QOTD – Nothing nerd worthy, Quivira Sauvignon blanc. I like it.

Had a really good Sauvigon Blanc from Gary Farrell recently
They have a beautiful winery in Sonoma overlooking the Russian River!

  • Neil

As a member of the ABC club, Sauvignon Blanc is definitely my go-to white. I tried the Hanna recently and agree with GV’s opinion. On the other hand nobody should try Beringer Napa Valley Sauvignon Blanc – EVER! I’d try the Spy Valley if I ever came across it however New Zealand SB’s tend to display too much grapefruit rind for my palate. Sancerre definitely rocks as well.

Great episode GV…love the head to head format although I’m not into Sauvignon Blanc…the weather has to be a lot more warmer…but the QOTD: Last summer Rochioli…good but I prefer red wines more.

    Have fun in your travels!

QOTD. I haven’t been a huge fan of Sauvignon Blanc, at least not lately. So many white wines bring the citrus — lemon and grapefruit, grapefruit and lemon, sometimes some lime. I want something else, peachy petrol, apricot, bitter almond, figs, pine cones. So I have been gravitating toward grapes like Riesling, Viognier, Chenin Blanc, Tocai Friuliano, Fiano, Greco, stuff like that. Sure, they can bring a citrus component too, but they have the other elements. When I’m in the mood for lemon washed over slate, I go for Sardinian Vermentino.

  • I have not tried a Sauvigon Blanc yet, but I will be soon. I’m putting together a small order over at the WL.

Safe travels, GV. I love these head to head match ups, I learn a lot this way.

  • QOTD: Gary, you’re hitting my soft spot with Sauvignon Blanc. I adore Sancerre, really like Australia/New Zealand, and even enjoy California. I’ve recently enjoyed some Merry Edwards here at home and the Charles Krug is always a “go-to” for me.

Kim Crawford….. don’t really drink that much of the SB.. but have liked this vintage after vintage. I know, I know,,, I’ll try and search out some other areas,, but for now I’m sticking w/ the Kimmy C.

I too really love the SB. I think it’s my palate’s favorite white varietal so far. The one I’ve liked best is Whitehaven from New Zealand, which is also the most expensive I’ve tried, and the most cat-pee intensive.

  • I love Battle Royales and this was a good one since I’ve had both. I would have given the edge to the “Spy” but they are close so a “draw” is ok you wuss. Take a stand!

QOTD: My fav SB at this time? It has to be one of those ripped-up-vine-wineries called Emmolo from CA. Love the stuff though I have a softness in my heart for Cloudy Bay and Cape Mentelle since they were the first to turn me on to the SB.

    Big “Fresh” Hug to all,
    SB

P.S. Be safe in your travels.

I should drink more Sauvignon Blanc. Last one was from north Chile – like unusually north – above Casablanca. To tell the truth, i was disappointed but it’s just one wine. Erm… That’s the subject exhausted for me.

Gary, I used to be a huge fan of Sauvignon Blancs but have gravitated more towards chards and viogniers during the past few years. I used to adore the Cakebread SB’s. My all time favorite SB was made by Caymus (sadly no longer produced). Lately I have been enjoying unoaked chards such as the A to Z from Oregon. Maybe you could do an “unoaked” show and include the A to Z!!! Cheers

QOTD: I loved one called Panama Hill by Patricia Green that drinks like a chenin and hits with 16.3%, but I don’t think that it can qualify as an S B, so I will go with the Sineann Marlborough for a classic style.

    QOTD

    2006 Kim Crawford Sauvignon Blanc.

    The Scene:

Late afternoon sunshine streaming down, little breezy-breeze gently caressing the body. Adirondack chair, feet propped up on the planter filled with impatiens, a pot of rosemary growing nearby. The kitty cat snoozing in the warmth of the sun reflecting off the wall. Sniffy-sniff, Sippy-sipp. Ahhhhh….
A moment in time with unforgettable wine.

    Virtual Hug.
