Qotd: Antrim's 1844, over 2,300 selections and I'm surprised at how low their mark ups are for a restaurant

QOTD: There is a little place in south Minneapolis called Blackbird. A great little place with a well known chef, an outstanding menu, and unique wines served with minimal markup.

GV, really interesting show to see what places are serving up and pricing at in NYC. Gives me good comparison to the market here in NC.

QOTD: My favorate place to sip/consume great, and fairly priced wine is a place called Enoteca Vin, downtown Raleigh NC. They offer a variety of wines by the glass at 1oz, 3oz, 5oz (or bottle) servings and are fairly priced. The place also serves up great food. Worth seeking out if you every make down here.

Here is their web site if you care to review the wine list and pricing

  • I live in Virginia Beach so we only have two wine bars in the area, Fire and Vine, so-so flights of wines and the WineHouse in Norfolk, interesting wines with big pours but mediocre food. No wine bars in Santa Fe where I go frequently and this is a big disappointment in a town that has such great food. In fact, few places outside of Casa Sena even have wine flights.

Interesting episode. Gary you need to get out a bit further than NYC, although as someone else commented it does provide a good price comparison, not that Little Rock AR has much choice because of the draconian alcohol laws in this state.
QOTD: Can’t answer that ’till I get home to the Barolo area and then the list is too long, not to mention I’m still discovering all the great little trattoria’s.

Best place for wine by the glass…. Repast in Atlanta! Incredible place to eat and drink.

Sella & Mosca, cannonau riserva, sardegna 03 for 12 bucks a glass, bargain any day in any city!

Perfectly selected wines but the real trick, no corkage fee on the first bottle as long as you share a glass with the chef. This guarantees the chef comes to your table and you get to meet them. Others in the restaurant will wonder who you are to rate such a greeting.

Love this place. If in Atlanta make it a must visit!

Another great show. QOTD: For me, it is Fleming’s, you can find them in most big cities and they usually have a great by the glass selection, especially big reds that pair well with a tasty piece of cow. Also a local Italian place here serves a wonderful Chianti by the glass for about $4. Definitely not that straw basket crap and a step up from Ruffino and DaVinci.

  • GVNC, love that you’re getting out and experiencing the non-virtual world! Nice show. “Back to back Nebs,” what the hell is that?

QOTD: Favorite restaurant to drink wine in…I’m going to have to go with two, one west coast and one east coast. On the westside it would be the Waterfront Seafood Grill; amazing wine list, fantastic food, and great atmosphere. On the eastside it would be Park & Orchard in East Rutherford, just up the road from the Wine Library. Itâ??s like eating in a roadside diner but with one of the biggest wine lists Iâ??ve ever seen.

  • I love drinking wine (and eating…) at ‘inoteca on the Lower East Side, NYC… try the truffle egg toast with bottarga, and they almost always have a Barolo by the glass

  • QOTD-I can’t say there’s a place I like to have wine by the glass; I can’t get over the price difference compared to getting a bottle outside the restaurant. I’ll have a glass or two because I like to try different wines…and come on…I can’t NOT have a glass of wine!

I live in a dry town, the restaurants don’t serve alcohol. This is one wine world that needs some changing.

The best restaurant in the Tampa Bay area to enjoy wine is Bern’s Steak House. Hugh selection, knowledgable wait staff and proper storage all contribute to a great wine experience.

Very nice episode. I really like the theme.

QOTD: I just started going to a wine bar not too long ago. It’s called Max’s Wine Dive and is located in Houston, TX at Washington and Shepherd. It is very nice and they have a very extensive selection. It is a bit pricey so I only go once or twice a month, but it’s worth it.

Good show Gary! Thanks for continuing to help expand our wine world.
QOTD:We have a pretty good wine selection for drinking at home. Usually when we dine out my wife and I eat at BYOB’s so the wine choices are ours. Otherwise at restaurants serving wine we go with the food pairing recommendations.
