great show gary, many of your medical viewers (traditionally some of the biggest wine nuts going) will have smiled at your inadvertent “back to back nebs” joke – “nurse give this asthmatic back to back nebs!” “will the 2002 do doctor?”

QOTD Andrew Edmunds in Soho London – great and varying selection at almost cost price including half bottles – excellent for trying a bigger variety of wines during a meal. And of course the legendary Arches Wine Bar in Swiss Cottage.

Questions related to this episode – vacuum sealing and wine by the glass effective? Especially with larger selections and hence slower turnover especially at the top end. What about these closed systems that allow a vast array of fine wine by the glass – Wonder Bar at Selfridges serves Chateaux Petrus by the glass! Good or Gimmick?

It was very interesting to see another wine professional’s technique – the sniff, the taste, how he aerates the wine and chews it rather than doing the GV “bird sounds” and his spitting form.

QOTD: Can’t afford restaurants, but there’s a great BYO place nearbye: the Blue Point Grill, that has great seafood. Best meal: Small Gully The Formula ’03 with mussels in white wine sauce and a tuna steak. Wine glasses are terrible, though. Next time I’m bringing my own.

QOTD: Sportsman’s. It’s a great wine shop and restaurant here in AZ. They have awesome salads and sandwiches, and a lovely selection of wines by the glass, of course there’s also the option of pulling a bottle out of the store and having them pop it right there for you to drink.

QOTD: I gotta go with my current place of work: TASCA WINE BAR in Los Angeles. Fantastic by-the-glass selection (including 3-4 additional daily specials), decent bottle selection, and great old-world comfort food presented in both small and large plates. QotD: Posted this on the forums. My favorite currently is a local restaurant called Prime 15 in Ringwood, NJ. The food is only so-so [steak house, steak is okay, ribs are good, everything else is meh], and the service stinks [but no OMG we’re leaving bad]… but the wine list is surprisingly decent and VERY reasonably priced, in some cases below market.

QotD: My favorite restaurant to drink wine at is (1) my favorite restaurant — Le Voltaire in Omaha — and (2) they let me bring my own wine, so I get the best of food and I’m not limited to any place’s wine list.

great episode. there’s a great new place in New Brunswick with a fabulous wine list & tapas menu – Daryl Wine Bar (www.darylwinebar.com). they do 2, 4, and 6 ounce glasses of wine, and if you really like something they also have a shop attached and you can buy the bottles at retail price. awesome.

QOTD: Unless it’s a special occasion I usually don’t order wine at restaurants (mainly because I know how ridiculous the markup is). But I have enjoyed the wine list at The Grape in Dallas on more than one occasion, so due to my limited experiences I will say that one.

QOTD: How can there be any answer other than Bern’s Steakhouse in Tampa.

QOTD: Mosaic in downtown DEEEETROIT! I haven’t really been to a whole lot of ‘wine’ restaurants… mostly just decent restaurants that serve wine. 95% of my wine is consumed at home or at friend’s houses.

btw, once had a cab by the glass at…some Italian joint, I had to ask what it was…turns out it was a Mondavi, but the waiter couldn’t tell me if it was the $5 Mondavi, the regular cab, the reserve or the Oakville? best glass I ever had from a restuarant though without ordering a bottle.

QOTD: In NYC, probably Gramercy Tavern. Also Del Posto. And in the dirty JERZ, Roots in Summit is pretty decent. They even have a few WINTAGE ports by the glass.

QOTD: There was this bar in San Diego I went to one time that only sold wine. It was amazing. There were like 8 of us and like 8 different bottles of wine. I was black out drunk 2 hours later but what a great time.

I think I heard the place has since closed. Bummer.
