Vaynerism’s – Special Episode

After Gary’s appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show we thought it would be a good time to look back at how we got here.

    Hi Gary,

Did not get to catch the Ellen show, hope it went well. I did see the Conan appearance and am a little concerned. You are doing the right thing, trying to teach the appreciation of wine to generations of folks living outside the ivory tower of the Parkers, Tanzers, Molesworths and Laubes of the world. I just don’t want to see your mission become a sideshow act. I wholeheartedly agree that you can’t say that a wine tastes like wet leather if you don’t know what wet leather tastes like. However, these hosts and their kin often are only seeking to get a laugh, perhaps at your expense.

That being said, today’s montage gave me an idea for an episode. Sit down separately with 3 or 4 different Vayniacs to taste the same 2 or 3 wines. After discussing each of them with you for a minute or two, splice the segments together and see how different wines may be to each person tasting them. Maybe the opportunity to participate arises out of a contest?

Keep up the good work. You clearly enjoy what you do for a living.

Hey Gary, I TIVO’d Ellen and when I started watching and saw the President on, I literally yelled “Oh No!!!!” Luckily I fast forwarded and you were still on. I TIVO’d Ellen again today and it was great of her to talk about you again. Her producer Kara in rehearsal was hilarous…I really thought she was going to throw up!

Classic line by Jessica Alba: “(Wine Tasting)..it’s just a very organized way to get drunk”.

God, that last appeal was all it took. Also… I’m manning the computer at work study. One lurker, emerging from the depths of Boston.

  • Asparagus “pee” is a classic phrase in our house. Glad to know we aren’t the only ones!

Keep on “sniffy-snif”-ing, give them all ” a whirl” and remember to be true to yourself. Anyone can be a critic but it is much more important to be real and authentic. Let it flow off you like water off a duck. (Hey, too corny? I’m from MN.)

    Hey Gary…long time, no post!
Congrats on your successes….you and the wine library crew work VERY hard and deserve all the recognition and respect that you’ve all been, hopefully, getting.
This episode sums up some of my greatest experiences in watching every single one of your shows. Moreover, I think that thanks is in order because in watching your show, you’ve not only taught me how to describe characteristics in wine, but also shown me how to create excitment in wine! The only thing better than seeing the look on a person’s face when I describe a wine is seeing the excitment they, the customer, get when trying new wines/varietals. I love working in the wine industry and I think a lot of that is due to you, your crew, and your show, so thank you.

Gary – been catching up. A while ago we discussed the possibility of a show comparing the same wine in two samples: one that had just been in a truck bouncing around for a week during shipping, and one that had been allowed to settle for, dare I say it, 3 MONTHS before drinking. I just had occasion the other night to open a wine I had previously drunk a bottle of when it arrived (3 months ago) and it was WAY superior to the dissappointing disjointed wine it had seemed to be just a few weeks earlier. As many of your customers have their wine shipped to them from WL, maybe you could still do this comparison somehow we had originally talked about a while (a year and a half?) ago!!

Reserve lurker as in laid back not “all I drink is the expensive stuff”.

By the way Ian does a GREAT job over their. I’ve been buying from him for many years. I was happy to see his cameo on the day of the big announcement. By the way do you guys sometimes do your hair together in the same mirror?

I have only been watching the show for a couple of months now but it has become one of my go to/ habitual tonics to relieve the stress of a manic work day.

I’d like to request that you do another barolo episode soon and mix in some of the lesser expensive ones.

    Keep up the good work.
