  • Yes. I do think that is weird.

I also have to mention that the sound of the wine glass on the undressed table was kind of annoying. And also I appreciated when Gary corrected himself after starting to say, “People who are more serious about wine.”

    QotD: At home. Unfortunately.

Magnificent episode! I love the secret box tasting concept! I had the 2-bottle box and found that my tasting notes (done in advance of viewing the show) were rather similar to your own notes, however I thought the Le Muscle also had a lackluster finish (too bitter, but that’s just my pal).

QOTD: I love hanging-out with my friends at Sakura Café on 5th avenue in Park Slope, Brooklyn. Not the place for vino, but lots of excellent sakes!

Peeked and watched this before opening up the wines. I can’t wait now. Wife, daughter (5 yrs old) and I are tasting the two-pack on Friday evening. I’ll make sure we have some cheese for the last one. More comments to follow after the tasting.

I got the two pack. You called it. When I opened the package and saw the gimmicky label on the Muscle wine and right away thought to myself ‘gimmicky label,This wine is going to kinda suck’, but I was wrong. The Muscle wine was the more enjoyable of the two. I didn’t quite get the cassis. I got a kind of compost pile/farm smell from it and a taste that followed through on that. It was pretty good. The Fitou had a tight nose at first (I only opened it for 1/2 hour before trying it), but it had a some what berry smell after a while. A decent taste but a pretty bitter (tannic?) taste on the back end.
    Fun show

QOTD: my local cafe in Berkeley, ballroom dancing.

Hey Gary, this episode kicked some serious ass, and I can’t believe the twenty minutes flew by so quickly… I try to introduce at least one newbie to your show everyday because you know your shiz. Anywho, I was considering the e-mail, but 2600 seems a bit steep for any sane attempt. I will continue begging my father for a plane ticket which will fly me directly to the wine library. I expect another part in the saga tomarrow!

QOTD: Usually I hang on college grounds and my work. I’m too busy. You can find me in St. Louis

First-time poster, long-time viewer. Absolutely adore the show; always feel the urge to watch an episode or two immediately after getting off work. Such a relaxing and intellectually gratifying experience. Raised in Montville, NJ…represent(!).

QOTD: browsing Total Wine (St. Johns Town Center; Jacksonville, FL), or kicking back in the comfort of my apartment, usually enjoying a glass of cider (ep #424!) and a film.

    Gary,
I 1-upped you on Le Musclé. Solid 92. This wine brought some serious BACON FAT for me. Also nice black cherry/prune juice throughout. Great nose, great body, great finish.
I 1-downed you on the Fitou. 88 points. I did not get as much off the nose. Some nice red cherries in the body. A little chocolate on the finish. This was good, but basic. Got out the goat cheese, which helped. Give the cheese a 90.
    Great episode.

  • Long time lurker but I had to comment on today episode. Relatively new wine drinker (3-4 years)who started out really liking new world wine, I am starting to enjoy the old world wines. I really like the Le Muscle Cotes De Roussillon since it gave me a good in between type of wine. I love the big mouth feel and then the hit of raspberries. If it is good now, I guess I need to get another one to see how it is in 5 years or so. Good call Gary on this one. Can’t wait for the next secret pack.

QOTD I used to hang at a wine bar by my house but that closed down 🙁 so for now I just hang at my house or at a friend’s house. How about you Gary? where do you hang out?

Great episode. Loved the insight into what defect in a girl turns you on. A very good analogy about wine too. No one can truely love total perfection. I love a girl with glasses. Tina Fey call me! Great insight about people and wine!

I like to hang at home with family and friends, at friends homes, or on the boat with friends and or family. Hey there is a theme here!

Hey Gary – great episode. I bought both packs and so far have only tasted the Domaine Bertrand-berge Ancestral – thought it was great – would definitely buy more of it. Can’t wait to taste the other two wines with my mom when she comes up from FL for a visit this weekend.
Your show is the best thing on the internet – please keep it up!

QOTD: as soon as it stops bieng so gloomy…outside is where I hang out!!
Thanks for the great show Gary, I got the one pack- At first I was a little worried about the oak monster (seemed to really be coming through for me, I have really been diggin the really clean, acidic white Bordeaux lately), but it began to seduce me with its complexity after a little while… Thanks!
    Adam J
P.S.- very cool for me to get to taste a Jeffery Davies selection,I recently watched the episode(s) with him.

The Secret Packs 1 and 2 were great to sniffy snif and drink! We didn’t spit it out! The neighbors are convinced they are now fans – in fact, one neighbor said he would buy the next secret packs and host us over if I brought my laptop, and projector/speakers. smile. wow! The white was simply to die for – we are having it with fish tonight.

Love to hang out in the woods behind our house.

Long time lurker first time poster and secret pack taster.

Loved the wines! We tasted each on our own first to establish what we thought was coming through on the nose and palate. Then we watched you and did the “Sniffy Sniff” and gave it a “whirl” along with you. Very informative to compare our notes to yours. We are still fairly new to wine and loved the opportunity to try these French selections and further develop our wine knowledge.

Thanks! Love your show!! Go HUSKERS!!!

  • At my age, pretty much all over the place!
White Graves wines have been on my table for 30+ years. I’m not a big fan of drinking them by themselves but with food great. Shrimp and garlic are great with these wines and even a lighter cassoulet is good with white Graves. My favorite is Carbonnieux when I’m feeling flush. There have been some years that weren’t so good. Keep up the south of France wines. The more of these I can find the happier I am.
