Qotd: Antrim's 1844, over 2,300 selections and I'm surprised at how low their mark ups are for a restaurant

QOTD: I would have to say either Babbo…or Otto!

    TRU!

  • Large Format Fever

The best place to drink wine in Chicago is Tango Sur… BYOB…. I get to drink rockin’ wines without the 300% mark up…

  • JFvandamme

So I would love to know who imports the wines!?

Very cool Gary. I like the whole tasting bars theme and it seems like Shelly’s was a great place to start.

The viewer video was cool too (keep them at the end, that’s where they’re best).

QOTD: By a long shot it’s Raval on Upper King in Charleston, SC. Every Tuesday they have three flights, sparkling, white, and red. They give generous pours and the ambiance is nice (thought I hear it gets packed on the weekends). It’s a small place with a regular set of staff who know a lot about the wine.

QOTD: We live in Santa Barbara and the Wine Cask Intermezzo (little bar off the main restaurant) has great offerings by the glass.

  • great ep. i want great wine though by the glass and i have to admit that high acidity but inferior wine isn’t cool. why does wine by the glass have to be simply food wine or stylish. However it was great to hear the philosophy behind the choices.

    QOD: DEL FRISCOS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Any restaurant I’ve been to with a good wine list has turned me off with the silly price mark-ups. What are they smoking?

Hey GV- this seems like an awesome week coming up! Although I have to say I’m glad I don’t pay NYC prices!!! As Lewis Black said, “Even with the plane ticket, it’s cheaper for me to drink all weekend here [Madison, WI] than to drink in NY.”

QOTD: I like the lists at Icon Tapas Bar and at Brasserie V in Madison. Although I have to say, we have the same distributors and I see the markup from what it costs at my wine shop and it makes me very very sad!

  • QOTD: The restaurant where my fiance proposed called Classic Italian Pizza. Its a nice little Mom and Pop Italian place and I love to go there and have a glass of wine by the brick pizza oven. Great place, great wine and great memories.

  • The best so far: Aloque, a little wine bar and cafe in Madrid. The barkeep was really nice, the tapas was amazingly good, and the wine-by-the-glass list was excellent and affordable for a student on a budget!

Love Babbo’s Piedmont selection, but for price and variety, gotta go with Catalan in Houston.

Great show. Making me excited for my trip into th city this weekend.

QOTD: Galleria Umberto (Boston) spend an afternoon eating the best 80cent Sicilian-style slice you can imagine and 75cent Dixie glass of “house red”

  • cool episode…i wish more restaurants starting making more thoughtful by-the-glass lists…
always a gamble at how long the bottles are open too…

    QOTD: SLIMS http://slimsrestaurant.com/ in Cincinnati
byob, superb food, communal table, fun and loud.

Great show Gary! These shows are a great change of pace from the Table.

QOTD: As much as I love wine, I rarely order it in a restaurant. “By the glass” prices always seem outrageous to me. I usually drink wine only during company dinners (my boss and co-workers are great at picking the wines).
