Hey, remember when you totally dissed the Hanna last time you tasted it on the show? As it, literally glared at the bottle after tasting it?
At my work, the Hanna is what all the cute grannies enjoy. For me, I love the SB, but I like the more strongly flavored spectrum of things, whether it be mineral or fruit. For example, the opposite of Cakebread, which has no personality whatsoever.

Yo… I said sippy-sip at Basilico’s and my table cracked up. Did you hear me?! lol 😀 Just polished of a bottle of the Dorado from Portugal. I really get into this wine!

Great show!!! I’m down with the battle, coool.

I am not a huge fan of grassy Sauvignon Blanc, so a lot of the New Zealand and California SBs leave me cold. I like Sancere. Although it’s suffered in recent years, Dry Creek Fume Blanc was my ‘house white’ for at least a decade. White Bordeaux, blended with Semillon, can be attractive, but are usually not that interesting, unfortunately. Chateau St. Jean made a nice fume blanc several years ago, but it has not been worth drinking for the past few years. Mondavi fume blancs were also good through the mid-1980s, but have not been on my ‘gotta try’ list since 1992 or so.

I love SB and only fell in love with it because of WLTV. My favorite was the Sunday Mountain. A great QPR! I should have gotten cases of it while it was available.

GV -CHALLENGE – Find the Vayniacs a great QPR for this summer. In house or future – it doesn’t matter. Do this for us and the love will flow.

Gary- nice show, gives me something else to try out. I like the fact that these two are priced right for me!

QOTD: I’m actually drinking a Sierra Nevada Pale right now, but as far as SB goes, I can’t get over how well the Kim Crawford ’06 hits my palate in all of the right places. The ’07 isn’t nearly as good, IMHO, but there are plenty of places still selling the ’06.

Such a satisfying varietal for so many occasions and yet so few really love it-as compared to Chardonnay. So right G-Money.

QOTD: Love the Sauv! Schiopetto is big time, and I really like the twang of Allen Scott Sauv. Blanc

Ok, I’m officially coming out of lurker land now that I’ve watched all episodes from the beginning and am caught up to the present. Thanks Gary for all the education and fun at the same time. I’ve started with whites and would like to try most of them before venturing my palate into reds. Sauvignon Blancs are definitely my favorite. I love red grapefruit, so the Pomelo 2006 Sauvignon Blanc is tasty, and inexpensive at under 10 bones. Gary what is your favorite (or top 3) inexpensive Sauvignon Blancs?

  • Gary,
Been lurking hard for a couple of months and had the distinct pleasure of also being in an airplane today for 7 hours. Mine is a pleasure trip and while on the plane I watched 4 episodes of WLTV. Again and again I’m astounded by your energy and enthusiasm. You make great points in your 120 second bits too.
So you want comments. There you go. And all from a Boston guy who roots for these local teams.

You’re at the forefront of something real special. It’s real fun to watch.

    peace,
    -j.

  • QOTD: I’ve actually never had a Sauvignon Blanc…got it on the list though

I’m pyched about the parady contest. I think I have a pretty good idea. We’ll see if it plays out.

Not drinking a lot of it lately, but I feel much the same as you re: CA Sauvignon Blanc. I will say though that the few that I have enjoyed from CA are from the Russian River area, and even rank into my all-time favorites. Definitely check out the Merry Edwards Sauv Blanc and the Matanzas Creek as well (where she used to be the winemaker). I think they’re delicious, and the Merry Edwards is near-sublime.

QOTD:Right now I’m drinking a Paul Newman Cab–it tastes exactly like his grape juice except it’s supposed to be wine…..at least some of the proceeds go to charity. My new favorite Sauvignon Blanc is the Mahi from New Zealand.

  • Had Jerricho Cotchery on my fantasy team last season…and what a WORTHLESS draft pick he turned out to be.

Also..while its nice to have Mott zoom in for a little longer…there is a PAUSE button people!

Honestly, anything from NZ is good with me. Stone Paddock is the most recent from there that I have tried, and its pretty darn good.
