QOTD: YES!! Both my wife and I love it and did a Sav. Blanc battle of our own back when you were doing the other battles-(I guess you inspired us). Right now, we are both really digging white bordeaux. I know not always pure sav.blanc but the magic between sav.blanc and semillon is also very inspiring.
Thanks for the battle! Safe travels!

  • Nobody likes kissing their sister.

QOTD: Sauvignon blanc, by far, is my favorite white. I tend to go all over the globe when buying so I can’t pin down any one winery.

QOTD: Its simple, its fruity, and its delicious. Monkey Bay Sav. Blanc is a winner in my book. Its also relatively cheap (under $10). IF YOU LIKE GRAPEFRUIT JUICE GET MONKEY BAY SAV. BLANC!

    PS I LOVE ONIONS!!!

  • ja.cobb

Visited the Hanna winery in Sonoma last summer and was really impressed. Hanna is my go-to SB for an easy-drinking warm weather wine. Hell, it reminds me of summer during the doldrums of winter.

I have 2 Sav Blancs in my cellar and have had 3-4 in the past year. I like to keep on hand when it is the best food pairing, but generally, I pick a Pinot Grigio before a Blanc.

I like the head to head shows. It teaches us about varietals, differences between wine regions and more.

Anytime you are teaching, I’m learning. Thanks Gary! Safe travels.

  • Like Sauvingon Blanc and my current favorite is Merry Edwards from Sonoma.

I’ll have to look up my faves, but I can tell you, the Mahi you reviewed recently is certainly up there. Also, EQ from Argentina is pretty rockin. My secret fave is: Simi. It’s a very fruity and creamy SB. I know that goes against the grain, but it suits my pal; I generally like a little weight to my vinos.

    Love the head-to-heads, btw.

    Safe travels.

  • Yes, the “head-to-head” is a fun format!

I’m waiting patiently for another blind tasting — that’s where you really prove that you indeed know quite a bit about wine!

QOTD: Sauvignon Blanc is the varietal that got me drinking white wines in the first place, and now whites have a permanent place in my “cellar,” so that’s a good thing! I just dug out a bottle of the Sunday Mountain MArlborough S.B. that I bought from WL probably a year ago … hard to believe it only cost $8 and is this damned good!

    Thanks GeeVee

  • John Farrin

QOTD: Ditto with Hector on the 2006 Kim Crawford. Also like Ferrari-Carano Fume Blanc that seems pretty consistent from year to year.
