I had a big wine and cheese pairing party at my house, so I’ll give you the two NEW wines I tried there: Traminette by New York winery Goose Watch and a Leon Millot from a Vermont winery.

OMG, you’re gonna meet Ellen DeGeneres and make her eat dirt and sweaty socks? That is awesome! Tell her I said “Hi!”

QOTD: Duval Leroy Champagne and A to Z Pinot Noir

  • cgatesman

    QOTD:
    2005 Riff Pinot Grigio

Another good episode, I like the topic, being in the CKC and all.

QOTD: Simon Hackett 2004 Semillon – quite forgetable

Concha Y Toro Xplorador Central Valley 2005 Carmenere – I really enjoyed this as well as its price point

  • Moselman

OTD: 1 – 2006 Alamos Malbec – actually pretty good first night, better second night. Slightly mollified my distaste for Malbec. Will try the ’05 Pascual Toso Maipu Mendoza next.

2- Friends brought a Gray Fox Chardonnay ’06. I shuddered, but was quite pleasantly surprised. Not what I’d call oaky, label makes no mention either way. We all enjoyed it, so all’s well.

“Not atrocious” – high praise indeed. Better leave the Bogle behind when you meet Ellen.

  • QOTD – I’ll give you the last three
Strub NB Kabinett 2005 – rich, peachy, but not enough acidity to cover the sweetness
Vionta Albarino 2006 – Crisp, but with weight on the mouthfeel, without the oakiness. Has a slight bitter nut skin flavor. Good deviation from the standard whites.
Bogle RRV Pinot 2005 – Pop & pour. Average, not bad, not that smooth, kind of thin. Not up to the hype. Maybe would have improved with air.

tomorrow – making a Thai dinner, having Christoffel UW Spatlese 2005. That will be some good stuff!

Thanks for doing the budget wines this week – those of us who don’t have expense accounts (i.e. the self-employed) really appreciate it! Not that I don’t like to splurge once in a while…

QOTD: Tegernseerhof 2006 Zweigelt Rose (from Kremstal, Austria) and Ipsum 2006 from Rueda, Spain (60% Verdejo, 40% Viura) – both were new varietals for me – yay for exploration!

Unfortunately, nothing in the last few days – have a nasty cold which prevents me from smelling much of anything…

    Hey Gary,

I have to ask – after swallowing that much gum do you blow bubbles when you fart? (sorry for that).

    Congrats on Ellen.

Glad to hear us small order Vayniac cab customers have a shot at the blending!!

    QOTD –

2004 Plum Creek Riesling from Colorado. You should see about getting wine from this producer. Fooled everyone at a blind tasting who thought is was a Mosel riesling. Bought it in Winter Park, CO. Really nice.

QOTD: 2005 Winery at LaGrange Meritage (Virginia), 2005 Chateau du Gris (Bordeaux). The VA wine was actually better than the Bordeaux but it better be for the price point.

Forgot to tell you yesterday that I loved the Lurker T. I’ll have to get a bunch for all the folks I know who are lurkers. Did I miss something about why you’re not rating wines this week? It was obvious you were in a much better mood.

QOTD:1. 2005 â?? Domaine de la Garrigue â??Cuvee Romaineâ?, Cotes du Rhone
Pazzzzzzz! Thin, bitter tannins, the type of wine that (to me) gives grenache a bad name.

    2. 2005 â?? Lirac Alain Jaume â??Clos de Sixteâ?, Rhone
Very nice and I think it will be even better in 2-3 years

QOTD: Last two wines I had: 1) ’05 Enguera Dis Tinto (50% tempranillo, 50% Syrah) – surprisingly yummmmy; and 2) ’05 Altano Douro – simply maaahvellous, my dear! Spain & Portugal are seriously kicking butt…and they’re most affordable, too!

The last two wines I had was Red Flyer 2003 California Red Table Wine and 2003 Rosemount Estate Mudgee Hill of Gold Cabernet. Really like the inexpensive wine shows. We should get real crazy and do a box wine show.

  • Why does it say “Gary Vaynerchuk sits down with 4 more wines that come in under $13.” when there’s only three wines for today? Hmm?

QOTD: 2001 Trambusti Brunello di Montalcino and 2004 Bodegas Almanseñas Almansa La Huella de Adaras. That took up a lot of space, didn’t it?

2004 Red Said Fred – keep an eye on KAZ, they’re in with the cool kids
    2003 Landmark Overlook Chard

Why was the Wine Library out of two of the wines I ordered? Director of Operations?

  • Really enjoying the value shows! Thanks for keeping us “family guys” in mind. How about a new category: SICK (Single Income Countless Kids)? Wine for the “Family Man”!

QOTD: NV PinotEvil Pinot Noir from France, Colheita 2005 “Messias” Aragones 50%, Castelao Frances 50%, from Portugal. Both enjoyable for their “old world style”.

  • Tasted or consumed?
Drank: Francois Cazan 2005 Cour-Cheverny (Esoteric and yummy with my dinner.)
Ermita Veracruz 2005 Rueda (100% Verdejo, grassy, herby, acidic, awesome.)
