Why so bummed…it’s always about quality not quantity 🙂 You ARE changing the wine world, you DO make a difference and we LOVE watching you! I know many who don’t like to leave comments for whatever reason – it takes time out of drinking wine LOL.

QOTD: Have never tried a Sautern but have a half bottle of 2003 Late Harvest Botrytis Riesling we picked up at a little winery in Washington. As it was $40 I guess someone has to die before we will drink it LOL. We heard that the best food to pair it with is a tiny marshmallow roasted on a toothpick over a candle *grin*.

What happened to gary? This sounds like his more civilized (read: boring) self from a while back, no?

QOTD: love sauternes, but cant afford them usually 🙁
Ignorance in wine is bliss- think about all those people who are happy drinking olive garden jug wine all their life. Thanks for ruining our lives gary 🙂

Great to see an episode of 3 different vintages. 2001 is hailed as a great sauterne vintage, some even say it is better than 1997. i was in sauterne this summer for a week and the wine makers liked their 03’s. i am still nervous about that vintage in general. i would love the 1990.

QOTD: love sauterne. it is not for every meal, it gets heavy. my favorite is sauterne with a carved out pear with roqcfort. it is good with the fois gras, but i kinda prefer reisling VT with it.

    Hey Gary-
Fantastic EP! Really…I love Sauternes and Blue Cheese. Take a Block, throw it in the microwave for 20 seconds, drizzle some honey on top, put some crackers and dried apricots around it….heaven.

This, in some ways, is the show at its best. Lots of great information/background on a wine that I never would have otherwise been interested in. Thanks!

I’ve never had one, but now hope to get to try one.

Can’t say I’ve had a Sauternes before. I’ve been kind of avoiding dessert wines for no real good reason. I’ll have to pick one up this weekend.

  • I am a fan, it is a great wine once in a while…it is pricey to drink regularly like you mentioned. My last desert wine was Baumard Coteaux Du Layon Clos Ste. Catherine which I picked up after watching the show you did on it.

No apology necessary, you have every right to be upset…#412 was a big day and a great show.
If you make a bumper sticker, have Calvin Hobbs piss on “Lurkers”

    Gary,

This is my first comment left mostly due to your mood on da Thunder show today…

First off, thanks for taking the time to produce such a high-quality, fun, entertaining show. You have build a loyal army of lurkers who watch, enjoy, but remain silent (slowly we seem to step up one at a time… and make a comment or two)

I’m embarrassed to say that I was a Georges Duboeuf Beaujolais drinker before meeting up with the VaynerNation of WLTV.. While in Spain this summer, I was able to talk almost as if I knew what I was talking about as we were served wonderful, inexpensive wines made along the Costa Brava. Feeling that I needed to “Branch out” recently French wines have been on my table, and I have you to thank.

This thanksgiving, my family and I enjoyed a wine assortment of wines. For several, it was the first time tasting an Alberino which was the hit with the meal. You, sir, were there in sprit.

Just so you know this isn’t a proposal for marriage 😉 I’ll also “blame” you for the steady stream of benji’s out of my wallet, into the wine community! That said, it’s a good trade.

Take care, go SPURS (do you wanna borrow a Tim Duncan Bobble-head for your desk sometime ??!) and Thanks!

    Richard

  • QOTD: Not a huge fan of Sauternes, but I do love a great icewine (eiswein), especially from Konzelmann, who’s Vidal Icewine was one of my favorite wines from last year.

  • I am leaving a comment cause i just dont like the label of being a “lurker”…lol. GV, your still the best wine show on the internet. I have a feeling you’ll be getting your own TV show very soon. Mark this prediction.

Holy Crap! Somebody run me a warm bath and hand me the razor blade. Not only is it cold, cloudy and damp outside but, GV’s mood may very well have put me over the edge 😉 Dude, snap out of it….QOTD, Never have I had a Sautern…. come to think of it, I think I’ll quit drinking wine all together…. it just ain’t fun anymore… ho hum

    #1 Lurker in the hizzi.

Gary, get over it. You got more lurkers than posters. I love the show, but don’t comment. Your mood today inspired me to post, because it sucked. Keep that up and I won’t watch anymore. Anyone can taste and comment, but you need to keep the Vayniac spirit alive. That’s why we watch.

QOTD: I’ve never tasted a Sauternes before. I would never buy a desert wine at that price point. I rather get a Cali or Chile Cab any day. I have never liked desert.

  • Aw, poor Gary 🙁 I hate to see you down in the dumps. Nothing a bottle or three of wine and a couple of good cheeses can’t cure, though, right?

QOTD: I have never had a Sauterne, since I don’t roll that deep. In general, I haven’t been a huge fan of the dessert wines that I have tried because I don’t like very sweet wine, but I hope I get an opportunity to try some more in the future (because my mantra is: trynewthingstrynewthingtrynewthings…)

QOTD: Sauternes are not at the top of my list, but I probably would enjoy them more with a little bleu cheese, or maybe even that steak-dessert wine combo, several back episodes ago.

    Prefer the thunder…

Talk about taking the wind out of your sails-tomorrow is another day, fear not. I’m not a big fan of sweet wine, sort of cloying but will give it another try. Looking forward to Third Thursday clubs.

I have a fair amount of Sauternes in my basement, but somehow Mrs. Sassodoro and I seldom end up drinking it. At the end of a meal we have generally had enough wine and aren’t looking for more. We’ll just have to find other occasions.

Too bad about not making 1000 comments. Still, the site is showing 780 at the moment and that is not to be sneezed at.

Dad bought Sauternes long ago. The kids grew up enjoying these jewels. Looking through the cellar the other day I came across a ’71 D’yquem. The last of a case!
PS: Mott, found a ’64 Tokai 5 Putonos.
