I wish we had .99 bottles of wine, like they do in europe. Yea it’d be bad, but think of how much you could sample without denting your wallet.

Kahuna and TDP on a roll today!

I’d give you my love, Mott, except I feel like I hardly know you. 🙁

QOD – Love the Cab F’s of the Loire. New world Cab Franc = not so much.

got to appreciate the effort, but there’s something about a silk purce and a pig’s ear going on here

Don’t they call it “Cabanay FRAWNK” in that wretched accent? It could be worse — at least it’s not the nails-on-a-“chawkbawd” way they “speak” up in Boston.

Possibly my favorite ep of all time. A delirious GV is a special thing to watch. ‘Cows driving cars’ (!)
Fun fact: cab sauv is a cross of cab franc and sauv blanc. UC Davis tells me so.

How about some love for the VA cab franc? It’s a lot better than the LI stuff! Check out Barboursville, Valhalla, and Chrysalis!

  • Mott participates in god’s work. That makes him a demi-god, no? Or something.

QOTD: I’ve had numerous Canadian Cab Francs, mostly from the Okanagan. I used to be a fan. But they’re all over the map vintage-wise, and are generally…tannic and vapid. I’m gonna crack me a Chinon tomorrow to compare.

Long Island wines go 2 for 3 from GV, not bad. Good to see LI making an appearance on the Thunder show. BTW, isn’t it about time New York Wines get their own category on the Wine Library website? It’s impossible to see what you guys have in stock!!! I want to make Brandon drink one for the next WOTM, but I don’t know what my choices are! 😉

    Gotta luv the Anti!

QOTD: Many and most from Long Island. Personal faves: Shinn, Wolffer, Corey Creek, Jamesport

QOTD: Yes, I love the Franc.
And by the way, these keep getting better, GV may be getting loopy by osmosis. Kind of fun to watch.

I’ve got ~30 bottles of Cab Franc in my cellar right now. Okay, so it’s ‘homebrew’ wine from Winexpert, but that counts, right?!!?

What ever happened to the Gravatars? The icons still hyperlink to the gravatar site, but my gravatar ain’t showing up any more.

Had the Wolffer at the roadside stand they have. It was nice. I found it had a mineral quality that went down well.

  • Nice to see focus on an American region that despite its supoosed obscurity, is coming up and can offer some nice wines.

  • I’ve only had 3 or 4 cab francs (all american), and didn’t care for any of them. The last one I had was 2 years ago at Beringer in Napa. It was so ungodly smoky that I haven’t tried one since. I’ll have to seek out one from Long Island.

Been big into Cab Franc lately–mostly from Chinon. Perfect with veggie chili.

Mott, doesn’t it bug you when Vaynerchuk calls you by your last name? I’m waiting for a muffled “the name’s Chris” from behind the lens…

QOTD – I’ve had loads!!! Cab Franc is one of my favourites as well, had a nice easy drinking Bourgueil last week and really enjoyed it. Last year’s Loire vacation sealed my love of that and Chinon (Saumur Champigny’s not that bad either).

Interesting to hear about the Wölffer, I picked up a bottle of the 1998 when I was in D.C. earlier this year and from your description of the ’03 I only hope those firm tannins were in the ’98 as well – I had it down for a “drink by 2009”, maybe I’ll get to it earlier based on this show.

PS – Love the Mottster 🙂

QOTD: Tried about 5 and love them. Have 12 in the cellar now and it all started with the Chiens Chiens Chinon from Episode 36. Recently had a 1996 Samuele Cab Franc from California given to me by a friend in 2001, which friend is now deceased. Great wine, glad I cellared it so long, and great remembering him while drinking it with my wife, family, and friends – truly what wine is all about.

QOTD: Tasted a bunch at the Vintage Virginia Wine Festival in June; Bought one bottle that I really enjoyed. I also remember having a few Cab Franc Roses, and I remember buying one from a wine store and enjoying it.

  • QOTD: I’ve had a few 100% Cab. Francs… the 2005 Frederic Mabileau Saint-Nicolas-de-Bourgueil Les Rouilleres, the 2005 Damien Laureau Anjou Clos Frémur, the Vinideus Cabernet Franc to name a few… The Vinideus was the only one that I liked. That Bourgueil that you loved so much was just too darn vegetal for me. Cab. Francs are too vegetal in general for me. I never did eat my vegetables growing up (I threw up in third grade when the cafeteria worker made me eat at least two bites my green beans before I could be excused for recess), so maybe that’s why? But I love asparagus and broccoli and others now… So I don’t know. But I generally really don’t like wines that taste like vegetables. Which is odd, because I love most old world wines, and love things that are really stinky. I DO like these juices you can get that are made of 100% vegetable juice, though. Weird… to me, the wines taste like rotten vegetables, not fresh ones. I have a few 100% cab francs left, but I think I’ll let them live in the cellar for a few years; I may eventually develop a taste for them.
