Gary, thanks for the holiday wishes, for all the great virtual tastings this year, for draining my wallet with your fine wines, for the widget love. It’s been a great year, and 2008 is going to rock even harder on the radoolishious richter scale.

BTW, there’s a wine bar in Culver City (part of LA) called Bottle Rock. They have wine bins on the walls, sorted by varietal. The merlot section is called “F’ing Merlot.” I thought that was a cute way of dealing with The Movie.

I love Merlot but good Merlot (Pride, Paloma, Havens come to mind), and I find in general it is much more difficult to find good Merlot (Especially California) than it is good Cab. I have had many bad Merlots (very one dimensional, dull fruit, no finish) than I have bad cabs so I tend to steer clear of trying many. This is especially true in the value wines (under $25)

QOTD – Hanging with the Kids (Wife is out playing Mahjongg), We did some painting in our life journels(check out suziblutube.com) if you want to learn about life (art) journals. It can be a very therapeutic and fulfilling experience.

QotD: Right now, as I’m writing this… I’m sorting through some year-end groceries that I’ve done. I’ve picked up my first White Zinfandel wine and a Merlot (my current fave), so I’m excited to try them out.

I’m thinking of splurging this holiday season on myself and picking up an actual Spanish Albariño from a wine store in Manhattan… lemme see if I can find a Black Pig.

By the way, a “Mott — LINK it UP!” shirt would be cool, but it’d need to reference an episode where you’ve put the poor guy through so much work! Which episode of WLTV has had THE most links? If none come to mind, we gotta change that quick!

link it up mott t’s wouold be awesome. Tonight I’m hanging with my fiance at my folks’ house, and we’re ordering in. Coming back tonight night to the ‘rents, too, for a birthday dinner. It’s family week, GV style!

I’m skipping wine tonight and drinking a bloody mary.

QOTD: I am going to do NOTHING tonight but sit in my recliner, watch TV with my wife while sharing a bottle of Alice White Lexia while eating canalop and honey dew millon.

qotd: finishing this 2000 preston reserve cabernet that i picked a case of for 20 bucks a bot… let me tell u people that washington has great gems if u can find them… this wine is a a piece of work… its thick, smooth, very well balanced acidity to flavor ratio… and its good from beginning to end.

keep it up gary… by the way bills much better then the new jersey jets this year

QOTD: Looking at Christmas lights!!

Perhaps people should consider themselves fortunate that they have merlot as a blending grape and stop trying to make it the star of the show. Not that that is impossible. And I don’t want to squelch anyone’s lifelong ambition. But I like blends best.
QOTD: I’m making appetizers (caponata and Mexican souffle) for a progressive dinner a couple of girlfriends and I have every Christmas. I’m thinking of going for a white Christmas and serving Albarino for appetizers and Prosecco for the main dish (I’m helping out with the wines).

Please do the Mott shirts … I’ll definitely buy some. I do enjoy Merlot on occasion, but have not had any in awhile. (Just because I’ve been trying NEW things).

QOTD: Just finished dinner (short rib stew) with a nice 2002 Eckert Estate Malbec. Good combo.
