qotd: I gotta go w day boat sea scallops, w raw oysters a close 2nd when it comes to mollusc's and lobster or crab when it comes to crustaceans. But that's a really tough question since I love all shellfish.

Love Madiran, haven't had the one by Laplace, but I have had their Pacherenc du Vic-Bilh Sec

Where have you BEEN?! Check that. Where have I been? What a sweet discovery the day Mark Morford (SF Gate) pointed me in your direction! and #148 is a classic among classics. Thanks for getting out there and encouraging all to channel our inner Vay.

Awesome show, I am a novice to the wine life and I had a question. I am old fashion in that I do not have a myspace or facebook, so I am going to paste my question here in hopes of either you (Gary) or someone else will post some recommendations. I wanted to know if you are familiar with the world of Kosher Wines, if so what bottles would you consider to have a unique taste. Thanks for the help and I apologize if this has been covered in a previous show. Once again, I find your show both fascinating and entertaining.

QOTD- Scallops, love the scallops. Got to have them cooked though. I had a scallop the last time my wife and I went out for sushi that almost made me loose the meal. Oysters on the half shell are a very close second- those I prefer raw accompanied by a Chablis.

    Great episode today Gary!

Thanks for the show mang.

  • Just recently discovered your AWESOME video’s! I absolutely LOVE this show, the love, the passion, the wines…. everything!
I am fairly new to wines. Drank a lot of them already, but never paid too much attention. Your show sparked the interest and now I buy pairs of wines to taste them myself. Thanks to you GV!

QOTD: Gamba’s or Scampi! Don’t know if it counts, but I absolutely adore Escargots (snails)

Even though I sometimes feel the shaky buzzing of some kind of once dormant but oyster-awakened nervous system disorder the day after eating them, I still prefer oysters over any shellfish; East Coast, home-shucked, small to medium sized, with a tiny squirt of lemon, chewed a few or many times (remember, you’re eating, not fellating it).

Mussels mariniere would be a close second. A big bowl of them with an outrageously priced baguette makes me feel quite vital and sprightly.

Nice flight of wines that you chose and all represented value. It is often difficult to locate your featured wines here in Maryland, land of the Blue Crab and archaic Blue Laws.

The three tier (producer/wholesale distributor/retailer) marketing approach of wine selling is under attack. Everyone wants to protect their own interests including the States who make big bucks selling wine/liquor/beer. The Supreme Court ruled that it was OK for a winemaker to ship directly to the consumer. The interpretation that retailers such as WLTV should also have that right is now the topic. The distributors give hefty contributions to their legislators and argue that the current system is the most efficient and what if minors were to order wine online? This is a weak argument as most shippers require an adult to sign for the wine. Smaller producers will not get shelf space vs. large scale producer/corporations. Free Gary T-Shirt?

I’m off to look for some Carm….
