Nice to see an episode where a pinot actually tastes great. I have had so many overpriced so so ones lately that I am to the point where I have stopped buying them. Curse you Sideways, but the bargin merlot was nice for a while.

QOTD: 2000 Royal Tokaji nectar of the gods!

Last wine that knocked me out was 1999 Dom. Pegeau. AS a matter o’ fact I had it last Sunday, and I am still knocked out by it.

QOTD – Last wine that did that for me was the 2001 Pegasus Bay Prima Donna Pinot Noir that I had with a lunch at the winery near Christchurch, NZ. My first proof that South Island NZ Pinot could be amazing.

BTW – Just ordered a half case of the Phillips Hill Pinot current release of what you reviewed on here. It’s been a while since I bought a California PN, I’ve been disappointed by them too many times in the past. Usually too much $$$, not enough thunder.

  • Roro

QOTD: 2001 Montes Folly Syrah. I didn’t think I even liked Syrah before I tasted this. Bought a few 04’s of this, not the same but still great!

Pinot Noir almost qualifies as desert wine for me, I don’t go there.

Great show haven’t drank pinot in a while and would love to get on the mailing list for phillips hill.
QOTD Probably the 04 Dominus one of the best wines i’ve ever had!

  • QOTD: The Artesa 2003 Cab – http://corkd.com/wine/view/41383 – Had it at my cousin’s restaurant, paired with the surf and turf. Awesome experience. We ordered a second bottle, it was that perfect.

QOTD: The last wine to really surprise me at all was one I thought would be horrible when I picked it up at the shop. Mattie’s Perch 2006 White Shiraz. It was pretty AC, but it had a familiar juice box flavor off in the distance which was kind of fun. Tasted of strawberries and a bit of pepper, and something else I couldn’t name. All in all enjoyable for the $4 bottle, but not great in any sense of the word.

I had a Rhone at a restaurant recently that I seriously enjoyed. Don’t recall the name, but it was totally silky and delicious. I think it was my first experience with Rhone (other than Rhone style from cali) and I want to buy every one that I see now!

Great show…haven’t ever had a wine that made me react that way. I hope that I do one day.

  • Great EP.
I´m going to an Cali. Pinot Noir tasting in two weeks here in Sweden. I think that new world Pinot Noir with a couple of years in bottle are some of the most food friendly red wines, of all. The world of food is using more and more sugar and sweet tastes, the new world fruit is necessary.

QotD : Tasted three great modern wines from Spain yesterday that really blew me away, 04 Pintia from Toro, 03 Clos de l’Obac from Priorat and Petalos Mencia from Bierzo…

Its time to do a Bierzo episode Gary…

QOTD: Pappapietro Perry Pommard Clones Russian River Vallay Pinot Noir. Yummy. On another front I was lucky to find 2005 Carronne St. Gemme Haut Medoc for $13.00 that was unbelieveable at the price point. Bought a case.

love the pinot episode. i guess burgundy and oregon are too easy. pinot grows in strange little pockets.
QOTD: it was a 2002, gevrey chabertin, la tradition by denis bachelet. still closely kept to the chest but boy did have some potential.

I just ordered 2 bottles direct to try.

About 5 years ago I had some “j” Chardoney that was outstanding. Definately a white for a red drinker.

    Thanks

  • Love the head to heads! I think you just flooded the winery e-mail, I picked a bottle of each…they had another available from mendocino also. Anyway chalk one up for USA, battle royal wine olympics.

QOTD: The last wine that made me act that way was a 2006 De Lisio Australian Grenache also a $40…square that off with a spanish or a Rhone.

    Oh oh…
I watched today’s episode and thought “Oh Boy, I have to buy the Pinot from CA”. I jumped on their site, placed the order and then found out it was the ’06 vintage, not the ’05 reviewed today. Oh well, maybe it will be just as good.
QOTD: A Medusa Old Vin Zin that was just super after dinner.

  • Johan

Thank’s for a great episode, I’ve got to find that one.
QOD, either 2002 Richebourg Dom. A_F Gros or, 2004 Donnafugata Ben Ryé Passito de Pantelleria.
The last one actually made me cry.
Nice to see you again Gary.
