Never had one and the production is only 150 hectares? I’d like to learn more about this region. But the price is right with hte dollar sucking!

  • QOTD- my lack of knowledge about French wine, and French wine regions is holding me back from trying these. Based on your tasting notes though, the second one is the only one that I would really like from today’s episode.

  • QOTD – Haven’t had one. I’m being held back by finances and poor selection at liquor stores in the area. I should move somewhere closer to new jersey.

I love white burgundy, and have for a decade. The 95’s were killer good! I picked a few up last year, cellaring again. Oh yeah, thanks a lot Gary for telling everyone!

I think Gary tasted too many in that same shirt â?? marathon of tastings for us while he was awayâ?¦.

Slurring a bit on the start on the 3rd bottle and whatâ??s with the itchy itch under the shirt ? and the unbuttoned spot mid shirtâ?¦.falling apart GV down the stretch â?? hope to see you back new and fresh soon, tomorrow ? And no: “MOTT link it up”s ?

QOTD: Never even heard of St Aubin’s ….will add it to the ever growing list

    Gary,
Interesting episode…I don’t drink much white wines and when I do it’s usually in the summer. I’ve noticed you don’t mentioned if you can cellar the wine if you don’t get to it right away. In any case, I never had a St. Aubin but will try at some point…in the past, I never bought anything produced in France for personal reasons especially when you can get very good wines here…the prices on some of their wines put me off as well…QOTD..what’s holding me back….Lent, gave up drinking wine but will definitely try the last two wines from this episode.

    Great Show!!!

I have actually seen these in my local wine shop but never really mustered the courage to get one to try…mainly because the few that the shop has are in the $35-50 price point, which at the moment tends to be a bit high for a bottle of white wine now, especially when I still have 10 or 12 bottles left of random sauv blancs and pinot blancs I purchased at the end of last year.

QOTD: What am I waiting for? Once I finish off some of my hard exams coming up and have a weekend to actually relax, I will splurge a little and seek out a St. Aubin.

What am I waiting for? I’m waiting decent white burgundy -or any other chardonnay for that matter- to cost less than $15! In other words, it’ll be a few years before I buy a bottle. Especially considering the other less-concocted whites that can be had from NZ and South America for ~$10

    hey gary –

good episode! I’ve never tried one of these, but will be seeking them out in the near future. gotta save some bones to get that last bottle, but it sounded like it was well worth it.

QOTD: I’ll look out for a St. Aubin for sure. I’m hoping they’re readily available at local stores.

I will have to look for these wines. I have a lot of trouble finding chardonnay that I like at prices I’m willing to pay because I usually find them to be disgustingly over the top or too austere. These sound like a good middle ground.

    GREAT ep GV!
Man, that sure was a secret a lot of people didn’t want out! I love St-Aubin too…. The best I had was also from Hubert Lamy, but from the En Rémilly parcel… Just mind blowing! Let’s remember here that, just as GV said, this AOC is right next to the more prestigious ones of Chassagne and Puligny, but this particular parcel of En Rémilly is located right next, I mean RIGHT next to the Grand Cru of Chevalier-Montrachet that goes for well over 100 euros/bottle! Don’t miss out on these wines Vayniacs!
PS: But be careful, they’re not all good… I bought a 1er cru from an unknown producer and even in the fabulous 2005 vintage, it was nothing exceptional… Stick with the big names producer-wise…

Good evening Mr. GV. Thanks for another remember-able epsd of WLTV. Have not had any wine from St. Aubin. I have mentioned in the past that I am starting to get into whites more and more, but still have not had a Chard that my pal has agreed with. Have to wait this one out, but am looking forward to trying others like Torrontes. You made big claims that it was going to be a big upcoming wine…

    Thanks GV

QOTD: Not ready for $30-$50 St Aubins yet. Spending the wine budget on sampling a wider spectrum of under $20s first, in order to “calibrate the pal”. Actually, looking to assemble a trio of chards to sample – 1 unoaked (4 Vines Naked?), 1 butter bandit + oak monster victim, and one with the oak in balance.

I have to agree with NB_SPAZZ: I don’t have that kind of budget. I’d rather have good wine with dinner nightly than great wine once or twice a week.

  • AVP

I’ve had some St. Aubin and a few years back, I bought my mother a nice bottle of St. Aubin for Mother’s Day. Well she got mixed up with bottles and used it in a pasta sauce (fortunately not entirely, so that she did get to taste it and loved it ).. And the sauce came up delicious.

  • Hey, if the shirt’s bugging you that much, take it off. Take it all off. With Noxzema Medicated shaving cream!
Er, I’ll look out for St. Aubin white burgandy/chard ! Esp. that middle one!

great way to start out the week. love the bourgogne blanc.

QOTD. i have my little stash of white burgundy downstairs. the last few i have had has been a little to stoney for me and i wanted a little more fruit. i consider myself a rock licker but… anyhow, i have had whines from giradin, but mostly reds and they have been OK. he is a negotiant that has been on the way up. last year, had a 1999 lamy, st. aubin and it was great. it was the wine that started me on white burgs. yum. anyhow, what is stopping me is that i live in switzerland and they make boat loads of white, so they do a good job keeping a lot of other’s wine out.
ps, 2005 is a great year, and you tapped it for a sec. all of the burg guys pan the 05 whites and say that it was too hot for the whites and that 04 and 06 will bring more to the table with the tension.

  • Haven’t tried one but just ordered 3 bottles based on that great review. Sounds better than the $60 Ramey my wife makes me buy.
