QOTD: yes and yes, I’ve had quite a few. I live a 20 min. drive from the german border, so they’re easy to get and not very expensive! Dr. Loosen riesling from the Mosel area is a favorite of mine.

  • I loved that shocking little move you did at the end…but would have loved it twice as much if you hadn’t spit out that 92-point delicious reisling!

    🙂

QoTD: I am actually not positive that I have had a German reisling. I know I have been served several different reislings in the past, but I only just recently started really taking notice of labels, vintners, vintages, etc. So, I guess I can’t answer definitively on either score.

How about that last gratuitous swish and spit? GV walkin’ the edge, AS ALWAYS.

QOTD: Nope and nope. Can’t remember everything I’ve drunk, for obvious reasons. Guess I need a little German sweetness in my winelife.

In case you missed it, the PIRATES dogged the Cowboys 41-38 Sunday night. Aloha, boyz! Aaaaarrrrrrgghh!! q;^)

  • Robin C

Were you talking more than usual? I’m sure no one faulted you for it.
QOTD: I haven’t had many rieslings. I find them too sweet, including Eroica. But we love Dr Loosen Kabinett Mosel-Saar-Ruwer and are sitting on a coule of 2002s. We just bought an Alsacian riesling – Zind-Humbrecht Gueberschwhier 2005 that we tried at a wine tasting and liked a lot.

QOTD: Jawohl und natuerlich on the Riesling question. We were stationed in Germany three times, once in the Nahe region and spent weekends up and down the Rhein hanging out in the narrow streets of Ruedesheim, eating Zwiebelkuchen in Bacharach and stayed in the most lovely Gasthaus in Assmannshausen. Could not recommend German Rieslings more, lovely or should I say, einfach herrlich!

Good hodge podge G-Man. I had real high hopes for the Tour Carnet, I was really hoping it was another under the radar Haut Medoc steal.

QOTD: Of freakin’ course!!! Recent highlight (well about a year ago actually)a vertical tasting of J.J. Prum (mostly spatlese, auslese)from 1997 to 2004. Awesome, just so thoroughly complex and interesting. The older stuff became so rich, and actually picked up alot of weight. Love the German riesling, love it.

Love German Riesling. I started to get into them on my trip to Germany. I visited some great vineyards on the Mosel. Beautiful place!

First, thanks for the thoughts on the 2003 vintage in bordeaux. I’ve been buying equal amounts of ’03 and ’04s lately, but I’ll probably switch to more ’04s now.

    QOTD:
    Yes and yes.
I’ve had terrible german reislings at every holiday with my german grandparents who apparently only know their terrible german reislings. However, I’ve also had some very solid beerenauslese. Although, a few months ago I had a ’72 that was way past its prime, took a few sips then dumped the rest down the drain. Now that I think about it, I’ve had very few decent german reislings: they’ve been either outstanding or terrible.

QOTD: Of course I’ve had more than two German Rieslings not only that but I’ve probably have had more than 10. Nice producers to me are Joh. Jos. Prüm, Domdenchant Werner, Dr. Thanisch and Dr. Bürkling Wolf.
I’m amped up to see some more German Rieslings on the show.

QOTD: Yes and yes. My only complaint is that they are too easy to drink and go so quickly.

I have had more than two rieslings in my life, but am happy to be learning more about white wines. My daughter-in-law has allergic reactions to reds, so I am wanting to find many options to offer her when she visits, which she does often. I am also interested in more unique food pairings with whites, like the steak on yesterday’s show. Thank you for the show!

QOTD: Yes, and Yes. Most memorable German producer, Muller Catour (spelling). Had a roomate in college, family from Germany, introduced me to some great German wines. Hey, also. Finger Lakes region of New York, Dr Konstentein Frank, heavy German influence and some decent reislings up yonder. You should do a selection of New York Finger Lakes Reisling tastings.
    Many to choose from.

Hey, whats the deal on the Mott Link it Up tee shirt. I sense you are bustin some balls here. We know you are going do give the Mott his just deserts and give us the much demanded T-shirt. What gives G-man. Also, what about the New Years Eve, secret champagne sampler?

QOTD: Yes! I am down with Deutschland. That’s actually where I had my first glass of wine, though it was a Spatburgunder. I’ve probably had 10-12 German Rieslings, and I liked them. A lot.

QOTD: I tasted Riesling for the first time on Christmas, but it wasn’t German- it was one of the big commercial brands but I can’t remember which. Anyway, it tasted good enough that I’ll try a real one sometime soon.

No “Mott link it up” tee? Wha?

QTOD: Will not be answered due to the “No Mott Tshirts comment”. 🙁

There is still hope…A WL Hoodie with a cartoon cloud containing the words….MOTT! Link it up! just above the WL URL. 🙂

I totally look foward to GV’s outlook on wine in ’08, and now the food is coming. Gee, that just opens all the doors…interesting to see how he integrates it with the wines. Hrmm.

    HNY all!

qotd – yes, yes. i think riesling is the best white varietal in a league all its own. i go red 80-90% of the time, but if i had to choose one wine red or white for eternity, it just might be riesling.

if you had asked has anyone ever had 2 german rieslings they were not happy drinking, i wouldn’t expect many yes answers to that.

qotd: yes… and yes. i’ve tried 5 or 6 maybe… i don’t remamber most of them because they were not really great not as complex as i expected. but i do remember one, which was Langwerth Von Simmern Erbacher Marcobrunn Riesling Spatlese 2003.

Another good show. Riesling represent! My fiancee drank riesling exclusively for quite a while. Now she’s discovered moscato and is usually torn between the two. I lived off of riesling and gruener weltliner in Austria. They can be some pretty versatile wines.

  • Grape Expectations

QOTD: I’m not sure. I’ve been drinking wine for so many years that I’m sure I must have had German riesling at some point. I know I’ve had Alsatian and Washington (love Chateau Ste. Michelle Eroica!). But, lacking proof to the contrary, I guess I have to answer no and no.

We have had a few German Reislings including Spatlese, Auslese, and Eiswein. We have also had German Scheurebe which is also excellent. I believe it is a cross between Reisling and Silvaner.

  • Mr.Ambassador

Nice eclectic mix of wines today.

QOTD – I’ve had more than 2 German Rieslings. For the price I was really pleased with the Dr. Loosen Riesling purchased through Wine Library. I first became aware of Loosen through his cooperative efforts with the Chateau San Michelle Winery here in Washington State (the “Eroica” and Ice Wine).
