Yummmm Port! But come on man, what’s with the subdued intro?! QOTD: not sure of the name but it was a baseball game that I would sit on the couch and be the ‘announcer’ while my cousins played

QOTD: This might hurt, Gary, but I was hands-down a SEGA kid! That’s right, and I’ll stick to that position. However, my favorite game was also available on Super Nintendo, and as I’m a bit younger and got into video games a little later in the game, Mortal Kombat II is it. All the special moves, codes, and “fatalities” started a whole new level of game playing.

Best nintendo game ever in almost all regards is The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of TIme. A little new for a lot of old school nintendophiles but it revolutionized the videogame industry. Seriously, it practically saved the ill-conceived n64. But if you’re referring to NES games, I’d have to say Mike Tyson’s Punch Out!. It is the epitome of old school gaming. Of course Chrono Trigger is a tremendous answer, greatest RPG ever made.
Oh yeah, I like wine too. Tonight it’s Les Clossiers Chateauneuf du Pape 2004. Got it for five bucks, take that Chuck!

Thanks for doing port. I was helped to start appreciating sherry and port not so long ago. Loads to learn as well as tastes fantastic. And they’re relatively good value.

    QOTD: Never had a nintendo.

great to see an episode on port/ porto. i was in lisbon a few years ago, and well, that is all there is. the lady at the port store said the white porto is for the tourists. anyhow, i walked home with a bottle of Burmester 1994, colheita. i recently just drank it with friends and the robe was just a lot more ” aged” than the ones you just drank. it was a real amber, mahogany orange like color. almost like an old sauterne. wuz up?
i have to disagree with the blue cheese. we had it with some roquefort and it just did not jive. granted the flavor profile was leaning towards roasted nuts, candied fruit, caramel; i wished that we had some almond cake with it and maybe even some fresh whipped cream. the cheese was not bad, but a dry cake would have been better.

QOTD: i have a few, “mike tyson’s punch out”,” transylvania?”, “T & C surf” and even just some classic super mario.

QOTD: Super Contra, and who doesn’t love punching the shizznickle out of the French guy in Mike Tyson’s Punch Out??? I love France and French people don’t get me wrong, but the facial expression when you upper cut him is classic. And I could play Spyhunter forever even though the arcade version kicked much more serious ass.

I love port, porto, portatiliano…however you say it.

  • GARY YOU MAKE ME HAPPY – GO AUSTRALIA

I have to agree that King Island Dairy Co, who make ‘Roaring 40s’, produce some of Australiaâ??s best commercial cheese; as well as absolutely awesome yogurt. Though King Island doesn’t have any wineries (though I suppose it is halfway between the Mornington Peninsula on the mainland and the Tamar Valley in Tasmania) it is definitely worth a visit. Apart from fantastic cheese on King Island you’ll also get some of the best steak and crawfish in the World.

I’m a big fan of port style wines for their moorish sweetness, aging potential and general appeal. When purchasing in Australia imports tend to be too expensive, but there are some absolutely world class fortifieds produced in Victoria’s Rutherglen area, which could possibly even go better with a fine hunk of Australia blue.

QOTD: The original handheld ‘lifeboat’ game I had when I was about five.

Keep up the superb and enjoy the UK.

Gary, you rock! Can’t afford any of today’s wines, but am looking forward to trying some ports soon.

QOTD: TETRIS, hands down on any system. Although, I do enjoy the Mario games they’re always my second faves.

Why why why is it when you love a wine it gets sold out so damn fast before I can grab some. 🙂
Great episode, thanks. I don’t think I ever played Nintendo games. I’m a Playstation guy.

I love ports, have had a number of Graham’s from 1985 and 1983 along with some Taylor from 1970. Just need to decant them usually quite a bid of sediment. Once decanted I have had it for up to a week after opening, it did not seem to oxidize as quickly as other red wines.

QOTD: Excitebike. That game was bad ass. And by the way, cheer up Gary! At least you have the good fortune of being able to watch football on a regular basis. I live in a country where the game has not caught on, so it is not broadcast with any frequency whatsoever. Which could actually be any country outside of the US.
