Yummmm Port! But come on man, what’s with the subdued intro?! QOTD: not sure of the name but it was a baseball game that I would sit on the couch and be the ‘announcer’ while my cousins played

  • I LOVE ports, I have a lot cellaring, but in the meantime I do enjoy some nice crusted ports and LBVs to pass the time while my VPs mature. I do find that decanting them for 24 hours is the way to go. It really does soften them and takes the sting out of the high ABV.

SUPER Tecmo Bowl (by far #1), Ninja Gaiden series, Castlevania series. Those were/are my favs.

Mikey T’s Punch Out…. No doubt!

I have not had Porto in a while. I’m going to have to pick some up.

QOTD: Baseball Stars. Everybody except me and my best friend at the time (7,8 years old) was playing RBI baseball, but we discovered this one that was superior and incredibly addictive. High quality for its time.

Great episode, ports are exciting and confusing!

    QOTD: Bubble Bobble

I’m a bit ashamed to admit it, but I scored some really cheap ‘port’ about a year ago just to have some fun with, and boy was it terrible. The first bottle was corked, and the next bottle wasn’t much better. On a side note my room mate at the time drank the corked cheapo port and didn’t bat an eye. The discount put it down to about the price of ‘2 buck chuck’ and the hefty alcohol content of port made for some good times…

Is this sort of markdown and clearance typical of the port industry? A bad batch just gets sold on the cheap to college kids looking to get drunk?

Nice episode. I’m shocked but excited to hear there’s value in vintage port. Now I just need to get a better paying job 🙂

QOTD: Can’t pick just one… Super Mario Bros. 1, Zelda 1, Punch Out & Tecmo Bowl are near the top of the list.

Classic pairing show, its hard to impress upon people how enjoyable port and cheese are if they’ve never tried. Pure luxury, and Roaring Forties is killer stuff.

QOTD: Metroid without a doubt on and on, getting lost in the repetitive stages. Oh the memories

Port – have always had the prune juice meets nyquil experience, but believe it was due to piss poor selection based on zero knowledge. Thanks for a little port education.

    QOTD- Gotta be Mario Bros

Strange you did this topic today. I just got a bottle of 1983 Vintage Port from Cachao from my Grandmothers house that just sold and wondered about the year. Glad to hear it was a pretty good one. Will crack this open at the end of my career as well.

By the way, the camera and the new lighting (sorry, professional camera man here) are awesome. You and the “set” look great. Very nice job.

    Gary,

You make it sound like part of the reason Port is so expensive is that it is cellared. Ports are released by the producer relatively early, and mostly cellared by the consumer. The best marketing strategy imaginable.

Hey, my comments are finally showing up! They’ve been disappearing into the ether all week. I thought maybe WLTV had it out for me or something.

QOD: Raiders of the Lost Ark, for the Atari 2600. Hey, it was the shiznit in 1982 and I never had a Nintendo.

Aussie blue cheese? So I’m thinking it ships okay.

If I really wanted to, I’ve got a few episodes’ worth of comments to catch up on, but I don’t want Gary e-yelling at me.

Here’s to #10 bringing home the bacon this weekend.

    mmmmmmmm. Port.

I have also found that an open bottle of port will last a long time too. Been sipping from a bottle that I opened in March, and it there has been no loss in quality.

QOTD: I had a lot of laughs getting the snot kicked out of me by my (at the time) young son in James Bond. My favorite game was Mario Golf though. That was a game that a non-video gamer could do OK at without looking really bad.

I have been waiting for an episode on Port. Now one for Sherry. Next time explain some of the differences in the types – Tawny, etc.

It would help to do some affordable ones also. Not that these are not, I just don’t spend that much on them.

Too old for Nintendo. My girls had a Sonic – Hedgehog. Great fun!!
