Gary you’ve got to be kidding about North Carolina.
You need to bring a party to Seattle, you keep extolling the virtues of Washington wines. You have allot of fans in the Pacific Northwest and would probably bring people from Portland and Vancouver, Canada.

QOD- I don’t have a specific wine I go to, nor a specific varietal. I like to try many different ones, so I always scout out good values, and if I find some that I like, I stock up on them.

I don’t have an everyday wine because I’m doing what the man says and trying a different bottle every time. I’m in ATL but could possibly make the drive to NC.

  • mikey lennon

QOTD: Still experimenting with wine and since I cannot afford more than 10 dollars a bottle everyday, I do not have an everyday wine yet.

but someday I will when im rich and knowledgeable.

Another good show. Maybe wines under $8 are best left to making good sauce.
Very glad to hear you will be at the Boston Wine Expo, but could not find a reference anywhere to either you (without the k) or to Wine Library. Can you help out here??
QOTD: Since I drink reds and the wife drinks whites, there isn’t any daily go to wine, although the Riondo Prosecco you mention back in the Fall has been a favorite of ours. We still have a case left and it seems to satisfy both of us regardless of food pairing.

Come to NC! The fall is beautiful in the mountains where I live; lots of up and coming wineries and Vayniacs from Atlanta to Knoxville to Roanoke are all within striking distance.

Gary, I am looking forward to meeting you in NC. For all you Vayniacs, I created a link in the WLTV Meets forum to express interest in Gary visiting North Carolina.

  • GottaGoDrink

Oh, BTW you promised to come back to Chicago this year. We have it on tape. Do I have to send Francis to NJ to get you?? Get back out here!

    please

Great episode Gary. Not sure I have a go to wine right now. I know that if it were up to the wife it is always going to be a Riesling. I am really into trying new wines each time I open a bottle.

You are 100% right that you can get great wines cheap, but unfortunately you can also be easily discouraged due to the number of bad wines you will drink to find a good one. I always make it a habit when I go the store to buy 2 bottle of “cheaper” wine to try, and if I like them I go back and buy 1 or 2 more bottle of each to try at a later time.

  • pforty

oh yeah, already a WLTV fan on Facebook, is that radool or what??

Yay for the less than $10 explorations! This episode illustrates once again why I trust you–not that I’ll necessarily buy what you recommend, but I trust you to report honestly what you taste and think. It says a lot to me that you’re willing to criticize a wine that’s been a big seller for your store. I’m going to look for the Cartlidge & Browne. It sounds like a winner.

QOTD: Would you believe Bear’s Lair California Cabernet, $4.00 at Trader Joe’s? It’s not the most balanced or refined wine, maybe 83-84 points on my totally subjective personal scale, but it’s got good flavors and a little tannin, and for casual drinking it works just fine.

Good show. QOTD: Can’t get enough of sparkling wines of late, trying all different kinds of cavas and proseccos. Bubblies aren’t just for special occasions but for every day. I love prosecco with olives, artichokes, salami, bread, peppers. Mangia.

GV, it’s NC bay-bee!! I sound like Dickie V!! Where is he?!? Out for surgery!! On his larynx-y!! Crap, nothing rhymes with larynx.

Seriously, come on down to the Old North State. Biltmore House would be a cool place to tour/discuss. Grandest chateau ever built in USA, and largest personal residence if I remember my stats. Give me notice, though, cause it’s a 7 hour drive from my place on the coast.

QOTD: Go-to wine changes with the seasons for me … pendulous full bodied cabs and Bordeaux blends in the winter, perky and tempting pino grigios and chablis in the spring, big bouncy viogniers in the summer, and perfectly proportioned pinot noirs in the fall.

What was that you were saying about wines with weight? Do you have a copy of The Who’s ‘Meaty Beaty Big and Bouncy’ by chance? Love ya – mean it!

  • Robin C

We’ve liked Cartlidge and Browne too, but haven’t had the Cab.

QOTD: We don’t have a house wine. My husband is in the wine/liquor business and brings home lots of wines. I get to choose.

QOTD: By type, I’d give it to Tempranillo or Garnacha (Las Rocas is always a value, and a solid bottle). By label, I roll with Sebastiani’s merlot for a good Tuesday night sipper bargain.
