QOTD: The best meal ever? Tough one but I would say, wild mushroom soup followed by filet of beef at the Saddle River Inn.

  • HuskerJamie

QOTD Best meal I’ve came at Corsa Cuccina at the Wynn Casino. My wife’s cousin works there and he hooked my family up with an incredible family style meal of their best apps, salads, and entrees. Their knowledgeable staff also helped by bringing us bottle after bottle of superb wine that went perfectly with the tremendous food. The grilled pizette with mushroom puree, robiola cheese, and white truffle oil was probably the highlight.

The Post Hotel in Lake Louise Canada. Just a incredible rustic/romantic setting. Had the Game plate with Elk. Was not a wino
like I am now so can’t wait to go back there as they have an amazing cellar.

    WOW!!! Fantastic Ep!

QOTD: My wife and I ate at the kitchen table at Grant Achatz restaurant Trio in Chicago. 29 courses and 13 different wines. We drove an hour in some of the worst chicago weather to get there! It was absolute magic. In the presence of a true artist!!

At David Paul’s in Maui after my wedding in February I had my best meal ever. Many courses, many wines, a great time.

QOTD: This summer I went to Italy and I had one of the most delicious steaks I have ever had. It was on the island of Ischia, the last restaurant on the port. This was clearly a seafood restaurant, but they made me a delicious steak and the wine was flowing. It was a great time.

I like it that I’m never completely sure if it’s your mother or Chris Mott.
We ordered a bottle of the St. Jean; it sounded very exciting.
QOTD: Favorite meal: at the Taos Winter Wine Festival – De La Tierra in the resort El Monte Sagrado: a Robert Mondavi Wine Dinner with Soup of Duck confit and Spanish Chorizo, Paillard of Turbot, Doding of Napa Cabbage (this course impressed us most as it was served with Pinot Noir), Mustard Crusted Rack of Elk, and Raspberry and Coconut Cream Pineapple Ravioli. The Chef, Ruben
Tanuz had left the restaurant by the next year, and we still haven’t figured out where he relocated, but we are willing to follow him.

QOTD: Pork Tenderloin Churrasco, with Aji Amarillo (Peruvian chile)- Pineapple Sauce. From Bon Appetit 09/2003. WOW!! Funny, it was a red wine (I don’t remember which one, specifically) but it was the meal AND the company (family & friends)which stole the show this time. Go figure!

QOTD – Inn at Little Washington outside D.C. Ridiculous!!!

QOTD: A small restaurant in San Francisco (Cafe Mozart). A great cut of fillet mignon with sweet Bearnaise sause. It was easily the best dinner (food, atmosphere, etc) that I can remember.

  • Great, great show and thank goodness, the Barroux isn’t sold out yet. Just placed my order.

QOTD: Les Crayeres (Chateau Boyer) in Reims, France otherwise know as Chateau Pommery. Unbelievable dinner with the little woman. I also remember having a Chardonnay by Laurent-Perrier that I had to have and though it “did not travel” I ended up contacting the winery and they were gracious and accommodated my request.

    Cheers!

P.S. Go Ravens! Beat the Cheats!

Qotd: Christmas 3 years ago we had an 8 rib standing rib roast with yorkshire pudding and plenty of wine and all the family. Awesome fun and awesome company…..the $500 bottle did pull this lurker out now back to the shadows.

QOTD – Best meal at a restaraunt: small bistro along a canal in Bruges, Belgium with the wonderful woman who is now my wife. Totally great for the setting, the experience, and the food (which was amazing). Finished with the best chocolate mousse I’ve ever tasted.

Best meal that’s home cooked (which is the overall best): Beach condo during vacation, fresh tomatoes off the vine and great mozzarella baked into a fantastic tomato tart enjoyed with my family.

Question of the Day: I come from a very, very big Greek family so I have had many amazing meals when the family comes over for the holidays(and I know how much Gary loves the family “togetherness”). We pull out some lambs on the spit. Steaks on the grill, souvlakia, salads etc…I love the family get-togethers. One of the best mixtures – food, family, and wine.

I’d also like to recommend trying some Greek Wines.

  • Scott Finney

QOTD: Strip Steak with grilled asparagus at a restaurant in Jackson Hole, WY. Forget the name, but it was at the Four Seasons Resort. Most amazing steak I have ever had. Wish I could remember the wine I was drinking, but it was few years ago. Oh well.

Great episode Gary, I will have to keep my eyes peeled for the St. Jean.

  • Without a doubt the best meal that I ever had was at Fogòn St-Julien in Paris while traveling with my then girlfriend and now wife, when we became engaged. It was a Spanish restaurant that basically served tapas and paella–we order the tapas. The menu just said that we would receive 7 (or so) tapas, without any description of what was being served. We asked what the tapas were and the waiter said “whatever the chef has prepared today.” So we left everything up to the chef which resulted in the most amazing 8 individual plates that I’ve ever had–the pork belly was my favorite.

    Cheers

  • The dry-aged porterhouse and 2004 Caymus that I had after passing the NY Bar exam. The sweet taste of success!

QOTD: When my Mom and I went to Ireland, we stayed in a really nice mannor/hotel and we had a really delicious dinner there. Breakfast was pretty eh, but dinner was fantastic. I remember there was this melon sorbet that was so creamy and rich. It was great.

    Great great episode! Double great!

QOTD: My favorite meal was at my 21st birthday a couple years ago. My family and I got together at Maggiano’s Little Italy and had an amazing family style dinner of different pastas, chicken, and veal. My mother brought with a bottle of Champagne that was given to her when I was born and we popped it open and enjoyed it with my family over a lovely dinner.
