  • QOTD1: Almost about every bottle I try is a first of its kind for me.
QOTD2: I think I may have tried a NY wine 2 years ago while having a vacation in the Adirondacks, but wasn’t ‘wine aware’ enough at the time to register the producer/type in my memory banks. Shall certainly seek out that Gewurtz!

  • QOTD: Yes, I have been trying all new wines…almost none of the wines I have drunk in the past 6 months have been known brands, varietals, or regions that I knew of bfore watchng this show!

  • mbannon

Oh no, you’ve caught me! I’ve NEVER had a New York wine. Sad. Will have to fix that.

Hey, what’s up with all the wine you dump?? Jerk. 😉

QOTD: If I’ve had any New York state wines it was probably over 30 yrs. ago and I honestly don’t remember.

  • QOTD1: I usually drink a different wine each time. Maybe a same producer but a different varietal.

QOTD2: …I don’t think I’ve had any from New York.

No..a New York wine is not something I generally look for. I’m still thinking about that poor deer, you brought up yesterday, covered in berries….Kind of violent for a wine tasting program.

  • Johnny C. a.k.a SmokinActuary

I am always expanding my palette.

The last NY State wine I had was a Tokay-Fruliano from the Maybrook Winery.

QOTD: Of course! I’m always trying new wines, tonight we’re going with a Langhe

QOTD2: On Wednesday I had two NYstate wines. I had the 2006 Herman Weimer Riesling, and felt pretty much the same way that you did about it, I went around 88pts if we’re keeping track. I also had a 2003 Palmer Cab Franc Reserve which I wasn’t super impressed with.

  • A nice couple of whites there, I’d happily drink either.

QOTD – The Wölffer 1998 Cabernet Franc, drank last October. Rated it 89 but I think it was past it’s peak, could have been into the 90s a couple of years ago. That was the one and only, difficult to source NY wines over here (I picked up the Wölffer on a trip to D.C.)

Q(s)OTD: Yes, recently I’ve tried my first Albarino, Torrontes, and Bonarda. It’s all for you GV. Have not, however, ever had a NY wine.

QOTD: 2002 Paumanok Asseblage LI, Bordeaux style blend. It was kick-ass great; served it blind and NOBODY pegged it as being from LI.

  • I had some Riesling from Finger Lakes and can’t remember the producer but I didn’t like it. My palate is already pretty well developed from tasting so many wines and other things over the years. I don’t have the palate of GV because so many of these things from the 80’s he describes are things maybe my kids would have eaten and I wouldn’t eat much of anything they were eating. When GV described a dear, I have to wonder if he has ever dealt with fresh killed dear. The odor is a combination of iron and crap. Not really what I want in a wine.

I’m always trying something new or looking for that exceptional bottle of wine. As far as NY wines, not impressed…it may be because the wine I had wasn’t any good or just ok to good…I give it a pass for now. Good episode…not only do we get wine-tasting with scores but fashion week! or fashion statement……….
