QOTD: Yep. Love the Blanc. Kim Crawford and Nobilo– big fan of New Zealand.

  • GV – They both win! QOTD – SBs are so bright and food friendly – everybody should love them. Perfect for winter and summer as well. HUIA from NZ is killing it for me now – QPR.

Good show…I like the idea of comparing two from different regions. I love NZ SB but they give me wicked heart burn. SB from Sancerre is a little easier to take for me. I just ordered the 07’Salvard Unique SB from the Loire for much less than Sancerre..anxious to see how it taste for $12 bones 🙂

I am drinking and liking the 2006 Sauvignon Republic Cellars SB right now…very good and a great value at $13. The Mulderbosch has been my staple for the past few months but I like the Republic a little better.

QTD: Although I recall you giving a Murphy-Goode SB a pass, I’ve enjoyed it very much over the years. Several vintages have had the good mouthfeel and fruit you mentioned in today’s head-to-head match-up, but the Murphy-Goode is a bit woody –which I actually enjoy in small doses.

Really like the head to head comparison. Keep up the great work.
QOTD: Yep, love SB, havent had any for a while but its about time to get back into a SB moment. One I have enjoyed that has blown Cloudy Bay away for half the price or less is also from NZ. Bedford Road.

personally am now very sick of the NZ SV’s; they all seem to taste like sugary grapefruit bombs (of course not all of them, it just seems that way lately).
the French do sav blanc so much better; whether it be from the Loire or Bordeaux; they are beautifully done and fun to drink with or without food.
Chile seems to be following along these lines rather than NZ style as well; an area to watch for!
    thanks for the great show!

Killer show as always. Head to Head debauchery and carnage is always celebrated.

QOTD – Cloudy Bay (New Zealand) when my wallet can support it (which is sad to say, not all that often) or a Kim Crawford (New Zealand). Either one is best sans food and straight up.

Great show Gary. I love NZ Sauvignon Blancs. One of my favorites is Drylands but the 2007 Nobilo for $10 at my local retailer is hard to beat for the price.

Has NOONE had Dagueneau? I find it hard to believe that with all this talk of Sauv Blanc no one is even mentioning him. I know these wines can be hard to come by and expensive to purchase, but if we’re talking about our favorites that shouldn’t be a hinderance.

    Where’s the Dagueneau love?

  • QOTD: Haven’t had SB lately, since this time of year I don’t eat a lot of “light” foods, but I would love a tropical trip right about now!!!!

Ah! So “acidic” mean “fresh”. I did not know that. SBs, 90% of them, are acid water that smell of dirty sox. I just don’t “get” them, ditto wines from Alsace.

QOTD: SB is kinda my “go to” wine lately. Sancerre for special events NZ for everyday. Which one?… I’d have to say Nobilo, but not the Icon, just the ‘regular.’ Grassy, herbaceous nose, like all NZ SBs. White grapefruit with just a nod to cat pee on the pal. Ya can’t go wrong for 7 bones, and something the CKCs should be able to find anywhere.
