Nice show, last NY wines – Bedell Merlot, 95 vintage I think. Very nice.

  • CuriousInStLouis

Gary, you always make the Gewurztraminer sound so good!!

QOTD 1: Had some of the Duboeuf Beaujolais Nouveau 2007. I found it better than the KJ Pinot but bland compared to a Chateau Lascombe that I had a few weeks ago. Had my first Sauterne. Stunning! Drank the whole 750 in about three days!

QOTD 2: New York wines? Don’t recall any. Unless you count New York “Champagne”. LOL!

QOTD: I actually had this Reisling a few months ago and I gave it an 89.
The finger lake wines are actually good and this Reisling was better
    than I expected.

QOTD 1: Yes, I expanded my palate with a Rose last weekend … and …
QOTD 2: about to go to the store to find my first NY wine for this weekend.

FedEx delivered my Official Vayniac t-shirt yesterday and I’m proudly wearing it on this LAID BACK FRIDAY!

Gary…too many Rieslings out there between the ones from Alsace, Australia, California and New York. So far the ones I have enjoyed most come from Alsace. It would be intersting to compare them side by side. QOTD#1- Wines from SW France…really good and all under $25! QOTD#2- Went to a wine shop in Greenwich Village over the holiday that only poured NY wines, tasted through many and unfortunatley enjoyed none.

Last NY wine was a 2003 Cab Sauv from La Comtesse Therese, Long Island. At 25 bones (would that be b25 / 25b?) it’s a bit expensive, but the winemaker’s father is one of my philosophy professors in college, so I snagged it for free.

Yeah! The first wine region I visited extensively (if decades ago). But no Catawba Pink? I don’t know if I’ve had any Finger Lakes wine since grad school, 20+ years ago

QOTD — I intend to get to the century varietal mark this year — was at 85 three weeks ago. Up to 90, 10 more to try, so that’s expansion!

Hey Gary – you must be reading my palate. I just finished two wines from Long Island. One was Potato Barn Rose which was not too good. The other was the Paumanok Vineyard 2001 Riesling. The Paumanok was really great. I think you’d like it too, as it had a nice funkiness to it.

QODD1 – Trying new stuff on a regular basis. Actually been getting more into Spain recently.
QOTD2 – Went to college in the Finger Lake region, so I have been to many of the wineries up there. Most recent I can remember was a Dr. Konstantin Frank Riesling that was not too bad.

    QOTD1: Yes. Hell Yes.
