Gary- What song is that I hear??????

  • Sassodoro

QOTD. Don’t drink a lot of white Burg. When I feel like spending that kind of money on wine, I’m usually pulled in a different direction. I do have some Chablis, Saint Aubin, and Saint Veran in the cellar, though.

Gary you are just full of surprises. I’m reading Men’s Health Magazine, and I see you on page 74 of the May 2008 issue.

    Great Episode.
I love White Burgundy, but I don’t drink much any more because of the prices.
The best white wine I have ever tasted was a 1964 Louis Jadot Chevalier Montrachet that was given to me by a friend when I graduated college in 83.
It was an incredible wine and it was hard to believe that it was 20 years old.

  • As I mentioned to GV today, check out the new tagline for this upcoming Will Smith movie, Hancock. “He is saving the world whether we like it or not.” Hmmmmm… Sounds familiar? http://hancockwashere.com/

QTOD: Verget Meursault Tete de Cuvee ’05. I have yet to spend 70 to 80 smakeroos on a white wine.

Too bad these wines cost so much. I guess won’t be trying them any time soon. Got to say, though, you made these burgundies seem really interesting. Nice tasting notes!

QOTD: No white burgs at home right now. These are a bit spendy for me. I tend to look for reasonably priced Macon wines in the $10 – $20 range. Some meh’s, but some QPRs to be found as well I think.

I was going to buy the Fontaine Gagnard Chassagne Montrachet but it is $120.06 in Canada. I would have to skip a mortgage payment for a sniffy snif.

  • I haven’t bought a bottle of wine in about 3 weeks! My reserve is starting to get low. I will definitely be adding some rose and whites to the shelves soon since the warm weather is hitting finally!

QOTD: Not sure, but will put it on my list!

  • Kev and Ams

QOTD: Not sure, but I’ll be ordering it from you.

A friend and I rolled deep in some 1996 Batard & Chassagnes which he got at auction for around 100 and 50 bones respectively… They really redefined what white wine could be for us.

Those wines roll in at around 300 and 150 bones now in Australia (after WET and import duty) which is as you say, OBNOXIOUS.

QOTD: My wife and I (from Adelaide, Australia) are rolling through Beaune next month for our honeymoon. I’d love to tell you I’ll be bathing daily 2005 Grand Cru Montrachet but in all honesty its gonna be 1er and villages Puligny or Chassage. Maybe some GC Chablis tho!

ps. We’ll be visiting NYC for week too and would love to pop in the store but google maps says its like a 45 minute trip 🙁

  • pawncop

I also will have my first bottle of white Burgundy. I will be researching the topic and hopefully “choose wisely”.

A very good episode and as always very helpful.

Would love to try a white burgundy but out of my budget. I only spend that much on wine once a year by trying to get a couple of Wine Spectator’s top 10 on their top 100 list. There are tons of others interesting wines for me to try that are with in my budget. Great show and thanks for telling some educational facts of white burgundy!

Never had white burgundy. Would like to give it a try, but it’s a little pricey for me. $40 for something that might be a little so-so is a little steep right now.

  • Nick R

The next one I find nearby thats ~$20 and my wine store guy can vouch its legit! I’ve been on a big sauvignon blanc kick, particularly the white Bordeaux. Those last two today sound pretty incredible….gonna need a promotion before I start drinking premiere cru!
