Great ep, GV! Thanks for doing the often request cali. cab – especially now that the Vayniac fruit is coming in!

QOTD: I will be at a Vayniac Camp at Crushpad on Saturday and possibly there on Sunday as well to sort fruit. Maybe even pick up a Justin Paso Robles cab to take on Saturday!

    Sensei,

Certainly wasnt a relaxed Friday (little jumpy) but you did a good show and I think all will appreciate that the wines you did today are widely distriubuted and easy to find. I will grab some Justin and have always thought the Franciscan is a nice drinking Napa Cab for under $20 when we do not want to pull out anything more serious….

QOTD – have a couple household projects to keep moving along and getting ready for our five day trip to Sonoma/Napa which starts on Wednesday!!! Pretty excited about that! Oh, and of course will enjoy a few bottles of juice…:)

Hope you have a great weekend and for all of our sake, I hope the Jtes win! Monday/Tuesdays have been tough!….

QOTD: Saturday dinner party at a friend’s place. Said friend is opening a 1990 Lynch-Bages for dinner. Needless to say, Saturday cannot get here fast enough. Also have a Rhone tasting to go to.

  • Working all the way through the weekend except for golf Sunday morning.

I actually have tasted all of these wines at the wineries in July. the Justin is my favorite of the 4 and this is the lower end Justin. The Isoceles is their high end and even better but a much longer aging wine. The Franciscan same, they have a higher end cab that was great and this one was good. I had a better opinion of the Clos du Val but again I tasted their reserve and that was almost a good Bordeaux. I have never liked anything at Hess but their artwork. My wife makes me go because she likes their Chardonnay that I also think sucks.

Wow….I have yet to have a Cali Cab under $20 that was good for anything other than riping the label off to use to wipe my ass….seriously…that bad.
QOTD – I am heading to a friends son’s 3rd b-day party….do have a little tasting lined up with him though. We are going to have a 2001 La joie from verite and some Niagara Pinot Noir from Thirty Bench.

  • PaVo

QOTD: Drinking great wine and great beer (hopefully some belgians) and watching the Skins tear Green Bay a new…

First time poster, but I’ve only been lurking for a few weeks. Thanks for the encouragement to post and most importantly to try new wines, Gary!! You ROCK!

I’m not a big Cab fan, but I am curious to try the Justin Cab now! Will put it on the list.

QOTD: Tonight I’m going to see “The Darjeeling Limited” at the Alamo Drafthouse, which is a movie theater that serves WINE and dinner. Yay!! I plan on having some indian food and a nice red while enjoying the latest work by my favorite director, WES ANDERSON!

Tomorrow night I am attending a SARS themed 40th birthday party for a friend (since the last party at their house resulted in many peeps coming down with a modern PLAGUE). I plan on bringing a yummy Tempranillo or Malbec to keep the germs at bay!!

Much love from Austin Texas! Ever try Texas wines??

    GV,
Nice episode. Love the cabs, always nice to find a decent one for under 20 bones. How do the Jason and the Franciscan compare to the Hartig you have recommended previously?
QOTD: Watching my youngest daughter compete in the championship volleyball tournament ALL DAY Saturday. But it will be worth it! Maybe some vino after that.

QOTD: Are you kidding me? This is a huge weekend. Going to the Stars v. Flames game in about an hour. I have Texas Tech v. Texas A&M tomorrow (which has turned into a bigger deal over the past few days due to the notorious T-Shirt), then, the big one, Cowboys v. Patriots on Sunday. Two 5-0’s on the field. All that plus 2 playoff baseball series. HUGE I tell you. Sports, Wine, and Beer. I will come up for air sometime late Sunday. Speaking of. It’s Dollar Dogs tonight at the Stars game, which would make one ponder a pairing for dollar stadium dogs, but that Kendall Jackson they pour over there is BRUUUUTAAALLL. Its a Budlight night for me.

    Yawn ! Cali Cabs again…

No offense meant, Gary, just a little bit of criticism.
You have been much more versatile in earlier times.

I am helping my daughters sell Girl Guide cookies this weekend. Would any Vayniacs like to buy a box?

Thanks for another great show GV.

QOTD: I spent 14 hours power washing my cedar fence last weekend so that I can apply “5 minute fence” stain tomorrow. I sure my wife will fill the balance of the weekend with projects for me to work on.

Four friends in the kitchen making pesto …smell the garlic…it is time to harvest those basil plants. I am bringing Russian River Valley Pinot which I have not tried yet and an all time favorite of ours Carina Cellars 2003 Santa Barbara syrah. Homemade pasta with pesto anyone?

I just read Strawberrys comment about Texan wines. I would be interested to see a review.

QOTD: I am on the road, business trip, at the moment in a hotel room in San Antonio, before doing latenight site visits (9pm-3:30am) for work. Then sunday I head off to Austin for a few days to vacation with a (former girlfriend?), during which time we will sample some new wines. And hopefully, at least one of us will get lucky. Preferably both. 😉

QOTD: Easy – Tomorrow’s my 76th B’day – probably open up a Duval-Leroy “Lady Rose” Champagne to share w/my family. Today’s California Cabs show was interesting – I’ll have to get the Justin and Franciscan to compare the two styles. Thanks for all you do, Gary!

Great show. Really enjoyed Franciscan, sniffed really hard but cannot feel any coffee and strawberries, more like blueberries. Great dry wine!

Nice show on reasonably-priced CA Cabs. I will need to find the Justin.

QOTD: Dinner party for the little woman’s work associates from Alb, NM on Saturday where I can showcase some good wines. With leg of lamb I plan on popping the ’97 Dominus, a Ken Wright Oregon Pinot and with appetizers I will have a Pine Ridge Chenin Blanc and a German Riesling.

Sunday, a trip to the mountains to check out the foliage and lunch and back in time to watch the Cheats & Cowboys.

    TGIF

    Cheers!
