Haven't had any Valpolicella's by those wineries, I do have an '01 La Poja from Allegrini that I hear is supposed to be really good

QOTD: I think under the football is a small Oak Monster Figurine

For the competition, how about a case of the Vayniac Cab, a $500 gift Cert to Wine Library TV and a trip out to the Crush in March (or whenever it’s going to be)

  • I like the Vayniac Cabernet label design contest idea too. But…. I sorta think designing that label should be a privilege reserved for the Vayniac Cab family (the bottle buyers, the Crushpad members). Fence-sitters and WLTV lurkers who only surface for contests shouldn’t get to weigh in on such a momentous, historic development in the evolution of wine. But that’s just my $0.02. I could be wrong. I’m often wrong. In fact, I’m probably wrong about something somewhere at this very minute.

    Under the football: Vayniac Wristband

no ideas but I’m sure I’ll enter the next contest. I only recovered last week from the heartbreaking Veoh contest loss!!!! It took real courage to get back in the saddle and enter this contest. I’ll think about it and post later.

QOTD: How often are you wanting to do a contest? I think the co-hosting contest is a really great idea and you should definitely repeat it each year (at least…). If you want to go “contest-crazy” and have something almost always running, maybe you could consider inviting someone on a tour of a winery. I’m sure you could arrange it but whether you stuck with one in the US or opened it up to overseas would depend on how much work was involved (I betting quite a bit…)

G-V-N-C: Great show, Gary! I appreciate the props to those struggling with loss and I also appreciate you putting yourself on the line with the “varietal” shows. It’s a great way to help budding vino-philes expand their pallets.

  • QOTD: You should give away a unique experience to “Taste the Culture of 5,000 Years” by giving the winner a China Wine Tour experience from http://www.chinawinetours.com. Visit the cultural sites of China, and some of the wineries that will become well-known throughout the world within the next 5 to 10 years. (and there is no lead in the wine!) 😉

  • Danny C

    Congrats to Canada!

GV: Great show, I like how you roll, keeping promises, keeping things on a level playing ground! I dig it!

QOTD: Here’s the next contest…we (meaning the vayniacs) create a WLTV Mixtape. Everyone gets to send in one suggestion for a song to be placed on the mixtape. We send the song, and a reason why we think it would be appropriate. Be it about wine, about GV, about the show, about Mott, whatever. You select the best 15 tracks suggested and then those 15 peeps wine something. Or if you’d prefer, people can select all 15 songs and you pick the best mix (15 prizes might be a bit too much). I think we all need a soundtrack and this is an intereting way to bring people, music, and wine together for the big shabang! Let me know what you think either way. I got nothin’ but love!

The oak monster is under the football!!!!!
QOTD: A great prize would be a case of 2005 Bordeaux!!!!

  • Robert Howells

The next contest should be a wine blending episode where the vayniacs decide which varietals to blend together and what percentage ratio of each to add. Gary would pick the winner in a blind tasting. The winner will receive a free seminar featuring GV.

QOTD: Either a trip out to the CrushPad or 1 of every bottle of wine in the Wine Library! Contest to design the next WL schwag.

    Under the football… Knicks tix!

  • Good episode, some great values to be had with Valpolicella.

The next contest should be a stump GV in a blind tasting contest. Entrants choose 1 wine from WL, submit them to whoever will orchestrate the contest (obviously not Gary), and then that person will choose 3-5 wines that will be included in the blind tasting. Whoever’s wine stumps GV, wins. There could be multiple winners.

A solid show Gary, good job! QOTD; I have no idea, my mind is oatmeal, tough week!

  • Ah. Nice to see a Canadian take it. 🙂
Two Qotds? Football thinger guess: staple remover.
Contest idea: Flight and accom. out to the final shindig involving the Vayniac Cab?

QOTD: Discount a cellar from Washington Valley Cellars? (hehe). They were awesome.

Under the football? A mini thundercat?

  • Congrats to the winners. I’m really jealous of both! Great show, too. I keep on adding and adding and adding to my WL cart.

QOTD: 1. Paper Football. I also rocked at paper football and won 3 championships in my school. If I ever meet you, I’m challenging you, GV! That’s right, I’m dropping the gauntlet. That makes sense right? Also pencil fighting. It is on! I have a big A$$ Husky with your name all over it.

QOTD 2. Grab bag contest. Submitters have a choice of sending in pictures with your schwag, blogging about how WLTV has changed our individual wine worlds, or a 5 second clip of us saying whatever you need us to say to make some sort of montage, be it an opening bit, a closing bit, or whatever you want. All of these can help get the word out to more people and it allows you to use everyone’s material to better your show.

I know now why you have your show for 365 episodes and I don’t. I can give you a week of creativity tops!

Ok here is the winning answer for the QOTD:

The next contest is to see who can do their own thundershow (posted on youtube, whatever) Difficulty: no wine, but rather other things that are worthy of the application of a sophisticated palate.

I call dibs on cream soda. Oh you dont think cream soda can be as variegated and urbane as wine? See, you clearly NEED my submission.

Also, Im going to go with an action figure under the football, and since that probably isnt specific enough, ill go with an action figure villain.

  • orion

    Good show today.

QotD: Good contest would be a quiz of random facts including all the episodes of wltv with a limited amount of time to complete so new viewers couldn’t go back and watch them all (or maybe not, so that they can…)

QOTD: Best 100 words describing your first wine experience.

  • QOTD: The craziest wine-related experiment. People would put details of their experiments on their blogs, with links to WLTV. Examples: Peynaud’s distillation – separates tannins+acids from water+alcohol. Tasting wine under bizarre conditions – super hot. Actually I have a better idea – the craziest time/location for a wine tasting! Ex: Tasting Bordeauz at 13,000 ft! Or Tasting at night in the snow.

Under the Football: Robert Parker’s amputated million-dollar nose and palate. No seriously: a small carving of the Oak Monster.

I’m holding the first group tasting of the Princeton Tasters club tomorrow – Wish me luck!

I almost picked up a bottle of valpolicella today, I guess I should have. Congratulations to the winner of the contest, and good luck everybody in the next one (whatever that may be).

QoTD #1: I’m guessing a cork from a nice bottle of sparkling wine (play it regionally safe).

QoTD #2: It would be neat if for the next contest everybody mailed in a cork (favorite wine or otherwise) with their name on it and then Gary pulled the winner from a huge bucket of corks. Or maybe if we get enough he’d have to jump into a pit of corks, like those plastic ball pits they have at Chuck E Cheese, etc.

I agree with other posters – a new wristband is under the football.

  • QOTD: The one (and there can be only one) person who has the best forum post, best ask gary (both here and on facebook) question, friended up on all possible Web 2.0 lemming-ware sites, sends in the best intro and best fan video, able to answer by memory which episodes hold the most quotable Gary flavor profiles, and in all other ways the most gushing fan-boy (or fan-girl, we do keep it equal opportunity folks) of Gary and WLTV of all time. I’d just like to see the person explode on camera when they get to bask in Gary’s presence. 🙂

QOTD: (Football) – under the football is a fake superbowl ring for you to keep on your desk as a goal until you can buy the Jets and get a real one

QOTD: (Contest) – Photo contest with best/funniest picture with a WLTV wristband … this way you will actually get people to finally send you picture with the wristbands
