The great thing about everyday wine is that it’s cheap. Why would you pigeon yourself to one grape or label? If it’s cheap, it should be cheap to have a varietal. I’d hate to let this one loose, but we love the Dr. Loosen L Riesling. It’s the best damn deal I’ve found in a really really really really really long time. Goes so well with a ton of different food and it’s 7.99. Other than that, I buy Ercavio, Kenwood Pinot Noir, and Pillar box.

I was happy to see Excelsior Cabernet on the program today – that is a nice sub-$10 wine that a lot of restaurants have on their list and for very good reason in my opinion. However, I was a little upset to see you pan it as you did. I agree with you that good values can be found in the Rhone, and in the South of France, but, a cab at this price, with the texture and flavor profile that it provides at this price… I don’t know how you can do anything but sing its praises. I am a lurker! But this is my coming out party!!! I am Wine Surfer – hear me roar! I plan to comment on your shows from now on so be prepared for some “thunder”. BTW, thanx for the wristband – I do appreciate it.

QOTD: I don’t have any “everyday” wine because I am fortunate enough to have a substantial stock on hand. If I had to pick a “default” wine, it would probably be a Spanish red wine since I have a large number of them that I like that roll in under $20 a bottle.

I don’t have a go to wine. I have been drinking every 2005 Bordeaux I can find up to 30 bones lately. For the most part, you are right about the QPR. Good Juice!!! Usually I just try different wines as much as possible.

QOTD: I don´t keep a lot of wine at home, but I do drink wine often at bars and usually ask for a Ribera del Duero. Pinna Fidelis is widely available here and easy to drink.

When I was in the US, El Coto (Rioja) was an inexpensive tempranillo that I enjoyed quite often.

QOTD: My go to wine(s) is usually a Rhone varietal blend. I’m partial to Grenach/Syrah/Mourvedre blends (such as the Whistler Black Piper GSM you turned me on to, or Mas de Guiot Grenache/Syrah).
