QOTD- Drank a sparking vouvray in 11-06, and a still chenin blanc last summer on a hot day in an outdoor restaurant in NYC. Neither one knocked my socks off, but worth a try, and will try again because the palate is always changing and two tastes does not an opinion make.

QOTD: My friend’s homemade chenin blanc from California fruit.

  • QOTD: Haven’t had one yet. Will definitely add it to my list of things to try!

Again, Gary, love the episode. QOD: Since I’ve been much more into red wines over the last few years, I can’t remember the last time I’ve had a chenin blanc…DARNZO!!!!

QOTD: My last Chenin Blanc was the Dry Creek GV had today. I thought it was good for a California Chenin Blanc, but my wife took a pazz.

My QOTD back at GV: Why get excited about a South African Chenin Blanc that tastes like comparably priced New Zealand Sauvignon Blancs? Don’t see how that’s expanding one’s palate if the two wouldn’t be that distinguishable in a blind tasting. Guess I’m missing something, but I wouldn’t be intrigued by Diet Coke tasting a lot like Diet Pepsi, eventhough the cans look different.
(Maybe the answer is in the book!)

Had the Montlouis Sec, Clef de Sol, Domaine La Grange Tiphaine, 2006 at Craftbar in New York. It ROCKED. Why don’t I ever think to buy Chenin Blanc?

Gotta experience the Vinum Africa Chenin Blanc from South Africa. It’s like butter! I give it a 92+

  • Chris

How many people do you think understood that Chris Sabo reference. Didn’t he get caught corking his bat? He did rock the old school prescription goggles though.

The last one? I was a old vines chenin blanc from California, St. Helena, 40+ year old vines. I loved the flavors in the wine, melon and apples.

Crongrats on the new book. I probably won’t buy it because it sounds too similar to your show. I’d rather just watch your free show online. I would buy a book written about your travels around the world though. It seems like you go on a trip every week. I’d be interested in reading about where you travel to and what kind of wine you taste there.

Appreciated the Chris Sabo reference. I remember seeing him in spring training a couple weeks before he became the surprise opening day 3rd baseman for the Reds and remarking that with his RecSpecs he looked like a dorky Jr. High gym teacher. But he was good enough to become and All Star.

  • RnD

Hmm, chenin blanc…. chenin blanc. Wow, its been years. Too many years. But, I’ll keep my eyes out for the next bottle.

GV, congrats on the new book coming out. I see how the sales are going, if it needs a boost, I’ll buy a couple. Keep up the good work though…love the show.

    I learned a lot from today’s episode.

So about 20 minutes ago I was wondering why I was feeling so blah, until I realized it was because I hadn’t yet watched WLTV today. 🙂

The last Chenin Blanc I had was in the late 70’s. There were so many coming out of California then. It was a great summer wine, floral and fruity when some residual sugar. I remember many days at the beach, in the early evening, relaxing with a good, and mind you, cheap Chenin. We even have a winery near here (Cilurzo in Temecula, CA) where the owner named his daughter, Chenin. Funny eh? He used to make a fantastic Syrah, black and inky, with incredible body. Looks like Chenin Blancs are still at a great price point. Really enjoyed the show because it brought back some great memories. I may even go out and get a bottle>smiles
