    Welcome back…

QOTD – I had a red from Croatia – something my brother-in-law picked up. I couldn’t read the label since it as written in the cyrillic alphabet.

    Crios Malbec–thunder and lightning

  • Well I tried to buy the secret wine pack. I’m pretty sure you can ship to Michigan now. But I only base that on the fact that I’ve gotten wine through the mail many times. I’m not sure if winelibrary plays by a different set of rules.

  • Gp

Gary, if you are gonna ditch scores and rely on tasting notes, it would be interesting if you had your own “scoring” beyond tasting notes. Change the wine world completely. Thunderous, Solid, Meh, and Pazzz might be good scores to assign. Not that it matters to me, none of the wines that you have are available here, darn LCBO.

QOTD: Rene Mure 2006 Gewurtztraminer – Score: Solid

  • Hall

QOTD: 2004 Dehesa de Rubiales “Alaia” Prieto Picudo (Spanish). And, while doing some racking today, some of my own 2007 chenin blanc. It’s coming right along.

QOTD: Had Tortollini soup yesterday and paired it with a Balthasar Kess Hattenheimer Schutzenhaus 2005 Reisling. Very very nice.

qotd: domaine les hautes noelles: muscadet cotes de grandlieu = serious thunder, serious value.

  • QOTD: White Zinfandel from Franzia (box). Gary V… You need to do some boxed wine. Let’s have a wine in a box day!

QOTD; 2006 Alamos Malbec, A good fruity quaff, but no thunder, had it with corned beef, a so so match.

QOTD: Peachy Canyon Old School House Zin 2003. It’s bringing some thunder, but at 30 US bones it’s far from inexpensive. Took a break from my search for values under $12 to get something my girlfriend was interested in. Solid bottle of wine, but probably not changing my life.

QOTD cont’d: Trevor Jones Jonesy Aged Tawny Port. Boggles my mind how something aged an average of 46 years that can be enjoyed night after night after night can roll in under 9 bones (paid $8.79). This brings me some serious thunder for the money. These prices cannot be a long term outcome in my estimation…

QOTD- Vacationing in BC Canada by way of Hawaii. Visited Okanagan Spirits, left with Old Italian Prune (plum) brandy & Taboo Absinthe. Arrowleaf Cellars, small-extremely knowledgeable, friendly and great QPR. Gray Monk Estate Winery, excellent Odyssey Pinot Gris and yummy NV Odyssey III Port. Mt. Boucherie, friendly staff and great QPR. Lastly, Quail’s Gate Estate Winery, my favorites were: 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon, 2004 Family Reserve Merlot, and 2006 Botrytis Affected Optima. MY FAVORITE- 2006 Botrytis Affected Optima, have had great Sauternes. No mistaking this is not one, VERY DIFFERENT (LIGHTER-CRISPER) BUT STILL GREAT FOR WHAT IT IS (DRINK NOW)!
Thunder Idea – Gary, do a show on wines of this area!!!

  • spyder47

WB Gary. Boy, so much pent up energy! You could probably pay for a good portion of the WL electric bill if you could channel that energy.

QOTD: Tonight I had a ’05 Clos LaChance Syrah that was quite nice.

Welcome back Gary, its good to see you.

QOTD: Cantina Zaccagnini, Montepulciano d’Abruzzo (and we drank it with you.) It brought the Thunder.

    Cheers.

I think it brought the thunder because of the moment! We had a great meal with lamb chops and great cheese, and the wine was able to hold up no matter what. I think that is exactly what we needed tonight!

Welcome back to the thunder show Gary!

  • SOO good to have you back GV.
I was beginning to suffer from WWS (WLTV Withdrawal Syndrome).
QOTD: 2006 Can Blau from Montsant. Although a different blend, it tastes similar to your description of the Partal. At $15 it’s a good deal.

  • The last wine I had was a Castle Rock 06 Mendocino Pinot Noir, and at 12 U.S. Bones, I rocked. Beautiful rose petal, pure, delicate cherry, raspberry, all up in your grill piece, with a nice bright finish that goes on for days. Well not for days, but long.

OK, GV. Miss Vivian is distraught about her lack of wristbands. She feels that since she contributed to a couple of episodes that she deserves a wristband, even though she will have to grow into it. She is continuing to expand her pal. You’ll be pleased to know that Miss Vivian is jazzed about PICKLES!!! We gave her a slice of a good dill pickle and we couldn’t pry it out of her little fists, she loved the taste of it so much!

QOTD 2006 Mud House Sauvignon Blanc ; not bad, but not up to the Mahi standard.

Oh I forgot, GO BULLDOGS! I’m a Drake alum! I’m so pumped for my Bulldogs I can hardly stand it!
