and as I was reading the article they you are with a comment. Great comment by the way, put those fools in their place. Keep up the good work and you’ve converted this Goose drinker to a wine lover again.

    woohoo top 150 again! Yes!!!!

like the blind bags. Good to hear comments without you knowing the labels. WOuld like to see more blind tastings.
WOTD – You are going to work for Wine Spectator. You sold yourself to “the man”.

  • John Farrin

Interesting! However when we throw in QPR vs 2005 futures from Bordeaux maybe the pricier Aussies don’t come off so well. I know it’s all apples and oranges but still…

QOTD: You’ve purchased the New York Jets 🙂
