I didn’t realize that Frank Family was distributing now. Will have to see if they are selling into Washington State.

We visited FF in Napa about four years ago and was very impressed with their wines.

    QOTD – Half windsor.

QOTD: that is not so fair for the ladies i guess, but since i am a guy, i will have to say the windsor. in high school, our english teacher who was 80 years old taught us the windsor. it is old school classy and a mark of a gentleman. maybe, just maybe anthony barton ties a windsor. probably not, but maybe his grandaddy did.

besides that. good to see a zin show. i will be in the states for thanksgiving this year and look forward to gettin’ home with some wines from the US of A.

QOTD: I always tie myself a Half-Winsdor for formal occasions. I also made up my own knot for punky dressing, “Li Co Li Ro T” if you know knotting short-hand (big end should come out on the neck instead of at the bottom. try it on.)

I’m bummed that the SF meetup will be right in the middle of the toughest part of the semester. Hopefully, you’ll do another one in the middle of the summer.

    WOOOO!!
QOTD: THIS is a serious question for me, as I have debated it with many of my “bros”. For me, it’s gotta be the Double Windsor. Period. It’s perfectly symmetrical and more professional than the simpler “half-whatever” knots, and it’s the knot that was taught to me by my father, which was taught to him by my grandfather. So if only for family and tradition’s sake, the Double Windsor is my nonnegotiable answer!

  • QOTD: The double Windsor was the first knot I learned. And I stayed with it because it looks excellent. And yes, I know, the “double Windsor” actually is the Windsor knot. But it’s popular as the “double”, so why not call it just that?

Nice episode – I always am interested in good Zins. The Gravity Hill from last year was really good. We may have a bottle this year once again. I’ve had the Green & Red before and I have not been too impressed. The Frank Family sounds awesome and I may try and seek that one out to try as well.

QOTD: The only tie knot that I have ever done is the Windsor, so I guess by default that would have to be my “favorite”.

The Double Windsor of course… I was just about to finish grad school and begin my job search when I realized that I needed to know how to tie a great tie knot. I went to Richs (at that time, an upscale department store in Atlanta) and found a clerk in the men’s department who looked like he knew what he was doing. He was an older, butler type. Of course as a grad student, I wasn’t flush with cash, but I told him that if he could show me how to tie a nice looking knot, I would buy his most expensive tie. He did and I did! That was a great investment that I remember (and enjoy daily) to this day (I work in South Korea where most business men still wear suits and ties).

I’m totally bummed about the secret packs being sold out! I’ve been waiting for the opportunity to have one of the wines in advance. If only I had been able to watch the show yesterday.

I’m so glad you liked the Frank Family zin. This is a winery we’ve really enjoyed for many years and have visited several times. I totally agree – their zin rocks.

I never really noticed the difference between one tie knot and the double tie knot as men in today’s generation don’t really where ties as much, so the answer would be I have no clue at all, 🙂

    GV,

Happy B-day- just celebrated mine last weekend- so fellow scorpio in the hizzy. I was in Amadore County in California this past May and was at Dillian winery. Great Zin, around 20 ducketts. Small family vineyard, if you can get out there when you are in San Fran you need to try some- and bring some back to the store so I can re-supply and the other Vayniacs can get on board.
