A local grocer had it for $7 too, so you can’t beat that. I’ll be at a wedding though so I’ll drink whatever they’re pouring.

    QOTD: ’96 Barolo

QOTD: For New Years i would love to have a 1995 Sassicaia, and the top off the night with a 1963 Burmester Port. And to Bring in the New Year a simple bottle of Prosecco Because by that time i dont need anymore wine in me. I would be crossed eyed. lol

  • Characterlost

Loving the NYC tour, you going to hit up any places a bit more casual???? one of the reasons i love your show is because you have stayed far away from the whole snob factor, i hate to call it out but theres a little creeping in from the guests in nyc. Love the show, i’ll be so sad if it ever ends?

QOTD. i would love to be drinking some Champagne, maybe a vinatage one too, but i’ll have to settle for CA bubbley, cheap and pretty good and able to make me smile

Killer question….I’d have to say that if I could drink anything on New Years Eve….here are my answers.

    Bubbly: 1976 Dom Perignon
    White: 1976 Chateau d’Yquem
    Red: 1976 Penfold’s Grange

Gotta keep things going with the Birthyear in effect!

We really enjoyed this show…the wine by the glass in NYC theme…Thanks.

QOTD: Wow,…Carl really likes dry sparkling wines and I don’t. We will probably have to have more than one. Actually, Carl would like Havana Club Seven (not wine and we can’t get that here, either) and I would like a really delicious Zinfandel. You don’t have to drink sparkling wine…right?

  • Hey… my favorite pinot is very dark and murky… don’t tell me I’m supposed to send something like that BACK! Or else I’ll change the wine world WITHOUT YOU!!!!! 😉
Quit it; when you get around people in suits, you get all elitist. Me no like.

  • AlisonD

    That was fun….

QOTD: Some really good champagne…..you choose….

  • QOTD: If I can spend this New Year Eve with my wife, maybe the answer will be some Bourgogne Pinot as she doesn’t really enjoy those classic, big-arm, vegetal old world ones, and I don’t really wanna think some white wines for the night, as it is charming nad refreshing but not really romantic for me…Pinot can be a nice bridge between girls and boys…Otherwise, maybe some awesome Italia wine for myself this time.

BTW, William opened up quite a bit after some drink and looked much better then. Okay, keep on moving, NYC wine tour for the week~:)

  • QOTD: Something dark, red, murky and unfiltered and fruit bomb-y!!! Something I haven’t ever had to ring in the New Year. Something that will blow my mind!

  • QOTD: You know this will be my first New Years even drinking wine or champagne. I don’t even know yet! I better start thinking of something now. Great question, it got the wheels rolling.

Great episodes the past couple days. I’m enjoying the interaction.

QOTD: Hmmm. I’ll be in Mexico, so wine might not be high on the list on alcoholic drinks that night. However, in an ideal situation, either a 96 Vieux Telegraphe CNP or a 97 Barolo of some sort.

Gotta say Im not digging these restaurant shows so far. The prices are obscene, as in … literally cause me to be disgusted. You go on about the color of your pinot, but what you SHOULD be railing on is the absurd markups on the wines these hair-slicked-back soms are pushing. If you want people to go out and try new things, if you want to change the wine world, you should start with the BS we are bearing witness to this week. I do notice you giving them a little grief about the crazy-stupid prices, but I question whether or not you should be promoting these establishments at all.

25 dollars a glass for a 30 dollar bottle of wine!

Okay, I’m going to lay off William (sigh, well not much) except for these two words: blow dryer. (And if you’re going buttondown-retro, then go buttondown, it’s classic).

GV–thanks again for showing us what we might be stepping into. Nice to see the inside of the Carlylse here cuz I don’t think I’ll see it any other way, thank you.

QOTD: that Krystalllll nonsense, but somebody’ll have to buy it for me. Don’t think I ever will.

  • Wiley Reilly

QOTD – Start with a little Pommeray POP, then after midnight…1985 Warre’s Vintage port. Do I like sweet? On New Years I guess I do. Cheers!!

  • Soooo much better than last night. It must be because the sommelier and I share the same first name and that hairdo from years ago! Great stuff but I still can’t get over spending $24-$30 for an 80pt glass of wine when I can get an entree at a nice restaurant in DC for the same bones!

QOTD: Looks like I will begin the evening at The Blue Duck in Georgetown (www.blueducktavern.com/gallery/blueduck/home.html) with a rose Champagne and then a glass of the ’03 Opus One.

P.S. Since you featured The Carlyle on tonight’s episode, please sell it correctly ^^^^. I guess “Not Available” is a good thing so far?

QOTD: I got to be honest, I hadn’t really thought about. Usually its some Sam Adams and German Heff. BUT, now that the question has been posedâ?¦ time to think longer than Bill did to come up with a question.

$25 for a glass of wine? That’s my upper limit for a bottle, and I rarely hit that. NYC is a crazy place. QOTD: whatever’s in the house; it’ll be red.
