Thanks for the great compilation – a very nice Friday funshow.
For those of us that dont have Tivo, are you going to link up your appearances? Please?

Good job on Ellen.. I normally don’t mind to hear GWB speak but he almost pre-empted you here in Indianapolis but you got on just in time to catch on the DVR. I just drank the Dolcetto I bought from you last week that you had on the Ellen show. It was cotton candy all the way. Now I know why you are such a Dolcetto fan. How about a show on your hair doo’s.. that would be almost as much fun.. there have been some good styles over the past couple of years. Don’t keep us WLTV viewers waiting too long for a new show.

I don’t care what anyone says, you can disagree with me all you want the ellen show yesterday dispointed me greatly, they spent far too much time watching the little chubby kids get free chips in a an easter basket so when it came to Gary V’s spot they rushed through and cut him with a commerical break, not feeling that. I can’t say anything about jessic alba though she brought the thunder, she looked hot! Come on back Gary!

Good on ya, mate! You deserve all the media exposure you can get. Conan definitely funnier but you got the wine word out to a different demographic. Well done.

First let me say I am definitely a Vayniacs, but I think this TV act is not good. I was OK on Conan, but just didn’t work on Ellen. I think your goal is to educate people, in an entertaining way, about wine. I think the average viewer of Ellen would conclude that you are suppose to eat strange things before tasting wine. I love the episode where you taught people how to train their palate and explained what wine each flavor matched. But here it seems like your suppose to eat those things and then wash them down with similiar wine. Very confusing.

I don’t think you came off good here–just as some weirdo who eats dirt and cigar. When going onto the “average” media I would first explain you concept and then just smell the objects.

Note that you didn’t really even get across the concept of how important the sniffy sniffy is, though you mentioned in it passing. It become just eat things then immediately drink wine.

Again, I love your show and what you are doing for the wine world. Just refine your act.

Gary…I loved the square dancing comment (it’s so true) and the Oak Monster is classic, love it!

It would have been nice to see Ellen step up with the dirt…maybe next time

By the way, I have to add that I don’t think I got the same bottle of Pinot Gris you did for the A to Z 2006 (episode 312). Maybe I need to get used to it, but that wine tasted exactly like a Franzia chablis box wine I took on a backpacking trip. Not only that, but after two glasses and enjoying the mushroom salad I found myself planting some cultures in the nearby bathroom as well. Don’t tell me it got corked, it’s got a screw top. Gehh… On the other hand you might surprise yourself with that Franzia chablis, could be the steal of the century.

    Hi Gary,

Did not get to catch the Ellen show, hope it went well. I did see the Conan appearance and am a little concerned. You are doing the right thing, trying to teach the appreciation of wine to generations of folks living outside the ivory tower of the Parkers, Tanzers, Molesworths and Laubes of the world. I just don’t want to see your mission become a sideshow act. I wholeheartedly agree that you can’t say that a wine tastes like wet leather if you don’t know what wet leather tastes like. However, these hosts and their kin often are only seeking to get a laugh, perhaps at your expense.

That being said, today’s montage gave me an idea for an episode. Sit down separately with 3 or 4 different Vayniacs to taste the same 2 or 3 wines. After discussing each of them with you for a minute or two, splice the segments together and see how different wines may be to each person tasting them. Maybe the opportunity to participate arises out of a contest?

Keep up the good work. You clearly enjoy what you do for a living.
